My, my how it's changed! I haven't been back for about 57 years. We were there for their first State Fair. The food was amazing even then. We stayed at the Outrigger right on the beach. Don Ho's place was busy all the time. He was there to welcome everyone. Thanks so much for the tour that brought back good memories. Nicole, you were ravishing in the yellow sundress. Keep having fun and I'll keep tagging along! Thanks.
Elvis Presley was one of the main reason the Arizona memorial got built. He did a huge fundraiser back in the early 60's to help fund the construction.
Actually, it was Colonel Parker. He loved Hawaii and did whatever he could to tie Elvis to the place and giving him a free trip there on business. Parker came up with the idea for a memorial concert to help fund the place, then let Elvis know he was going to do the concert. It was his last concert until the Comeback (Singer) Special in 68. Elvis himself liked the islands and went there several times over the years. Important events in his personal life are tied to the place.
@@sardu55Colonel Parker may have set it in motion but Elvis and his band and singers/choirs did all the work to raise the money. Elvis was the most generous man who gave away millions to charities and individuals. Parker got a huge share of everything Elvis earned.
Not exactly. The memorial had already been in the planning stage for years, and had been designed. Fundraising was already going on, and the Elvis concert did provide a good chunk of money for it, but it was not the sole source. Factoid: Since Elvis' manager Tom Parker was a well-hidden illegal alien from the Netherlands who had come to the US in the 1920s, he did not have a passport, and could not have gotten one. He always traveled with Elvis at that time and because Parker could not leave the USA, Elvis didn't either after he got back from Germany where he'd been stationed while in the Army. Hawaii was one of the only overseas destinations that Col. Parker could legally travel to, thus he and Elvis came here. But Elvis did really love Hawaii as well, so he was happy to visit.
@@sardu55 Elvis liked his GI buddies from Hawaii, while in Germany, because they treated him like a normal person. I guess Elvis wanted to return a favor.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip used to br able to go up Aloha Tower in their elevator to see the sights from the top but 9/11 changed that (though they should reconsider). There is a nightly luau on the grounds by Aloha Tower (hence all that party event items on the grounds). Honolulu : hoe (like the garden tool)-kno-lou-lou). There is no 'a', so it must not be pronounced like the town of Hana (on Maui).
Hi, Joe. There is a survivor's list of the USS Arizona on Wikipedia, and the last survivor just passed April 2024, Lou Conter, who was 102. Just an FYI. I looked it up because I love history.
I was in Maui 27 years ago with my late husband and 3 teenage daughters. We rented like an apartment in Lanai and did alot of cooking in house because it was expensive to eat out. We ended up spending approximately $15,000 for ten days but it was the most wonderful vacation I've ever been on. I cried when Maui burned. Never got to see the Arizona memorial but I really want to. I have a second cousin at rest there.Glad your enjoying your visit.
Love your Hawaii video. I was in Army for a year there 1966-67. Bring back memories. Nicole wear your flower in your hair on Left side if you are married or unavailable. Wear on right side if single and looking. Have an amazing time.
I went to St. Louis High School in Honolulu in 1972-73, where I graduated from. Lots of fun things to do there, and around the island. I remember as a poor student oftentimes visting a small drive-in, in the vicinity of a Buddhist dormitory where they had the standard drive-in fare but also deep-fried mahi-mahi burgers, which I always got in addition to their version of ramen. At the time it was very affordable, and which I still remember as among the best meals I've ever had.
My Mom and I lived on Oahu for 3 years, without ever going to Honolulu or Waikiki Beach. We tried a few times, but the drive was crazy enough to make us change plans lol. When we went to the beach, it was on the windward side. Used to catch small sharks in pearl harbor, from the dock. My stepdad would stop for bait, when I went to work with him. Thanks for taking us along!
Really good tour, thank you. We started going (we're in Calif) about 20 years ago, however Hawaii is currently on pause because our dollars go farther in other places. We really like the gardens and museums (we're old, ha ha), and the warm weather, warm ocean and clean air. Plus each island feels very different. Oahu has all the services and the windward side feels kinda removed from it all. Glad you appreciated Peal Harbor; the oil floating on the water after all these years are like tears.
