It varies a bit model to model but I've found them to be pretty comfortable up to around double the stated cast weight on the bait cast models. The main 3 I use for cod are the 705, 666 and 767. The 705 is perfect for 1/4-1.5oz and can do higher but starts to feel like its being pushed once you get over 2oz. The 666 isn't as nice to cast light and needs 1/2oz or more to load up on the cast nicely but can also cast heavier comfortably I'd say 1/2-2.5oz The 767 is a 1-4oz rod for me, my go to for the big topwaters like tremors, thristy paddlers etc as well as some of the mid sized swimbaits for impoundment fishign

Maybe try a single on the back of the Karen. More strength for less weight and drag..
Singles is a good idea, I'm going to try different combinations at home and see what I like best for it. Think a lighter front hook will help too
