I know those reviews take a lot of time, especially with the amount of detail packed into them. I'm not sure how you even have time to sleep. Greetings from Poland. I had a T7 but I bought a Tuareg 660 because I feel more about where my money went. What can I say from myself and get your attention: - great electronics that can be turned off at any time once and for all. I'm talking about ABS and TC - interesting plastic from which the side covers and the front fender are made, very flexible, difficult to break - electrical installation prepared for easy connection of the alarm, heated grips and additional lights that can be controlled from the original buttons - parts in the form of seals, bearings and other elements are cheaper than the Africa twin and very similar to the Yamaha. But they need to be ordered in advance - original mirrors are super resistant to falls - the exhaust is better thought out than on the T7 - if someone has slight problems with powering up at 4000rpm, they have to drive to the dealer and update the ECU - to prevent leakage, it is enough to tighten each screw on the sump and side engine covers. This applies to every new Italian motorcycle :) Thanks for what you do for the world of ordinary motorcyclists. Your tests are extremely reliable
Really appreciate your honesty and not glossing over the bad parts. This is why I have dropped all but one of my bike magazines, they sing the praises but rarely tell you like it really is. Keep it real Ian!

Hi Ian. I own a Tuareg for 5 months. 2500 miles on it now. Very happy with it. (I also own a 2016 1200GSA). The Tuareg feels like what a small GS should have been in my opinion. No complaints. No issues. Bought the Aprilia after a back to back test ride against the Norden 901. The Tuareg brought a bigger smile on my face than the Norden. And also despite being a lot cheaper , it did not show in quality. Added quickshifter and Heed Crashbars and skid plate. Interestingly with the more open engine protection the heat from the exhaust seems a lot less than before. All in all very happy with this bike on and off-road.
Since the suspension is fully adjustable, would love to see you doing a "suspension setup" video, where you fully set up, for aggressive and plush options.... walk through how to do it... and share your fav settings. There is very little on the web, 4 setup for this bike. Since the suspension on this bike seems to need nothing but the settings adjusted, I bet it would become the "de facto" vid for everyone needing to set up a Tuareg... but then again, you are already my de-facto on all things moto! Appreciate the excellent channel and attention to details you provide!
Hi, in Italy, where I live, this bike has been compared with the Tenere. The main difference seems to be the engine character. The CP2 has more low rpm torque that helps a lot in off-road. The Tuareg has more juice on open roads. Also it seems to be more comfortable as it comes with softer suspensions. As an Italian I am very curious to see your comments on the bike.
The CP2 has more capacity it's called a 700 after all. They both fire the same 270° crank. I would have been happier with a 600cc for cheaper road tax and better fuel economy. And smoothness. It would still have enough power for solo rides

Hi Massimo. Salve. I also live in italy. Love the bike. I think the character of the engine makes it very pleasant to ride off road. Very controlled. On the road it is a fantastic bike. Especially the right twisty roads in Abruzzo and Umbria. Also on bad surface of which we have plenty 😆🇮🇹

On pricing - you did well. Back in July I was quoted $15040 OTD at the Glendale CA area dealership. That said, shortly after, I was lucky enough to find a used Indaco Tagelmust (private sale) with 1100 miles on it. Came with Hepco Becker hard cases, engine bars, brush guards, headlight guard, additional OEM low seat and a tail rack. Taxes in I paid $13,900. This is my 5th bike after returning to riding 7 years ago and by far my favorite so far. Looking forward to your future videos further confirming my bias. Keep up the good work!