Thanks, Joe and Nicole for showing me Honolulu, a place I will never see otherwise. Also for showing all the other states I will never see in person. ❤❤👍👍
I made my first visit there (as a 12 year-old) at the very end of 1979, and our family vacation timed it perfectly for a typhoon that kept knocking out power & flooding the streets. It was also an eye-opening experience when on our very first night we were walking by the International Market Place and a guy stopped us to ask my father if he needed to buy some weed 😆 (he passed on that, btw). As someone who loves old movie theaters I wish you could have seen the incredible one that was there - the Waikiki, which opened in 1936 and closed in 2002. I went to see the Steven Spielberg movie "1941" there, and it remains the most beautiful cinema I've ever been in - absolutely huge, with palm trees on either side of the screen. Back then my parents didn't mind heading off to see what they wanted to see while their youngest wandered around on his own 😊
It wasn't a typhoon; that word is only used for storms on the west side of the International Date Line, and Hawaii is on the east side of it. They're called hurricanes, just like the rest of the USA. And there was no hurricane in 1979. The only direct hits by hurricanes were in 1982 and 1992, and they went directly over Kauai, with Oahu on the edges.
As always thanks Joe for another one of your honest opinion easy flowing video. 🙏Yep for people who have not been there it seems like a great getaway place, but as you showed it would be a real hole in the wallet kind of a vacation if one comes with a moderate budget without knowing the score .
I went to elementary school in Honolulu and have been there numerous times since as my sister has lived there for over 30 years. It is very expensive regarding rent and food or any basic essentials and lacks having any seasons, every day is basically the same. Unless you like the beach there is not really much else once you have seen it all, which is quite easy considering it is an island. Maybe a nice place for a retired wealthy person, which I am not.
I loved it! The Pearl Harbor memorial was the best part, I read somewhere that Elvis did a concert in the early 60s to help get that memorial built. And that pineapple dessert at the end!! Thanks for taking us along for the ride, since I’ll never make it to Hawaii…really looking forward to the rest of the islands. I’ve been subscribed to you since early last year and was hoping you’d go there! Be safe guys.
I have lived here for over 34 years. Retired from the Navy. First postal job was to empty every collection mailbox in Waikiki on Saturdays. Collected mail downtown during the week. So, I know the place well. Glad I bought a townhome back in the 80s, which is now paid off. You do NOT want to be a renter here. You cannot beat the weather here. People are nice if you chill out a little and be patient. Took me a long time to do that, but finally did. The culture here is to respect elders. Which is nice since I am 71. Originally from metro Detroit.
Aloha! Thanks for the virtual Hawaiian tour! I grew up on Oahu in the early 60s...my dad was stationed at Pearl Harbor and we lived in the naval housing in Wahiawa. That was a long time ago, and Hawaii at the time was an amazing place to be a kid. I went back a few years ago, and while it was a fun trip, the experience couldn't live up to my memories. PS: nice dress, Nicole!
I was there 1959-1962. Two bedroom apartment in Manoa Valley was $90/ month. You could buy a decent car at Aloha Motors for $100. Hamburger steak, two scoop rice, and fruit punch for .90 at Maruzan Grill. Don’t think I’ll revisit at current prices.
Thank you for doing this. I wanted to do this about 15 or so years ago on 8K. Had to cancel due to work schedule. Never did get my reservation money back. Glad your trip was a success!😊
A wonderful video ! Amazing buildings and a gorgeous beach ! Your hotel room looks beautiful, awesome views ! The chickens were very cute ! Thanks so much, Joe and Nic.🌴💖
aloha kākou (Joe Nic and everyone) so exciting to see Hawaii from your lens. Thank you for visiting and filming the USS Arizona Memorial. My grandfather survived that conflict at the ripe old age of 17.
Thank you for visiting our state. I watch your videos all the time. I am boran and raised in Hawaii. I am Hawaiian. Us local people who do not live in "town" or downtown as you call it don't even go there. If we don't need to we don't go to town. All the areas that you visited we usually stay away from. By the way Nicole looks fabulous with the flower in her ear and the aloha print. The homeless people is all from the mainland. Other states are sending their homeless to Hawaii because we have perfect year-round weather. This breaks my heart because growing up I've never seen homeless the way it is now. The litter everywhere and there are shopping baskets full of junk everywhere. It reminds me of the mainland. I wish our state would send them back. Hopefully you had a chance to go to our windward side as well as our west side. Majority of the locals live on that end of the island. Mostly Asians are in town.a note to peiple who are comsidering visiting Hawaii. Do not stay in Waikiki. Fina an air bnb or stay on the west side. We jave hotels in Kapolei. Real Hawaiian food shoukd at least be eaten at Highway inn or Elenas. Rent a car if you are not staying in Waikiki. Waikiki is fake Hawaii. If you want the real experience dont stay in waikiki. Us locals dont even go to waikiki. Its a sinful place.
