Also, it should be mentioned that Harry Potter is additionally problematic due to being written by a transphobe. I just wanted to use an example of something problematic about the TEXT of Potter to make it more directly comparable to the dated elements of 13 going on 30. But to be clear, trans rights are human rights.
Not going to defend this movie too hard because your criticism is valid, but I always thought of the movie as a Wizard of Oz type scenerio where everything is just a dream which makes the "omg she's 13" a bit easier to swallow. Like I'm sure you had imagined what your life would be like at 30. I know I did and I was seriously disappointed when I actually got to 30.
It's always weird to me how in movies the corporate boards always burst into applause at the protag's big idea. Like in reality it's just a few people nodding and going "mmn" while the rest plan affairs on their phones. Loved your conclusion btw
I just finished this movie, and found myself confused to Jenna's whole point of wishing to be 30 is to be Matt's love interest? If she'd actually been blamed for the company loss and taken responsibility for it, it might contain a bit of morality. But the love thing ruined it.
I watched this movie in school and it was an attractive woman acting like a 13 year old girl and the entire time I was thinking it had to be some kind of kink, it’s honestly really uncomfortable the way she’s treated like both a 30 year old and a 13 year old depending on what suits the scene more. I also heard that it was a rom com and shut down, like how do you even have a romance when it’s a 13 year old with a bunch of 30 year olds
This was playing when I was at the dentist. I sit down to see a man with his pants pulled down on the screen. I say, "Whoa, what's this?", to be lectured by the hygienist that everyone has seen and liked this movie. I would have appreciated the news even or a cartoon or just music.
I like it too. I was 13 in 1987 and I always loved how this movie nailed the fashion, look, and feel of the time. I mean yeah, it's a rom com and all that implies, but it's a fun thing to put on in the background when I'm doing stuff.
It’s fine if you don’t like the movie, but I find a lot of the criticisms made here to be superficial rather than exploring anything deep that could be possibly undermining the movie. In my personal opinion, 13 Going on 30 is one of the better rom-coms of that era, both a riot to fans of the genre while winning over viewers like myself with a interesting main protagonist that undergoes a real character arc. It definitely has its flaws (personally, I find the Matty character to be the most cliche part of the film), but it does some inventive things with its premise by putting the 80’s body swap trope in then present day. Good on you for expressing your opinion, but I have to disagree with you on this one. It’s a funny and sweet little film.
My mother said she wanted to see this movie so i downloaded it (latin american moment), it's been on a usb for three years, no one cares, i just wanted to feed the algorithm with a comment
i love it a lot, but i'm wellllll aware of some of the issues lol i was very shocked upon rewatch once i got older. but idk it was just a favorite of mine growing up which is wild cos i hated to watch any "real person" (aka live action) films as a kid also i have no idea where you came from on my home page but you're staying on my sub page now :}
this movie aged like MILK... that being said it still pokes my nostalgia bone... great video! I'm surprised this doesn't have more views! can't wait for you to blow up!
I think I was less shocked by this movie because Big came out years earlier, and was far far worse in all the ways that made you hate 13GO30. The adult female love interest in Big has sex with the little boy in Tom Hanks' body and barely reacts at all when she realizes it later. Amusingly, the kids in these 2 stories would only be about a year apart in age and in the same city. They could become friends and relate over this extremely odd, niche, shared experience lol
Lmaooo I can't believe my comment was part of prompting this So I have to be honest I haven't seen this movie for like 10 years and I was like 13 back then soooooo
So They Did Copy "Big", Huh Plus 17 Again With The Mowry Girls And Zac Efron Version, Plus I Have Seen Another Film Where Parents Became Kids Or Teenagers Again In Front Of Their Yound Children!

“Transphobe” meaning “normal person in the majority of social opinion” you mean?
About the good casting: if you see the younger actress now she looks EXACTLY like Jennifer Garner it's wild

“Why did I show you that? I didn’t have to”

Lucy's not Jenna's assistant...

Great video! I like the sentiment you shared at the end about acknowledging where there are problematic themes in the media we enjoy.