I tried to buy a Tuareg, in Norther California. Dealership wanted $15k+, charging a freight and setup fee AND then taxing both. They lost the sale. I had bought a new Beta earlier in the year and the dealer only charged the freight fee and didn't tax it. I bought an 890 Adv R instead for LESS than what that dealer wanted for a Tuareg. Anyways...Keep up the good work Big Rock!
Hello Ian! I traded my 2020 KTM 390 Adventure(22000km 75% on dirt) on a new Tuareg 660 Martian Red...just have to wait for it to arrive. Also, living in Quebec, Canada I will also have to wait until Spring 2023. Love your choice of tires. I am also immediately swapping to Motoz RallZ. Hope you also feature and comment on the accessories available(or lack thereof) for the Tuareg. I have also purchased from the dealer OEM handlebar heaters and the lower comfort seat (I am 5'6"). By next spring I should have ready to install the following: skid plate, crash bars, barkbusters, Evo footpeg kit (my right leg is 1/2" shorter than left so the adjustable height helps my lower back when standing), auxiliary lights to help spot moose at night and a side stand foot pad. I have been using the Tusk Highland X2 rackless bags on my KTM this past year and I love them so they will go on the Tuareg. Not sure which tank bag to get until I see how they fit. I like how they mounted the exaust higher up at the rear on the Tuareg. The front bash plate is a bit meh, but at least they give you something to protect the front, and you can always buy a better after market one later. The new Transalp has no protection up front as standard, and the rear muffler is mounted too low imo. Looking forward to your reviews on the Tuareg.👍
I’ve got over 9,000 miles on my red Tuareg. The only issue I’ve had is the fueling stumble. Garbo UpMap took care of that for the most part. I’ve had no weep hole issues or anything else.
Its worth mentioning that this is the only bike I know of in this mid adv market that has Cruise Control, essential for me. The only other bike is the CFMOTO 800MT but that is more street focused and a lot heavier. The direct competition T7 and the new Transalp do NOT have CC.
Other bikes with CC would be the moto guzzi V85TT and the triump tiger 800xcx, but yeah they are really skimping on simple features to not eat into their higher tier bikes
Thanks for giving the Toureg a go, you're one of the very few credible TH-camrs out there. I've riden the Toureg/T7/Desert X and the Aprilia is it at the top of the list to replace my aging XC800. Cheers 👍
Yesss I’m super excited for this. On paper the Touareg is unicorn material, but the media coverage on the bike has been minimal. The only thing I’m not too keen on are the looks of the bike. It just doesn’t have that same cool utilitarian off-road look like the T7 or the Adventure R. I’m very interested to see what the best adventure motorcycle journalist on TH-cam has to say about it.
As a Tuareg owner I'm looking forward to your thoughts and comparisons, also what mods you end up doing. I agree on price/features/availability, I "was" planning to buy a T7 and scarcity quickly killed that plan, then silly mark-ups just nailed the coffin shut. I love Italian bikes and own several, so when the Tuareg quickly became a reality for me I jumped at the chance to buy one and have not been disappointed. The dealer (Pro Italia) was very fair on the price with no mark-ups and gave me a great trade in on one of my Ducatis. Yes, Piaggio USA could stand to do a LOT better in terms of dealership network and how they treat dealers so they remain in business or continue to carry Aprilia and Moto Guzzi products. But that said, you can't get parts for a T7 either right now so..... Japanese dealerships aren't what they used to be either. They carry very little parts inventory so they have to order every dang thing. They don't even stock OEM clutch/brake levers or mirrors etc. I'm looking forward to the next episode!
Do you still have the Tuareg? It's one of my favorite dream bikes on my wish list. But the thing stopping me on the Tuareg is the horrible low gear ratios, which is a problem common to all modern adventure bikes, but perhaps even worse on the Tuareg as it screams down the road at 70mph at 5000rpms. Although I think it should be possible to reduce the back sprocket size by about 15 teeth, by having a custom CNC shop make one from scratch. I know from past experience that you can reduce the back sprocket by 30% and it makes a bike much more enjoyable to drive on actual American roads and highways where the bikes are sold.
An excellent price for what your getting.. I will be doing one for sure. I have experience with Aprilia in the past, O7 Tuono 1000 that I rode the wheels off of with no brand issues what so ever. So I have confidence in the Aprilia brand. I get parts through AF1 sent within days and have NEVER used a dealer tech.. In fact the dealer did a shitty job of setting up my Tuono back in the day So dealer network means nothing to me.. Keep up the good work.

I am starting to love the Tuareg, and I really want to see how it fares long term, especially from the point of view of a guy (you) who is going to use it for what it was designed for! Your positive comments about the bike at the rider launch with Ben makes me consider this bike as my next purchase, but here in Australia we have the same issues as you with sparse dealer networks and limited availability of spares etc. Looking forward to seeing your next video on the Tuareg! Having been in the industry years before I do have an issue with dealers. The 1250cdn and 650 cdn charged for shipping and pdi is mostly full profit ! bikes on early booking programs are shipped no charge to the dealer and the pdi setup person is usually reserved for the lowest mechanical level technician ( Newby) and takes about 2 hours MAX start to finish. Don't get ne started on the Doc fee
I find it crazy that you don't get the Rally, the World Raid or the 2023 upgrades in USAmerica but I find it even crazier than you could get a Tuareg cheaper than a T7. Here in France it's still 1k€+ more expensive than the T7 and there's no supply shortage on the T7 (because it's made here). That said, Aprilia's dealer network and retailing is on par with Yamaha's, so the Tuareg is still very competitive with the T7, considering its superior features.
I bought my 2017 Vstrom brand new for $5300 USD. Certainly no good off road, but a great touring machine and good enough on a gravel road with the right tires. Just put gas in a Vstrom....and oil the chain.

