I worked for my brother in the late 60s driving a WD9 plowing coastal country in Western Australia towing a 14 disc Chamberlain plow, a red flame at night
Comments and questions: I recognize the hydraulic pump you have mounted on the PTO - we used the same unit on our 1953 Super W6. What is a 'super kit'? IH had improved models of the H,M, W6 and W9 in 1953 and 1954 they identified as Super---, is that what you are referring to? Which year is this W9. Is it running on Diesel as you videoed it? Real nice restoration, good sounding engine.
The super kit is thinner sleeves with bigger pistons. The WD-9 normally has a 4.4" bore. The super kit makes it a 4.5" bore. Engine goes from 335 cu.in to 350 cu. in. The Super engines are a bit different with different connecting rods and the bores are larger. They are normally 4.5" bore but with the oversize sleeves and pistons they are 4.625" bore. My Dad has a WD-9 with a super kit.
@@tyfrank3427 My dad's main tractor was a 1953 Super W6, In around 1964, he rebuilt the engine with a M&W kit that increased the bore and raised the compression ratio from stock 4.5:1 to 6.5:1. By also increasing the operational rpms to 1650 instead of 1450 rpm he was able to go from pulling 3x14 plow to 4X16. I think he jumped that engine from around 43 hp to more like 65 hp with those changes.
I was raised on a Wisconsin dairy farm with a WD-9 and, later, a Super WD-9. Both were workhorses that more than earned their keep.