Thanks for showing a side of Hawaii that makes its statehood real to me. The old architecture is beautiful and i loved their Capital building. Spam is great and you and Nicole do appear to be an opposites couple that, as you said, makes it work!
Beautiful views from the hotel! Love the lighthouse built in ‘26! Love the weather vane. Honolulu is beautiful. Iolani Palace is gorgeous ! Very cool to see Pearl Harbor. Yes that is a unique Capitol building. I do like the building built in 1870. Gorgeous beach!! I’m with Nicole on the Masubi 😂. The Hawaiian food looks delicious! Enjoyed this video! Looking forward to more HI!
Skip the car rental, get an unlimited bus pass. Go to the Goodwill near Pearlridge where you can buy brand new clothing from last year's supply. Eat at family restaurants at the edge of town. Same food. Leave your mainland luggage at home. If you want to see life in Hawaii, take the bus, meet the people and see the sights how everybody lives.
The real beauty of Hawaìi is in it's people and their spirit of Aloha! I've lived in a few unique places in the USA, and i find Hawaii the most unique. It's growth and urbanization has changed much, however getting to know it's people will help you understand what i mean? It's why i chose to live the past 46 years here...and, and, and they would help you with pronunciations :) Have fun and....Aloha!
Yeah, I was shocked at the way he said King Kamehameha, and the names of a few other things. I’ve never been to Hawaii, but as old as he is, you’d think he’d have at least heard it before.
I'll be going to Waikiki soon for 10 days. Airfare $900, accomodations (with kitchen) $1,500. I'll be cooking all but 1 meal a day in my room and bringing canned and boxed foods with me, which is why an airline with 2 checked bags included is the best choice. I'll also use the weekly bus pass ($30) for transportation except to and from the airport (luggage), which I'll use Lift or another rideshare. No expensive Luaus needed, there are plenty of free Hula dance shows around. I should be able to keep the trip well under $5,000, if not less than $4,000.
It was good to see you both. I just loved the purple/yellow floral dress. Very pretty and a good look on Nicole. I enjoyed visiting Pearl Harbor. Just very sad. Looking forward to the next one.🌴
Incredible video. I almost cried seeing all of those names on the wall at Pearl Harbour. That gratuity on your dinner bill is crazy, I live in Ireland and we pay a 12.5% included in the bill but not even at every restaurant is that expected. American tipping culture seems excessive. The food looked great though and I appreciate how you show all sides of a town or city, it really gives a more real picture of a place and I don't think it takes away from the beauty of a place, I think it enhances the experience, so thank you for a great video.
Congrats on finally making it to Hawaii. We vacationed on the big island 2 years ago. It was beautiful and I’m grateful we experienced it, but I feel no need to return. Your videos are good comprehensive looks at where you visit. I appreciate your work.
Kawaiaha'o Church is called the Westminister Abbey of Hawai'i because the church, like Great Britain's Westminister Abbey, functioned as the state church for the Hawaiian Royal Family. It was the site of most royal funerals and several members of the Royal Family, including King Lunalilo are buried in the church's cemetery.
I'm with Nicole. Had too many Spam fritter school dinners. Spam is still sold in some supermarkets here in the UK but not so common as it was in my childhood with more healthy options available😄
Those Capital bldg trees are straight out of the movie Avatar! Thanks for the visit to Honolulu guys. Hawaii and Alaska are the only two states I’ve yet to visit. Great sun dresses Nicole.
We are lucky enough to have been to Oahu many times over the years as we love it. It's a beautiful place. You showed some of the historic buildings around Honolulu and there are more such as the Bishop Museum and some interesting architecture and restaurants in Chinatown. We always rent a car as we love to travel around the island and there is much to see and appreciate! Am excited to see your next video as you explore the smaller towns on Oahu! I would also note that it is possible to do a less expensive trip as we have to since we don't have a lot of money. This video made me "homesick" for another visit!