I am very happy that you have the Tuareg. I really like the way you analyse the pros and cons of the motorcycles you owne. I am looking to buy a Tuareg and I think I could sell my Husqvarna 250 tei and my KTM 1190 adv and buy an Aprilia Tuareg. But I will not sell my TRS trial motorcycle.
Going to be fun to arch this. I have an older Aprilia Mana 850 and it’s never given me any issues. Love the build quality of it and only paid like $3500 for it with 2000km on it 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Took one of these out for a ride on loose gravel as part of an Aprilia riding day launch. Didn't expect much however walked away stunned on how good this bike is. It's suprisingly good at everything and so nimble for it's size. It felt so easy to ride and handles amazingly well. Aprilia have done their homework and delivered. I currently own a 2020 KTM 690 and although I would be giving up some off road, the gap is less than I expected for this class however the on road is great. Fun, easy to live with bike provided maintenance isn't an issue.
I bought my 2021 KTM 890 slightly used (400 miles) for $11500.00 with new ax-41 tires and taller spare windscreen. I couldn't find a Norden 901 reasonably un-sold. Kinds glad I didn't. No prep, fright, or added costs except a $95 doc fee. I like Aprilia but you gotta buy parts in Texas (AF1 Racing). Good build quality but I'd rather have the HP and slightly larger dealer Network. However, I definitely buy the Tuareg 660 over the T-7 econobike.
Just paid £9515 all in for mine ($11,182 equivalent) in blue and white, with extended warranty and delivered to my door. There are some great deals to be had on these at the moment and so far I absolutely love it, except for the high beam switch which annoyingly gets flicked on when operating the clutch (think I will file the end off a little). Looking forward to seeing how you get on with the bike!
Big Rock is one of my favorite channels. Really nice the way you present it with no unnecessary music and dramatization. unfortunately most of the bikes that you review are not available or shall we say accessible here in India. But that's my bad 😊👍👍👍
Your channel is the best of all. I ride a 2013 vstrom dl650a and looking to change to better off road, while being good on the highway. The amount of dealers available and parts is not good. But seeing your videos will be a game changer for me.
… indeed - you are quite influential .. I test rode the Tuareg today in Bavaria - coming from Multistradas and GS’es, the Tuareg was a surprising fun to ride - light, nimble, good looking, too in my view - I even dared to illegally enter some forest tracks (… which I would never dare with my MTS V4), and it was pure entertainment … very tempting … but it got quite hot (even under cold autumn conditions) on its way back downtown …
The reason I love your work Ian is because you’re passionate about the segment AND you’ve ridden all the bikes. You also think like I do when evaluating a bike, and we are pretty much the same height/weight so everything you say is 100% valid for me. Keep up the great work! I’m looking forward to this series. I just dumped my T7 for a big profit (way too top heavy and the brakes suck) and am keeping my 890, but I may add a Tuareg (assuming my wife is ok with another bike).
The Tuareg is imo the bike to beat in the Middlweight ADV segment, and if I could only own one bike the Tuareg would be that bike. The T7 is a great bike if you can get one for list... but even at list it is not a clear "bang for the buck" winner over the Tuareg. Had a friend just went new bike shopping and his final choice was between the Tuareg and the Multi 950. If he'd not already had a DR650 I'd have recommended the Tuareg... but since he already has a more offroad friendly bike I recommended (and he bought) the 950. The T7 was never in the running. As for me... even though the Tuareg is a great bike, I have heavyweight ADV bikes (Multistrada and Tiger) and for offroad ADV IMO the middleweight segment is still WAY too heavy... so I built my own lightweight bike starting with a Husqvarna 701 Enduro... a hundred pounds lighter and only a few hp down on the Tuareg (but it cost me $20k to get it set up for ADV... so expensive)
Looking forward to your future videos. The Tuareg has got my attention especially since UK dealers are selling them for £9000 (About $10,700), RRP is usually £10,600. I've heard great things about them but as mentioned the reliability and service/parts are a worry. I may wait until the bike has been out for a couple of years so they can get through the teething issues or else "adventurize" a Husky 701

I have been wanting something maybe a bit more refined and advanced to the KLR, like a T700 but those are probably too tall for me and the Aprilla seems like a really good bang for the buck!
Great content as always.. I like how it has more travel and ground clearance than the T7. Maybe that will convince the riders that think the T7 is the most offroad bike in the class...

