I am not sure of the models, but I believe my father, who created the tandem tractor didn't have a lot of choices for a big and versatile tractor in the 1970s. This way, he could have a heavy tractor and two small tractors to use for various field crop tasks.
This is back when farming was work as I remember it. Too bad all the small farmers were choked out of business in the 80s.

My Grandparents were also farmers in the 1970s in NW Iowa. A different world in farming then. :)