You think about it, small yards are to be expected, land is at a premium there...but I agree, I like big yards also. Hawaii is great, wish I was lucky and had a winter home there, glad you have had a great time and thanks again for the video and showing how much everything is. You and I share a common thought. If you are going to be homeless....I want to be homeless in Hawaii lol.
I'll be back in Febuary for a week or so. Honestly everyone should go at least once, it's not just the beach. There is amazing off roading, you can rent a super car and take one of the most scenic drives in the country, the skydiving is absolutely breath taking. Almost endless trails that lead to postcard views, best deep sea fishing in the country for sure, and so much more. Hawaii, Colorado, and Italy are my favorite places to travel.
I’m so glad that you are having a blast! And happy that you loved the food. I grew up with Asian fusion food and the ingredients can be found in your local supermarkets! travel costs are outrageous though!! As always, thanks for the history and taking us along!
Joe & Nic, I’ve enjoyed your vlog of Honolulu, as an ex-islander.. yes, your pronunciation is a bit off. But entertaining… locations are right on., because I have relocated to the Bay Area for work and missed my home in Hawaii. I periodically scan through You tube to have a peek of the current state of my home town..you guys are great, Thank you for the wonderful vlog of your visit to Honolulu..Aloha..!
What an awesome job showing Honolulu. I used to live there and you presented the city as it really is, the good and the bad. It is very expensive to visit and to live there, but it is so beautiful with the mild weather, the gorgeous views, the amazing history and the fragrant flowers. Ah, spam musubi, food of the gods. Job well done!
Thsnk you taking us around the island and showing so many if the buildings, homes, the harbor and the canal , and of coarse the Arizona !! My father was a medic in the army stationed there on the day the bombers came in and attacked Pearl Harbor , he would never talk about it except to say it was a day of many deaths and injuries and it was a terrible day for our country !! Thank you for all your videos !! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
What another video grand slam. I live in the heart of arkansas and F.Y.I. your trip cost more than my house. That pineapple dessert you devoured looked like the best food item ever. Thanks for taking me with you. Sincerely, Jim Thornton
Being a fan of the old Hawaii Five-O series I had to go to that palace and get some pictures of that. Also being a fan of I Dream Of Jeannie I had to get a picture of myself with King Kamehameha which she had blink back to life for a couple of hours. Fun fact the guy they got to play the King was Barbara Eden's husband.
Such a shame... While this video shares many of Oahu's negative realities, it did a huge disservice by not showing many of the positives. Also very Honolulu focused, which was a disservice IMO!! If you come halfway across the Pacific Ocean to Oahu and don't get out and see what the island truly has to offer, you deserve a lackluster experience and that's what I saw in this video. I've been to Oahu over a dozen times and sure seems they picked the most overpriced hotels, overpriced transportation and the worst spots to visit. If you research your trip before coming, you'll be very glad you made the trip, again IMO.
@@scottscriticalmassno I think they picked the right spots for their video. I never really looked at down Honolulu with such wonder but with this video, I realized indeed downtown Honolulu is gorgeous. It's the posters lost for judging the whole of Hawaii by one video that only show few places in Hawaii. His lost, beside, I like the island less crowded so one tourist less is a win 😂
@@elperinasoswa6772 - TBH, my response was was in reaction to both of Joe's videos on Oahu. As somebody's who's spent quite a bit of time on Oahu, I just felt it was a bad representation overall, especially if it results in potential visitors 'scratching Hawaii of their bucket lists'. He literally missed all the best spots on the island, of which there are MANY. Cheers...
I think the modernist state capital building proves that you can have beauty in any genre of architecture. This is a stunning example of modernist architecture, working with the unusual climate Hawaii has. I have to say, these videos make me want to visit Hawaii as well someday. We have an amazing nation with so much beauty. The best part is that your videos show all aspects, and it makes me like the place more. PS Nicoles meal looks amazing - ahi tuna steak looks like I could eat this meal - and that dessert makes me want to make this. For that amaxing food I think you did well.