I plan on buying one in a couple of weeks. I know a lot of people don’t like the looks but I think it’s the best looking adventure bike it’s 80s feel is amazing. Only bike I think looks better is the Africa Twin. Tried installing handlebar guards on my KLX300 and my friend got the rubber so hot that now the throttle is sticking. Really hope it’s just the melted grip and no damage to the throttle.
I really looking forward to this series. Hope you talk about the Tuareg clutch. I tried it this summer and didn’t like the wire clutch. Haven’t found a aftermarket hydraulic yet, but that is a deal breaker for me if I want to buy it.
Hey Ian. Glad to see you're doing this long term review on the Tuareg 660. I've had mine for about 2 1/2 months now. One thing I would like for you to monitor is the fuel mileage. I seem to be getting in the low to mid 40's on mixed riding which is a bit disappointing. Also with the stock tires my speedometer was off by 5 miles per hour at highway speeds. I replaced those tires with offroad Motoz tires and now it's about 4 miles per hour off. The speedo is reading high which means the mileage is even a bit worse. Average miles per gallon displayed on the TFT is always way off, too.Thanks. Looking forward to the reviews.

Quite pricy in the US! Here in Sweden, list price is 129.900SEK equal about 11.000USD! That's inclduing everything, we are not charged any extras like transport fees! And while the price for new bikes is hardly negotiable (the profit margin is simply too small for that), with some negotiation you could get the first service included or right now some dealer are even including plastic paniers.

The tubeless tyres (tires) alone perk my interest. As a former Tenere 700 owner the Aprilia appears to blow it out of the water. My only concerns would be , as you mentioned, reliability and parts. Yamaha have great coverage worldwide.
I agree a middle weight adventure bike is an exciting market segment so I'm really interested in following this series. With the Aprillia retail price (less tax/license) about what used T7s go for around me, it's a compelling option. Not gonna lie, it annoys the crap out of me the average rider can't get the T7 without a huge premium due to limited availability. That said, very interested in the reliability aspect of both the Tuareg and the KTM 890 you're also covering. Both of these are high on the list to replace my AT. Hi Ian - love the brief review and explanation of pricing. (New subscriber.) I recently bought a new BMW F750GS after looking at several other bikes. A couple of things made me pass on the Tuareg. Firstly, it's too tall for me (or I'm too short for the bike 🙂) and secondly, the welded sub-frame could be very expensive to repair if it gets damaged. Great looking bike, though, and capable of carrying heavy loads.
Ian “ Big rock Moto“ been watching the channel now for about a year. Two thumbs up, you are world class!! Never get tired of what you’re doing. Anyways GP motorcycles is right down the street from my house. I will be there this Saturday because of you to test ride that motorcycle!! Also Moto Guzzi version 85TT is on that list also. But what a great video, cruise control at that why can’t the Japanese manufacturers just put cruise control on their midsize adventure bikes??
Fantastic content as always, Ian. Any time I'm curious about an ADV model and want a detailed review, your channel is always my first stop. I think the fact that you purchase many of the bikes allows you to give a unique perspective that might be difficult for someone who's totally dependent on access to press bikes, and I greatly respect the fact that you're able to evaluate your own purchases in such an honest way. This bike sure does look compelling, especially with the Transalp looking like a bit of a dud (for my purposes). My Africa Twin's days may be numbered...

I voted for this bike in the beginning when given a choice of Husqvarna and Aprilia. Have to say it sets a bar to compare to. Price, Stock options, Weight, more gas and lower to center of gravity. Dealer Network 😏 This segment is to be taken off road - off dirt road. And still having street capabilities. 400+ pounds is difficult to manage at low speed when things get rough. There is No dodging that. Hopefully the KTM 550 can come in at 375 ish and low tank. If and when. Hopefully Ducati will chime in and set a new light/midweight benchmark with there new take over. Will be curious to see if durability/reliability becomes an issue particularly if you are banging it around off-road.... My Tuono factory was a delicious motorcycle but could not shake the quality issues, particularly oil leaks and overheating. Sadly, I chose to sell it despite the V4 being the best engine ever put into a motorcycle.... My 1250GS bulletproof so far ....
Zac raved about the Trans Alp 750 and gave it his highest position on the leaderboard at the end of the year. Seems like a great bike for $9,995. Maybe not as hardcore as the Toureg and KTM but he said it was all that and a bag of chips. Well not verbatim but you know what I mean..... Oh and they are a dime a dozen right now at every corner Honda dealership.
The Tuareg is really capturing my attention. I am a fan of the mid-adventure sector. I do longer rides, 500+ mile days. Look forward to your future reviews to see how the Tuareg holds up
Quickly Becoming the best out there for sure. Love the HONESTY in your approach to reviews. I want an opinion of what u think of the new SUZUKI vstrom 800de? More suspension than the old 650 and a 21 " wheel have me interested 4 sure...due to previously owna 650.
650 was already top heavy and heavy, the 800 has more power/travel/clearance but is not light enough for real BDR use imho, too heavy/35# over a 650 which is not the lightest bike. Not safe for me, due to the weight, and I prefer tubeless.

