Shearer's record of goal-scoring is tremendous and I watched him many times in his early days and later on when he adapted his game due to lack of pace. Cantona was different level. He could do everything and he had a far greater influence on his team mates than Shearer ever did. Cantona was a man who's adoration went far beyond the normal. He is the biggest influence the PL has ever had and is the biggest single reason why the PL went supersonic all around the world!!

Nah, I agree with Cantona, (along with Lineker and Shearer) in the more recent interview on the podcast The Rest is Football done in summer 2024 where he said he would score between 60-70 goals nowadays because the level of football has dropped from when they used to play. It’s now all about “keeping the ball and passing sideways 5-yards and passing it into the back of the net, or what you call tiki-taka and what I call anal-foreplay of the super-massive egos of overpaid and over-indulged man-children. Only the very very best play tiki-taka - the Messi’s, the Scholes, the Xavis of the world who mostly play non- tiki-taka andwhen they do it’s forward, fast and to the point. Not the Foden’s and Rodrhi’s of the world passing immaculately side ways. Fun fact. The Spain side of 2008-2012 had a possession of 58% on average. They won everything playing fast attacking football that included some tiki-taka but more tiki-taka than anyone else. The Spanish sides since then (until Euro 2024…) played with their @nuses 65-70% of the time/had 65-75% on average and won sod all. Only in 2024 has Spain lowered possession back to below 60% (ergo, playing more direct exciting football aka real football aka men’s football).

Shearer was so scared to join United knew he will always be 2nd to KING ERIC as he can't match therefore he chose Blackburn's money over football for 4 years & then even more money from Newcastle for a full decade.