That is my HOME.... oh to be @ home right now.. I like the mainland, but there is nothing like Honolulu in this world. I am getting up in age and just retired last month. My prayer is to spend my 50th birthday @ home and moved in. Thanks for this....
Hi Joe and Nic..I really enjoyed your 'tour' of Honolulu. You're right about the overall cost. It's crazy expensive, but as long as you both enjoyed yourself, then it's worth the high cost. I totally agree what you said about clothing being cheap. Compared to prices we pay in Australia, clothing in Honolulu was a real bargain. I filled up two suitcases with Levi's, J.Crew, Banana Republic and other brands when I was last there in 2014. I bought so much that today, ten years later in 2024 I'm still wearing a lot of those clothes.
Thanks for the tour of Honolulu. I always booked it out of there asap as I just wanted to get out in nature. We had some great family vacations on Kauai, Maui & the Big Island, & it wasn't expensive or we would not have been there, glad to have gone when I did!😮
The theme song for the original "Five-0" was NOT by the Ventures, but by a studio orchestra. The popular version by the Ventures was released as a record when the show was in its second season, and although it sounds very similar to the real theme song, it is not the same.
As a California refuge, I have lived in west Oahu (Ewa Beach) for 20 years. Raised three kids here. Everything is different here, especially the food and people. But it's a charming place and grabs your soul, and if you can learn to roll with the punches and get in sync with the vibe, it's a wonderful place to call home and give my kids the opportunity to be raised here.
I used to live in Honolulu and other communities on the island. A tourist doesn’t get the picture of what it’s like to live there. Yes, you enjoy the beautiful weather and generally lovely environment but it’s a facade of everyday life which is a financial struggle for existence. The statistics you presented are misleading. Unless you’re in a high income bracket or are willing to accept a low standard of living, Paradise is not worth the cost. My wife and I both had professional jobs but we struggled to provide the basic necessities of life. We could not afford anything extra like dinner out occasionally. Purchasing a house or condo was impossible and rent absorbed most of our income. We couldn’t even afford an occasional trip to the mainland. The cost of groceries and other necessities is outrageous. Everyone in the local families work for low wages at multiple jobs. It’s a wonderful place to visit but not to stay. When we left Hawaii and returned to the mainland, our standard of living rose significantly and we now enjoy a comfortable retirement in the Chicago area. And there is something else nobody talks about publicly. There is discrimination everywhere against mainlanders. We never felt welcome or respected. Aloha
Nice things & nice places are expensive. So many people flock to California & complain how expensive it is & Florida is getting that way too. It stands to reason they're nice places. If I'm middle class & I'm looking for a car I don't go to a Mercedes dealership. Its a shame that people who are born there can't make it but you have to use it to you're advantage. You can't expect the government to pay you're way all you're life.
@@psychmr2365 Yes There is a very derogatory term that they use for mainlanders. I refuse to repeat it other than to say it’s the “H” word. It has nothing to do with race but it applies to anyone who comes from the mainland. I only felt comfortable around other mainlanders.
I spend a LOT of time in Hawaii. White af. I live near Chicago. I've never experienced outward racism. I know it exists but I've never had it. Best people in the country!
I live in a condo near Waikiki. Can’t afford a house here. Might have to move to Texas where my Mom lives in a house 3x the size of my condo. However, my condo costs more than her house. But the weather is great here, especially in the winter and it’s relatively close to Japan where we like to travel.
My uncle was on the USS Oklahoma, he is the survivor on USS Oklahoma, the last, he will be 104 he lives alone... Oregon he lives , David Russell, that's my maiden name...❤😊
just watched Boise Idaho at the end there were birds you did not know, they are Canada Geese. it would be nice if you identified some of the trees that you see like some of the palms if they are fruit or the "fake ones" etc. as we don t have those here in Canada.