Finally got to throw a leg over one of these today. I can flat foot it with bent knees, so I guess that means I should get the extra thick comfy seat! Dealer quoted me $14,300 on the bike, but taxes where I am are $420 less. Reg/fees are $200 less than you paid. They want $100 more for prep and a "processing" fee of $300. Charging $1,000 for freight, seems odd since it's east coast. Overally, they're padding >$1,000 over what you paid. I'll need to shop around!
I love this bike! Looking forward to your reviews. I have been without a bike for a couple of years and have been contemplating getting back in the saddle again. Where I live now, I will definitely benefit from a platform that can do dirt and pavement, and this bike has definitely caught my attention.
I've been hoping you would test this bike out! Specs/features, price, and looks in my opinion make this the top middle weight adv. Whether it lives up to that top spot in reality depends on how it rides and its reliability. And you are the best one out there to trust on that!! Can't wait to hear your experience good and not so good.

Hi Ian. I own a Tuareg for 5 months. 2500 miles on it now. Very happy with it. (I also own a 2016 1200GSA). The Tuareg feels like what a small GS should have been in my opinion. No complaints. No issues.
Bought the Aprilia after a back to back test ride against the Norden 901. The Tuareg brought a bigger smile on my face than the Norden. And also despite being a lot cheaper , it did not show in quality.
Added quickshifter and Heed Crashbars and skid plate. Interestingly with the more open engine protection the heat from the exhaust seems a lot less than before.
All in all very happy with this bike on and off-road.
Since the suspension is fully adjustable, would love to see you doing a "suspension setup" video, where you fully set up, for aggressive and plush options.... walk through how to do it... and share your fav settings. There is very little on the web, 4 setup for this bike. Since the suspension on this bike seems to need nothing but the settings adjusted, I bet it would become the "de facto" vid for everyone needing to set up a Tuareg... but then again, you are already my de-facto on all things moto! Appreciate the excellent channel and attention to details you provide!
Hi, in Italy, where I live, this bike has been compared with the Tenere. The main difference seems to be the engine character. The CP2 has more low rpm torque that helps a lot in off-road. The Tuareg has more juice on open roads. Also it seems to be more comfortable as it comes with softer suspensions. As an Italian I am very curious to see your comments on the bike.
The CP2 has more capacity it's called a 700 after all. They both fire the same 270° crank. I would have been happier with a 600cc for cheaper road tax and better fuel economy. And smoothness. It would still have enough power for solo rides

Hi Massimo. Salve. I also live in italy. Love the bike. I think the character of the engine makes it very pleasant to ride off road. Very controlled. On the road it is a fantastic bike. Especially the right twisty roads in Abruzzo and Umbria. Also on bad surface of which we have plenty 😆🇮🇹

On pricing - you did well. Back in July I was quoted $15040 OTD at the Glendale CA area dealership. That said, shortly after, I was lucky enough to find a used Indaco Tagelmust (private sale) with 1100 miles on it. Came with Hepco Becker hard cases, engine bars, brush guards, headlight guard, additional OEM low seat and a tail rack. Taxes in I paid $13,900. This is my 5th bike after returning to riding 7 years ago and by far my favorite so far. Looking forward to your future videos further confirming my bias. Keep up the good work!

I tried to buy a Tuareg, in Norther California. Dealership wanted $15k+, charging a freight and setup fee AND then taxing both. They lost the sale. I had bought a new Beta earlier in the year and the dealer only charged the freight fee and didn't tax it. I bought an 890 Adv R instead for LESS than what that dealer wanted for a Tuareg. Anyways...Keep up the good work Big Rock!
Hello Ian! I traded my 2020 KTM 390 Adventure(22000km 75% on dirt) on a new Tuareg 660 Martian Red...just have to wait for it to arrive. Also, living in Quebec, Canada I will also have to wait until Spring 2023. Love your choice of tires. I am also immediately swapping to Motoz RallZ. Hope you also feature and comment on the accessories available(or lack thereof) for the Tuareg. I have also purchased from the dealer OEM handlebar heaters and the lower comfort seat (I am 5'6"). By next spring I should have ready to install the following: skid plate, crash bars, barkbusters, Evo footpeg kit (my right leg is 1/2" shorter than left so the adjustable height helps my lower back when standing), auxiliary lights to help spot moose at night and a side stand foot pad. I have been using the Tusk Highland X2 rackless bags on my KTM this past year and I love them so they will go on the Tuareg. Not sure which tank bag to get until I see how they fit. Hope you do segment on that.

