this week i went to koh samui, a popular island in thailand. i stayed at the cutest resort & spent lots of days by the pool, walking the beach, exploring temples, & visiting cute restaurants. these beautiful days were also met with some rough patches, from feeling lonely to dealing with some racism & weird energy from other (mainly european) tourists. in this vlog, i discuss how traveling solo as a black woman is definitely isn't always rainbows & butterflies, but that experiences like these give me the opportunity to sit with my inner child & alchemize whatever negative energy i experience.

I’m so sorry that you dealt with those disgusting racists 💔 as a fellow black woman that’s one of my fears when it comes to traveling to places that have very few black people. I’ve dealt with enough racism in the US growing up I don’t need to be on vacation and deal with it as well! Good on you for handling it so well and being able to still enjoy yourself in beautiful Thailand 🫶🏾
You act like racists don't travel. Very few locals of wherever you'd want to go to would be racist, but the same racists you'd encounter here in the states, are traveling to other places taking their racism, elitism, envy, and racist ideals. All that to say, would you rather experience racism in the US or beautiful Thailand? None would be best, but until these ppl are wiped off the planet...

just remember racist and miserable people in general, bullies etc. are unhappy people. people like that live for a reaction and misery does love company. ive learned people like that are so empty inside and full of hate that their own minds torture them. no point in getting into it with them. they already on the deep end

Calling someone a monkey is the lamest insult. Just focus on higher things and be in the present. Those people saw something beautiful in you and their demons wanted to tear you apart. They had an issue with themselves and they've got nothing on you😉 stay blessed and keep slaying!
Another note: Monkeys are absolutely lovely and beautiful animals and definitely more intelligent than those people that call us those names or any other racial slurs.

I LIVE IN SHANGHAI, I MOVED HERE LIKE EIGHT MONTHS AGO AND THE ONLY RACIST EXPERIENCES I'VE HAD WERE WITH EUROPEAN PEOPLE. it's so funny because people in America always ask me if Chinese people are racist too lol!! Like no they are respectfully curious or even scared to approach me. If they do they just ask me why I'm here and why my Chinese is good. IT'S ALWAYS THE EUROPEANS.

Europeans are super racist, even more than Americans at times. No one calls them out and people still sell the idea that most countries in Europe are dreamlands
As a Thai person currently living in Bangkok but grew up in Austin, Texas, Thai people are very polite and considerate. At first I thought some dumb Thai person was being racist to you because that is very uncharacteristic of them. I hope the Thais you meet along your journey in Thailand treats you like the Queen that you are. All will be well with you, be safe and make wonderful memories!
Every local I have met here has been so kind & enjoyable to talk to! So despite the weirdness from other tourists I am still so glad to be here & grateful for the hospitality I have received from the Thai people I have met so far❤️
Also got racist comments in Thailand from a Chinese Hong Kong tourist at our hotel front desk. My husband (then fiancé) is Chinese Malaysian and heard and saw the racist comments. I was oblivious! I’m a black woman from Jamaica. Did not pay the racist any attention. Kept it moving. Enjoyed Bangkok ❤

As a black brother I sympathize with you, I experienced similar discrimination in my earlier life. Many descendants of Europe have a lot of hate in them. It doesn’t matter where they go they carry it with them every where. I advice you not to travel alone. It could be very dangerous for a beautiful black woman. Don’t worry about these people just keep doing you, and be safe and vigilant out there. 😎✌🏽

When people are racist at you what they want is to see a triggered reaction; they want to see your joy turn to sadness, irritation, anger, etc.. Remember, to let your joy, confidence, and humor take up space in those moments.
The guy probably wanted to have a reason to look at you and get your attention bc he saw youre pretty and to make his girl feel better about herself. I always find people who resort to racism are insecure and feel threatened by someone who is doing better and looking better Than them. Who goes out of their way to hate on someone based on their skin color? Thats so childish and sick.

When I was in Thailand I took a cooking class and encountered 3 racist Karen’s from Arizona. They were being so rude to the host mom and making racist jokes about China not knowing I have Chinese descent and it was so uncomfortable. I’m so sorry this happened to you sending love ❤

If you are still in the islands and want the most life changing experience I highly suggest going to Indriya. It’s a donation based vipasana retreat and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. I’ve done lots of workshops and plant medicine but NOTHING compared.