Some of the views and scenery were just breath taking and are the things that could only exist in videos such as this and in my wildest dreams. Of course Nicole was doing an amazing job of adding to the scenery as well. She was looking very bright and cheery. As for whether it is worth it or not, maybe not to a person such as myself who does good to get to visit my mom in South Dakota every few years. I tend to eat in restaurants where what you paid just for the two of you would cover an entire family of five. More countryfied, comfort food type places. But I do thank you for the wonderful invitation to hang out with you in such a magnificent state and will be awaiting next weeks wonderful adventure. Until then take care, stay safe and God bless. It is beautiful and thanks for covering the memorial for The Arizona may be worth a visit hate the houses tho bless you Joe for handing out some money to the less fortunate ❤ 5 stars
Awesome video guys and sitting here in the cool English summer i was very jealous till i saw the costs.. £1000 a day is definitely an expensive week!! Absolutely love your videos and its given me a fresh prospective on the USA from over the pond. ❤
Nice vid . I lived there in my fun wild 20’s lol …. So many memories good and bad . Lived in Honolulu, ward ave area for 5 years (04-09 )…. My rent was $750 for a studio apt on the bottom of the 4 story complex. Scary now looking back but fun when young ….. looks like it went up a lot …. Wow so expensive…. But you guys could have done in cheaper probably…. Cheaper hotel , go to Safeway for food …..ect…. But glad you had fun …..I think it’s fun to visit, that’s about it . Aloha ❤
Greetings from Down Under, again! 🇦🇺 Loved seeing Hawaii, have always wanted to travel there, but it never eventuated. Holy cow, I was shocked at the airfares, $2765USD ($4,200AUD) from Dallas to Hawaii, that's crazy! Just to compare, return flights from Western Australia to Honolulu per person, flying Qantas, $1,585AUD ($1,050USD), takes approx 16hrs and is just shy of 11,000km (6,800miles) But the hotel... $4,811USD ($7,297AUD) for 7 nights? $10K+ USD for a week in Hawaii... That's cuckoo!
If you do a one-stop flight from DFW to HNL it's about have that price, but you will have to spend several hours in LAX, SEA, LAS, or IAH. It's also cheaper to spend a week in Europe than HI. One of the reasons that I haven't been back to HI in 30 years.
I'm really excited you guys made it to Hawaii! Another terrific video! Tagging along with you two has made it possibe for me to see places I have never seen and may not make it myself. Please consider visiting my parent's home USA territory of Guam and other US territories as well. Me and the wife are hooked on your trips through the US and look forward to every place you stop in. Be safe and continue bringing these places to us! Thank you guys!

We call them Weeping Fig here where I live in tropical North Queensland, Australia .... they're everywhere in my town and over at Magnetic Island, 20 mins ferry ride off the esplanade Some are that big you can sleep inside them on the beach on a balmy warm summers night
I thought I was the only one to notice that. Gave me the willies. With a room that high up, I would not walk onto that patio. My friends give me a ribbing when they see me avoid doing that but there’s too many instances when people have gone over the side.
Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s, the Aloha Tower area was super busy with tourists and locals! It had a lot of shops and restaurants. It was really a happening place. I miss those times!
When I was stationed in Hawaii both my wife and I loved it but decided it wasn't worth it. My last duty station was in Abilene Texas and when I retired decided to give Hawaii another try. I've been living in a house with a microscopic yard for over a quarter century now.
Ty Nicole and Joe wow it was worth it! U had a key west tank top on?? 😮😅. Was surprised that there was some "areas" there. Ur food tab was reasonable, 4 sure, and it looked awesome! Hope u guys have the best time ever! B safe out there.
If you had seen the original building you would have loved it. It was surrounded by a moat and if you look at the walls of the exterior you’d understand that the building is a volcano island. As you look up at the sky from the rotunda imagine yourself in the heart of the volcano and look down at the beautiful tilework. They might not allow that anymore. Anyway glad you enjoyed your trip.
My wife loves Hawaii Joe, so we've been there 4 times. One time would have been enough for me. They do have quite the homeless problem, but at least they don't freeze to death or die of heat stroke.
Joe, have you been working out? You're looking pretty buff. Good video. Now that you've shown it to me, I don't need to go. However, would love to go to the Arizona memorial.
Just came by your channel today and I love Hawaii so decided to watch. The different views of Oahu from your perspective were a breath of fresh air. All the beautiful buildings & architecture were new to me and I've not seen any other You Tuber cover the majority of areas you covered. It definitely expanded my horizons on the island of Oahu. Great videography by you Joe and your wife is very beautiful. I've subscribed and can't wait to binge the channel. Aloha!