I like how they mounted the exaust higher up at the rear on the Tuareg.
The front bash plate is a bit meh, but at least they give you something
to protect the front, and you can always buy a better after market one later.
The new Transalp has no protection up front as standard, and the rear muffler
is mounted too low imo. Looking forward to your reviews on the Tuareg.👍
I’ve got over 9,000 miles on my red Tuareg. The only issue I’ve had is the fueling stumble. Garbo UpMap took care of that for the most part. I’ve had no weep hole issues or anything else.
Its worth mentioning that this is the only bike I know of in this mid adv market that has Cruise Control, essential for me. The only other bike is the CFMOTO 800MT but that is more street focused and a lot heavier. The direct competition T7 and the new Transalp do NOT have CC.
Other bikes with CC would be the moto guzzi V85TT and the triump tiger 800xcx, but yeah they are really skimping on simple features to not eat into their higher tier bikes
You are spot on on just about everything from stating that this segment produces some of the best motorcycles to not buying extended warranties etc
Thanks for giving the Toureg a go, you're one of the very few credible TH-camrs out there. I've riden the Toureg/T7/Desert X and the Aprilia is it at the top of the list to replace my aging XC800. Cheers 👍
Yesss I’m super excited for this. On paper the Touareg is unicorn material, but the media coverage on the bike has been minimal. The only thing I’m not too keen on are the looks of the bike. It just doesn’t have that same cool utilitarian off-road look like the T7 or the Adventure R.
I’m very interested to see what the best adventure motorcycle journalist on TH-cam has to say about it.
As a Tuareg owner I'm looking forward to your thoughts and comparisons, also what mods you end up doing. I agree on price/features/availability, I "was" planning to buy a T7 and scarcity quickly killed that plan, then silly mark-ups just nailed the coffin shut. I love Italian bikes and own several, so when the Tuareg quickly became a reality for me I jumped at the chance to buy one and have not been disappointed. The dealer (Pro Italia) was very fair on the price with no mark-ups and gave me a great trade in on one of my Ducatis. Yes, Piaggio USA could stand to do a LOT better in terms of dealership network and how they treat dealers so they remain in business or continue to carry Aprilia and Moto Guzzi products.
But that said, you can't get parts for a T7 either right now so..... Japanese dealerships aren't what they used to be either. They carry very little parts inventory so they have to order every dang thing. They don't even stock OEM clutch/brake levers or mirrors etc.

Do you still have the Tuareg? It's one of my favorite dream bikes on my wish list. But the thing stopping me on the Tuareg is the horrible low gear ratios, which is a problem common to all modern adventure bikes, but perhaps even worse on the Tuareg as it screams down the road at 70mph at 5000rpms. Although I think it should be possible to reduce the back sprocket size by about 15 teeth, by having a custom CNC shop make one from scratch. I know from past experience that you can reduce the back sprocket by 30% and it makes a bike much more enjoyable to drive on actual American roads and highways where the bikes are sold.
I am very intrigued by the 660, but am concerned about the reliability, being there are so few dealers
An excellent price for what your getting.. I will be doing one for sure. I have experience with Aprilia in the past, O7 Tuono 1000 that I rode the wheels off of with no brand issues what so ever. So I have confidence in the Aprilia brand. I get parts through AF1 sent within days and have NEVER used a dealer tech.. In fact the dealer did a shitty job of setting up my Tuono back in the day So dealer network means nothing to me.. Keep up the good work.

I am starting to love the Tuareg, and I really want to see how it fares long term, especially from the point of view of a guy (you) who is going to use it for what it was designed for! Your positive comments about the bike at the rider launch with Ben makes me consider this bike as my next purchase, but here in Australia we have the same issues as you with sparse dealer networks and limited availability of spares etc. Looking forward to seeing your next video on the Tuareg! Having been in the industry years before I do have an issue with dealers. The 1250cdn and 650 cdn charged for shipping and pdi is mostly full profit ! bikes on early booking programs are shipped no charge to the dealer and the pdi setup person is usually reserved for the lowest mechanical level technician ( Newby) and takes about 2 hours MAX start to finish. Don't get ne started on the Doc fee

I find it crazy that you don't get the Rally, the World Raid or the 2023 upgrades in USAmerica but I find it even crazier than you could get a Tuareg cheaper than a T7. Here in France it's still 1k€+ more expensive than the T7 and there's no supply shortage on the T7 (because it's made here). That said, Aprilia's dealer network and retailing is on par with Yamaha's, so the Tuareg is still very competitive with the T7, considering its superior features.

I bought my 2017 Vstrom brand new for $5300 USD. Certainly no good off road, but a great touring machine and good enough on a gravel road with the right tires. Just put gas in a Vstrom....and oil the chain.

