Pop-up Surging Curves (A Season in Hell Pop-up Book Making-of)

The mechanical art behind the pop-up interpretation of Arthur Rimbaud’s poem « The Impossible », featured in my new artist’s book « A Season in Hell ».
This is one simple curve and one complex curve, arranged and repeated. Repetition is a good way to give a striking and often overwhelming impression of complexity (remember fractals, kaleidoscopes, phenakistoscopes, etc. - and Warhol!). To harmonize and link the paper shapes and typographic art, I also used curves for the text (on the sides). And although there may be something vegetable about curves, the choice of greens is actually mainly a matter of book flow ; )

L’art mécanique derrière l’interprétation en pop-up du poème d’Arthur Rimbaud « L’Impossible », que vous pouvez retrouver dans mon récent livre d’artiste « Une Saison en enfer ».
C’est une courbe simple et une courbe complexe, arrangées et répétées. La répétition est une façon efficace de donner une impression frappante et souvent xxx de complexité (rappelez-vous les fractales, kaléidoscopes, phenakistiscopes, etc. - et Warhol !). Pour harmoniser et lier les formes de papier et l’art typographique, j’ai également utilisé des courbes pour le texte (sur les côtés). Et bien que les courbes aient peut-être quelque chose de végétal, le choix du vert fut en fait principalement une question de « flow » général du livre ; )