First time there in 1977 it cost a Little under $550/week including round trip air fare and Coral Reef hotel near international market...for 2. Very few tall bldg. and the Palace grounds were huge. I love Hawaii, culture, people weather, terrain, etc. I believe it is paradise, only place came close was New South Wales Australia..but they have killer spiders and snakes and jelly fish and crocodiles. Good video!

Hawaii is very photogenic, and you did a great job on this video. As you were moving from left to right in front of the statue of King Kamehameha at 15:33 , it looked like he was raising his arm and waving! You mentioned how expensive most things are there. I was really surprised by your tab at the restaurant though. I was guessing it would have been over $200. I'm looking forward to the next video! Aloha!
Hello, I have been following you for sometime now and really enjoy your videos. We live in the North east of the UK and are fascinated with you showing us the good and bad of the USA. Our area is an old industrial part of the UK so we have similar issues that you see. We are just a lot smaller and a lot more compact. Keep going we are loving it
Thanks for that. We're in the good ole U of K and it's a long way there from here. At least now I feel like I've seen what Honolulu has to offer and based on what you showed us, together with the cost, I think just about anywhere in Italy or the lovely island of Madeira that we went to last Christmas would have the edge. Thanks for spending all that $$$ to go there so I don't have to.
Hello from N Ireland.Loved the video. Normally watch as soon as you put on TH-cam. Been on holiday for three weeks so now catching up!! Enjoy seeing cost of meals out. Thanks
We arrived in Honolulu two months after you (4th week of Aug) and stayed at the Wyndham Hotel for a week across from the Embassy suites. What does it mean for us to Visit this Island is... Favorite shopping spot is the Mall - Most fun is Walking on streets evenings - Most afraid of parking - Most comfortable is the climate and the most expensive thing is McDonals (Hash Brown $2.99 each 😝) and we hope to return one day soon. 😍

I have to ask, what was the bulk of that price for the ten days? Lodging? That's almost 30k in 2025 money.
Love your Hawaii video. I was in Army for a year there 1966-67. Bring back memories. Nicole wear your flower in your hair on Left side if you are married or unavailable. Wear on right side if single and looking. Have an amazing time.
Which army?
I told her about the flower! :)

Our pleasure!
😂
The most impressive thing for Me on this Video was watching You give that Lady a helping Hand, Thanx for doing that Joe, God Bless You Sir. 😃
As always thanks Joe for another one of your honest opinion easy flowing video. 🙏Yep for people who have not been there it seems like a great getaway place, but as you showed it would be a real hole in the wallet kind of a vacation if one comes with a moderate budget without knowing the score .
The style of the capital building is called Hakonya style, and was made to let the sun, wind, and rain in.

I love interesting architecture. Great information.
Our girls went to makaha elementary, my oldest came back over to teach there... for two years only. It was getting pretty bad
Go see that man, shake his hand, and tell him thank you
I just want to say, thank you for showing us how much your trip cost, I truly appreciate it. Great video like always.
Great presentation Joe and Nic. The plumerias are sure in bloom. Thanks for showing the not tourist areas.

Very emotional seeing the Arizona all these years later.
Thank you for showing us your trip.
aloha kākou (Joe Nic and everyone) so exciting to see Hawaii from your lens.
Thank you, Alexandra!
Yeaaahhh...best to rent the car.
I loved the bus when I was there! Takes you everywhere and the buses are clean and you must stay quiet.
The bus system is terrible in Hawaii. Don't be misleading.
Great advice!
@@pinecone1321 Terrible advice if you plan on doing anything outside of Waikiki / downtown Honolulu.

Great video as always. Everything totaled up probably a 10K trip. Cant wait for your Alaska trip!
Good vid Joe, was there in 86 on the way home from Guam.... What a great memory for me. Carry on
I'm with Nicole. Had too many Spam fritter school dinners. Spam is still sold in some supermarkets here in the UK but not so common as it was in my childhood with more healthy options available😄

Dear Joe and Nic, Thank you so much for showing and telling us all the prices and statistics and everything. Good job on this video.
Your meals look amazing. Thank you for the historical tour. 👍🌟💕

He was also important in Star Trek. Lol.

Definitely gonna scratch Hawaii of my bucket list, thanks for the tour

As a California refuge, I have lived in west Oahu (Ewa Beach) for 20 years. Raised three kids here. Everything is different here, especially the food and people.