I am very happy that you have the Tuareg. I really like the way you analyse the pros and cons of the motorcycles you owne. I am looking to buy a Tuareg and I think I could sell my Husqvarna 250 tei and my KTM 1190 adv and buy an Aprilia Tuareg. But I will not sell my TRS trial motorcycle.
I am looking forward to this series. I am hopibg to pick up one of these in a year or two, just gotta pay off my Vstrom first.

Going to be fun to arch this. I have an older Aprilia Mana 850 and it’s never given me any issues. Love the build quality of it and only paid like $3500 for it with 2000km on it 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

Took one of these out for a ride on loose gravel as part of an Aprilia riding day launch. Didn't expect much however walked away stunned on how good this bike is. It's suprisingly good at everything and so nimble for it's size. It felt so easy to ride and handles amazingly well. Aprilia have done their homework and delivered. I currently own a 2020 KTM 690 and although I would be giving up some off road, the gap is less than I expected for this class however the on road is great. Fun, easy to live with bike provided maintenance isn't an issue.
I bought my 2021 KTM 890 slightly used (400 miles) for $11500.00 with new ax-41 tires and taller spare windscreen. I couldn't find a Norden 901 reasonably un-sold. Kinds glad I didn't. No prep, fright, or added costs except a $95 doc fee. I like Aprilia but you gotta buy parts in Texas (AF1 Racing). Good build quality but I'd rather have the HP and slightly larger dealer Network. However, I definitely buy the Tuareg 660 over the T-7 econobike.

Just paid £9515 all in for mine ($11,182 equivalent) in blue and white, with extended warranty and delivered to my door. There are some great deals to be had on these at the moment and so far I absolutely love it, except for the high beam switch which annoyingly gets flicked on when operating the clutch (think I will file the end off a little).

There's good deals to be had because there so unpopular in the uk and dealers can't shift them for less than the price of a new T7.

… indeed - you are quite influential .. I test rode the Tuareg today in Bavaria - coming from Multistradas and GS’es, the Tuareg was a surprising fun to ride - light, nimble, good looking, too in my view - I even dared to illegally enter some forest tracks (… which I would never dare with my MTS V4), and it was pure entertainment … very tempting … but it got quite hot (even under cold autumn conditions) on its way back downtown …
The reason I love your work Ian is because you’re passionate about the segment AND you’ve ridden all the bikes. You also think like I do when evaluating a bike, and we are pretty much the same height/weight so everything you say is 100% valid for me. Keep up the great work! I’m looking forward to this series. I just dumped my T7 for a big profit (way too top heavy and the brakes suck) and am keeping my 890, but I may add a Tuareg (assuming my wife is ok with another bike).
The Tuareg is imo the bike to beat in the Middlweight ADV segment, and if I could only own one bike the Tuareg would be that bike. The T7 is a great bike if you can get one for list... but even at list it is not a clear "bang for the buck" winner over the Tuareg.
Had a friend just went new bike shopping and his final choice was between the Tuareg and the Multi 950. If he'd not already had a DR650 I'd have recommended the Tuareg... but since he already has a more offroad friendly bike I recommended (and he bought) the 950. The T7 was never in the running.
As for me... even though the Tuareg is a great bike, I have heavyweight ADV bikes (Multistrada and Tiger) and for offroad ADV IMO the middleweight segment is still WAY too heavy... so I built my own lightweight bike starting with a Husqvarna 701 Enduro... a hundred pounds lighter and only a few hp down on the Tuareg (but it cost me $20k to get it set up for ADV... so expensive)
Looking forward to your future videos. The Tuareg has got my attention especially since UK dealers are selling them for £9000 (About $10,700), RRP is usually £10,600. I've heard great things about them but as mentioned the reliability and service/parts are a worry. I may wait until the bike has been out for a couple of years so they can get through the teething issues or else "adventurize" a Husky 701

I have been wanting something maybe a bit more refined and advanced to the KLR, like a T700 but those are probably too tall for me and the Aprilla seems like a really good bang for the buck!

I plan on buying one in a couple of weeks. I know a lot of people don’t like the looks but I think it’s the best looking adventure bike it’s 80s feel is amazing. Only bike I think looks better is the Africa Twin.
Tried installing handlebar guards on my KLX300 and my friend got the rubber so hot that now the throttle is sticking. Really hope it’s just the melted grip and no damage to the throttle.
I really looking forward to this series. Hope you talk about the Tuareg clutch. I tried it this summer and didn’t like the wire clutch. Haven’t found a aftermarket hydraulic yet, but that is a deal breaker for me if I want to buy it.
Hey Ian. Glad to see you're doing this long term review on the Tuareg 660. I've had mine for about 2 1/2 months now. One thing I would like for you to monitor is the fuel mileage. I seem to be getting in the low to mid 40's on mixed riding which is a bit disappointing. Also with the stock tires my speedometer was off by 5 miles per hour at highway speeds. I replaced those tires with offroad Motoz tires and now it's about 4 miles per hour off. The speedo is reading high which means the mileage is even a bit worse. Average miles per gallon displayed on the TFT is always way off, too.Thanks. Looking forward to the reviews.

