Years ago...maybe 25 or 26...my wife and I sailed pulled our MacGregor 21 to Charleston and sailed from Ashley Marina, out into the ocean, back in Dewees Inlet. Spent the night as IOP marina before heading back to Ashley Marina. So much fun! Thanks for sharing your journey!

    I don't know what happened but I commented a while ago and it didn't register? So here goes again and I will make it quick. I so much appreciate you both on your adventures but also your taking the time to show quick and easy alternatives to save space and have fun at the same time. Love how you both work together very smooth and quiet on video?? Notice the question marks? LOL Only kidding, again I think you both are fantastic to us folks young and old that want to be able to Sail to somewhere and your video's are so inspiring to boot! Your as good as the Gene Neill family and that says it all right there! So thanks for your inspirational video's and I love how Liz shows us the quick helps inside the midship as well! Great job you two and please keep us entertained on more adventures!

      Wow! Joseph Cadrin, Thanks so much! We were inspired by Gene Neill as well and it's quite a compliment to be considered in his rank. Your original comment appeared under the "cruising cabin" video. The captain and I like to think of our time on Seanachai as a kind of Shangri-La, usually stress free...except when it's not ; ) Wishing you all the best in your sailing adventures!

    You two are a good team. I'm sure you know your local currents well and time your sail accordingly. That would be my main concern with those intercostal wanters.... plus shoals, but with your swing keel you seem very proficient. Nice to see enjoying your Cat 22! Its a solid little boat.

    What a great video...I just turned 58 and have been motorboating all my life and my best boat was a 25' cuddy cabin, I loved it! I don't know why but I never entertained the thought of sailing. So at 58, I'm wanting to learn how to sail and purchase a weekend cruiser like the Cat 22. I have had one introductory class and am hooked. Any advice from you guys would be very appreciative. Thanks for taking the time to put this video out for all to see.

      Thanks for stopping by John. Sounds like you're in for some amazing adventures. If you choose a Catalina 22 you will find some great resources. Catalina22.org, the national association, is a great resource. Their quarterly publication, MainBrace, has a lot of good info for maintenance, etc. And Catalina Direct has OEM replacement parts and how-to videos. The captain of Seanachai has a long career on the water, but our serious sailing experience started just 6 years ago. We're learning something new every time we go aboard.

    Where do all the Catalina 22 folks purchase their Bimini Tops? The look great and provide so much shade. I notice some can not be up when sailing and that would not work for me. I really like yours. My boat is a 1985 Pop Top.

      Hi Ben, We bought our Bimini online...I think we originally heard about this through $tingy Sailor...Seamander 3 Bow Bimini Top from Amazon (3Bow 6'L x 79"-84" W x 46" H Light Grey) We have it up when we sail sometimes...Since I'm not at the helm, I can't say if it's a problem...but it's better for me as a photographer if it's down!

    Can you tell me about your bimini here... mine in the CAL is SUPER LOW and not efficient for sailing. What are the measurements of yours here? I'd like to swap mine out...
    Thank you! :)

      Hi Lance! Thanks for the kind words. Similar to the one in the 2019 video, our current bimini is 46 inches high, 6 feet long, and fits 79-84 inches wide. Purchased this year from Seamander Store on Amazon ($179). We have it attached to the jib track, so it's adjustable. Hope that helps.

    with the keel up, are you gaining any more speed? figure with less drag you might.

    • @lizmccafferty-seanachai3694
      @lizmccafferty-seanachai3694 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, the decision to raise the keel was based on a number of things, primarily the depth of the water. At the time, we were on a rising tide, flood current, near high water, and so the boat speed under outboard power was pretty much the best the boat can do (approx. 6 knots by the handheld GPS). Thanks for stopping by, Ed. I asked the captain and he said, "Short answer-no. Since I sit in the after part of the cockpit so steer I can look up past the back end of the bimini to see how everything looks at the masthead. We did shorten the bimini frame by about an inch to give the boom a little more clearance to swing without chafing."