What advantage? 😂
Does “mainlanders” mean people from the mainland USA?
@@psychmr2365 Yes There is a very derogatory term that they use for mainlanders. I refuse to repeat it other than to say it’s the “H” word. It has nothing to do with race but it applies to anyone who comes from the mainland. I only felt comfortable around other mainlanders.
I spend a LOT of time in Hawaii. White af. I live near Chicago. I've never experienced outward racism. I know it exists but I've never had it. Best people in the country!
Never been there. Would not want to live in a hi rise. So glad you showed us some houses! All the other sites. Wonderful tour.
I live in a condo near Waikiki. Can’t afford a house here. Might have to move to Texas where my Mom lives in a house 3x the size of my condo. However, my condo costs more than her house. But the weather is great here, especially in the winter and it’s relatively close to Japan where we like to travel.

just watched Boise Idaho at the end there were birds you did not know, they are Canada Geese. it would be nice if you identified some of the trees that you see like some of the palms if they are fruit or the "fake ones" etc. as we don t have those here in Canada.

Loved seeing Hawaii, have always wanted to travel there, but it never eventuated. Holy cow, I was shocked at the airfares, $2765USD ($4,200AUD) from Dallas to Hawaii, that's crazy! Just to compare, return flights from Western Australia to Honolulu per person, flying Qantas, $1,585AUD ($1,050USD), takes approx 16hrs and is just shy of 11,000km (6,800miles)
But the hotel... $4,811USD ($7,297AUD) for 7 nights?
$10K+ USD for a week in Hawaii... That's cuckoo!
We plan on visiting Australia this winter (your summer). I'm hoping it's a bit cheaper!!! :)
If you do a one-stop flight from DFW to HNL it's about have that price, but you will have to spend several hours in LAX, SEA, LAS, or IAH. It's also cheaper to spend a week in Europe than HI. One of the reasons that I haven't been back to HI in 30 years.

Phenomenal episode, Thank yall so much for doing Hawaii.
I've always wondered what it was like.
Blessings from Texas 🙏
Thanks, Cindy!!
Thank you Joe and Nicole for showing Hawaii, that ️I will never see ! 👏 ❤️
Greetings from Russia! 🙃
Our pleasure!
Joe, have you been working out? You're looking pretty buff. Good video. Now that you've shown it to me, I don't need to go. However, would love to go to the Arizona memorial.
I've been working out for years. I mostly wear loose shirts, so you can't usually tell. :)
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip That makes sense then, since we very seldom see you, just hear your voice. Look forward to your Alaska trip.
Great vlog of DT Honolulu and cool old buildings!
Aloha!
Awesome! Thank you!
Good video!
I spent a week in Honolulu during Christmas about 15 years ago. Love the Island and the people. I wish I could afford to retire there.
Spam Sushi 😉Nicole wasn't having it
although her dinner looked
delicious, it's what I would've chose.
The dessert looked fabulous
omg 😋
When you hit the Eastcoast sure hope it's SouthCoast MA ... you'll love all the history !!
New Bedford, (Mobydick) Fairhaven, Cape Cod please come our way !!
Aloha!
Thanks!
Hello, I have been following you for sometime now and really enjoy your videos. We live in the North east of the UK and are fascinated with you showing us the good and bad of the USA. Our area is an old industrial part of the UK so we have similar issues that you see. We are just a lot smaller and a lot more compact. Keep going we are loving it
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi Joe
Thanks for showing this isolated and remote island. Excitement is now about Alaska, another isolated state. Good Luck!
We'll be visiting Alaska in August. :)
Love that Nic dressed up for the occasion!
Aww I love Nicole’s dress. It’s beautiful
Nicole is always comical. I laughed at her so much. Love you guys ❤❤❤❤
I don't think it's intentional.
Hello from N Ireland.Loved the video. Normally watch as soon as you put on TH-cam. Been on holiday for three weeks so now catching up!! Enjoy seeing cost of meals out. Thanks
Thanks for the clear documentary with high quality video.
Nichole looks absolutely stunning in her sun dress!! You are definitely a lucky guy buddy!! Hehehe! Take care my friend
Thanks!
Joe looks good too! Watch out Nichole!! Ha-ha