Quite pricy in the US! Here in Sweden, list price is 129.900SEK equal about 11.000USD! That's inclduing everything, we are not charged any extras like transport fees! And while the price for new bikes is hardly negotiable (the profit margin is simply too small for that), with some negotiation you could get the first service included or right now some dealer are even including plastic paniers.

As someone who has a husky 701, cruise control should come standard on all ADVs. Even just to rest your wrist for a few minutes.

The tubeless tyres (tires) alone perk my interest. As a former Tenere 700 owner the Aprilia appears to blow it out of the water. My only concerns would be , as you mentioned, reliability and parts. Yamaha have great coverage worldwide.
Also, those extra costs on buying a bike in the USA is eye watering. Freight and dealer prep. Ouchie.

I agree a middle weight adventure bike is an exciting market segment so I'm really interested in following this series. With the Aprillia retail price (less tax/license) about what used T7s go for around me, it's a compelling option. Not gonna lie, it annoys the crap out of me the average rider can't get the T7 without a huge premium due to limited availability. That said, very interested in the reliability aspect of both the Tuareg and the KTM 890 you're also covering. Both of these are high on the list to replace my AT. Hi Ian - love the brief review and explanation of pricing. (New subscriber.) I recently bought a new BMW F750GS after looking at several other bikes. A couple of things made me pass on the Tuareg. Firstly, it's too tall for me (or I'm too short for the bike 🙂) and secondly, the welded sub-frame could be very expensive to repair if it gets damaged. Great looking bike, though, and capable of carrying heavy loads.

Anyways GP motorcycles is right down the street from my house. I will be there this Saturday because of you to test ride that motorcycle!! Also Moto Guzzi version 85TT is on that list also. But what a great video, cruise control at that why can’t the Japanese manufacturers just put cruise control on their midsize adventure bikes??
Fantastic content as always, Ian. Any time I'm curious about an ADV model and want a detailed review, your channel is always my first stop. I think the fact that you purchase many of the bikes allows you to give a unique perspective that might be difficult for someone who's totally dependent on access to press bikes, and I greatly respect the fact that you're able to evaluate your own purchases in such an honest way.
This bike sure does look compelling, especially with the Transalp looking like a bit of a dud (for my purposes). My Africa Twin's days may be numbered...

I voted for this bike in the beginning when given a choice of Husqvarna and Aprilia. Have to say it sets a bar to compare to. Price, Stock options, Weight, more gas and lower to center of gravity.

400+ pounds is difficult to manage at low speed when things get rough. There is No dodging that.
Hopefully the KTM 550 can come in at 375 ish and low tank. If and when.
Hopefully Ducati will chime in and set a new light/midweight benchmark with there new take over.

My Tuono factory was a delicious motorcycle but could not shake the quality issues, particularly oil leaks and overheating. Sadly, I chose to sell it despite the V4 being the best engine ever put into a motorcycle.... My 1250GS bulletproof so far ....

Zac raved about the Trans Alp 750 and gave it his highest position on the leaderboard at the end of the year. Seems like a great bike for $9,995. Maybe not as hardcore as the Toureg and KTM but he said it was all that and a bag of chips. Well not verbatim but you know what I mean..... Oh and they are a dime a dozen right now at every corner Honda dealership.

Quickly Becoming the best out there for sure. Love the HONESTY in your approach to reviews. I want an opinion of what u think of the new SUZUKI vstrom 800de? More suspension than the old 650 and a 21 " wheel have me interested 4 sure...due to previously owna 650.
650 was already top heavy and heavy, the 800 has more power/travel/clearance but is not light enough for real BDR use imho, too heavy/35# over a 650 which is not the lightest bike. Not safe for me, due to the weight, and I prefer tubeless.

Finally got to throw a leg over one of these today. I can flat foot it with bent knees, so I guess that means I should get the extra thick comfy seat! Dealer quoted me $14,300 on the bike, but taxes where I am are $420 less. Reg/fees are $200 less than you paid. They want $100 more for prep and a "processing" fee of $300. Charging $1,000 for freight, seems odd since it's east coast. Overally, they're padding >$1,000 over what you paid. I'll need to shop around!

I've been hoping you would test this bike out! Specs/features, price, and looks in my opinion make this the top middle weight adv. Whether it lives up to that top spot in reality depends on how it rides and its reliability. And you are the best one out there to trust on that!! Can't wait to hear your experience good and not so good.
