I would say its better to play video games in moderation for 1-2 hours or less possible 3 days week.... and being able to turn it off once your time is ups. Escapism is really good for mental health, but not when you’re obsessively doing it. Same goes for sex, weed, alcohol, partying....

I went through some serious depression from 15-19 years old. I dropped out of school at 15 to try to get my GED early and go off to community college but instead slacked off, got lazy, and stopped studying. I got addicted to video games and lost all my friends over time. I lost a lot of weight and looked almost anorexic at 6 feet 115 lbs. Also got a lot of acne and my health was shit. It got to the point where I was too scared to even leave the house. I got super comfortable at home, I got complacent, and stopped progressing in life. That's when the depression was worst - when I wasn't moving forward. I was unemployed until I hit 19 so I had no money and started feeling behind in life. I had nothing of value to myself or other people. The future looked dark and hopeless. I often thought about suicide. Then one day I got a job without really thinking about it or trying to motivate myself to get one. Like I would do in the past. Not gonna lie, that job was pretty shitty. It was at a tire shop, lots of manual labor, slightly above minimum wage. I hated the time I spent working there, but I felt super proud and motivated deep down just knowing that I was moving forward. And my depression ended. I felt like I could move forward even more by working out every day before work. And started studying for a career after work. Joe Rogan's right when he says that discipline leads to more discipline. There's no way I could've gone from suicidal depression to immediately working out, eating right, sleeping well, hold a 9-5, and study for a career, with no free time or social life. Take it one step at a time. Push your limits. It may suck in the moment, but it's deeply rewarding in the long-term.
Exercise, work opportunities, breaking old patterns, it is amazing what some of these voices (like Joe) can inspire you to do. To take control of your life as best you can and to be a good person

@kaleel clark I think some of it has to do with how people are raised and what behaviors they're exposed to. Working out for me is just kinda boring, but I like activities that have goals like martial arts. Also, I never grew up with dietary restrictions, and change something like cooking all my meals everyday is such a mental roadblock for me.
Comparing will power and self disicpline to inspiration is like comparing diesel fuel to nuclear power. I wasted a lifetime learning this the hard way.
@Rhythms Of Grace I felt I had no career path option but business school. I got a degree only to take a psychiatric test and find out that out of 500 things ...business was number 500. Number 1 was photography. At twelve years old I started taking pictures and developing them in labs on military bases all over the world. But being a photographer was a ridiculous pipe dream. I had to pursue business instead. Business school was energized by undiluted self discipline and will power and time went by very slow. I was inspired and prolific with photography and time passed by very fast. I am constantly asking myself what abberation of nature compelled me to do what I hate most?
Luck is minimized when you increase sample size by working on your craft every day. When its a 1 in 10k chance and you show up 10k hours... its much more likely.

That's not necessarily true for all things. Some of the best at what do can't teach for shit. And some of the best teachers of a thing aren't always the best at the thing.

Amazingly my family worked hard to discourage/ prevent me from doing anything. Anything. I stumbled through life totally clueless until my late thirties. Thank God I wasn't able to get pregnant.

@The Shitstorm Starter We'd be fine if they were having 2-3 kids, but it's more like 1.4-1.9, which is well below replacement. And the sad thing is, all of the intelligent women are being coerced into careers and letting all of the dumb shit welfare leeches have kids. So the birth rates of high quality women is even lower.
I just started physical therapy school yesterday so i'm using this as motivation 💪
Do "Hot ones" Joe!😲DO IT!
I've struggled with weight issues all my life, last year I was at my heaviest that I've ever been I was about 220, I was depressed going through a lot but one day I had enough I started fasting a lot lost a whole bunch of weight by fasting and playing basketball I am now at about 160 pounds, these past 3 months I've been working out everyday to tighten up my stomach and gain muscle it's been tough it hasn't been easy I honestly hate working out but I have to keep n doing it no matter how much I don't want to do it I discipline myself to work out everyday, if I can do it anyone can do it! I see my stomach getting lean I see some muscle definition in my arms chest and stomach it feels great, if anyone out there is thinking about quiting, don't! It's a struggle this is never easy, but nothing in this life that's easy is ever worth it, stay positive guys and keep fighting, God bless you guys 🙏

You have to do something that is your passion and makes a livable wage and not worry about people's opinions. I'm going to school to become a high school counselor, people laugh at my career choice but I don't care. I want to do something that I want to do so I can be happy. Being motivated and having a passion go hand and hand
I hope you become a good counselor for high schoolers. They need good people in their lives.
Mango hahaha you’re such a prick.
Learn to enjoy the uncomfortable, that was the key for me. It's just so good for mental and physical health, and when you DO in fact have those moments of comfort, it's just 100x more magical!

Puff Ball Very true, but I will say that it’s a sign of weakness because it shows that you have no self control to the point where you have to remove it. I would say its better to play video games in moderation for 1-2 hours or less possible 3 days week.... and being able to turn it off once your time is ups. Escapism is really good for mental health, but not when you’re obsessively doing it. Same goes for sex, weed, alcohol, partying....
It is so true you can listen to all the motivational stuff you want. It’s get out there and do it that matters
The more energy you have the more your boss expects you to do...the more angry and depressed you get...the more you eat and drink and get high...the more you burn out and lose hope...vicious cycle...oh, and since you're no longer giving 110% and "have a bad attitude" you get fired....then your boss whines that he can't find good help...
Or maybe your boss sees what your capable of and expects you to rise to it. Thats how you move up in the world. Dont see that as a curse, see it as the world recognising potential in you and giving you an oppurtunity to prove yourself

But if u have zero talent, never get any luck, and brought up pretty poor, don't know anybody whos willing to help....then what. Ur just existing and unfortunately that's most people, don't matter how hard ya work or what u do. Straight facts 💯
It may suck in the moment, but it's deeply rewarding in the long-term.
just do something!!! unless it's motivational speaking .don't do that.

I worked really hard in school and started from scratch and proved to myself I could push my mind. I need to work on balancing it with my body more. I'm really lacking that type of motivation.
I just started doing shodaw boxing and I been feeling good everytime I do it over again.
I agree with Joe Rogan here. But Joe Rogan caught his lucky break. He got lucky at the right time.
Luck is minimized when you increase sample size by working on your craft every day. When its a 1 in 10k chance and you show up 10k hours... its much more likely.
