Absolutely has to be one of my favorite jets - first flown in 57 and for a 2nd generation not only able to compete with America's 3rd F-4 Phantom but still flying to this days for at least thirty nations and being the most vastly produced jet - record speaks for itself. Simple, cheap, reliable and good all around Russian product at its finest even by western interpretation of Soviet standards. This single seater as well as two seater versions have proved beyond their years of still being formidable and frankly decisive...for example Syria fight against ISIS. Great post of a fine aircraft!
@@SenkaBandit I’m not update on that one but from what I read the AKM is the latest and greatest. That AK- Family of guns is probably the over all best military assault rifle ever made. It’s just built for the soldier that needs a dependable weapon that he can count on. It’s a good design. The best.
@@kkenneth100 akm was first made in 1959 and is one of the most produced rifles in history. While not being the latest or greatest imo, there’s still better and more modern alternatives out there like 5.56 rifles or the AK-74 which has a lighter and faster 5.45x39mm cartridge

Nicely done on this vid of a milk run with a J-7. The area around the gunsight is quite crowded, especially with the camera peering through the reflector close to where one would expect the boresight marker. Did this particular example get a dual-trigger stick grip retrofit? (I know the latest Russian types to pack a stores trigger, here shown retracted, and a separate gun trigger, which the stores trigger guards during a bomb drop or missile shoot.) Incidentally, OKB Mikojana-Gurjevnogo, back in Russia, has done some work to restore some of the six-o'-clock visibility lost in the MiG-21M through -21bis when the fat dorsal fairing was added for avionics space; the -21bisSP and -21bisSM (Mods 92 and 93, respectively) have a raised cockpit with a canopy backported from the MiG-29/35 family.
Must have used a Soviet-era 60/120p video camera to film this. Probably came originally with the airplane - along with two sets of keys and the maintenance schedule. Nothing like staying authentic.

+SanFranciscoBay i bet better canopies were a huge motivation for future designs (the rear of this one completely obscures the rear of the plane, and, in that respect, somewhat downgrades the previous mig planes)
They don't need much forward vision to spot a B-52 bomber up ahead of you. Radar was supposed to deal with that stuff by the time this was designed anyway; it was intended to shoot own bombers. It's an interceptor, not a dogfighter. As for rear visibility, it was hard to look over your shoulder while wearing a pressure suit anyway. Future fighters had better visibility, but I wouldn't say it was inspired by the MiG-21's lack of it; later Soviet jets like the MiG-23, etc, weren't much better, and even the US wasn't great until the F-15-era programs. An F-4 is a far cry from an F-16 in forward visibility.
And note that this video makes it look worse than it is; the Gopro is mounted above his head, so you're looking right into the canopy framing. Normally, you'd be looking under it, so only the very upper part of your line of sight is effected. This is kind of like someone driving a car with a headcam...you're going to see the sunvisor right ahead of you and roof filling the upper half of the screen, where from 6 inches lower, you hardly notice it.
To think Wg.Cmdr. Abhinandan was forced to intercept PAF jets in this rust bucket is absolutely shambolic on the part us Indians. Yes, we've downed an F-16 but it was only due to sheer luck! We would've lost Abhinandan had been otherwise. No negotiations, these birds had their time, now they're just rust buckets and MUST BE TAKEN OFF!
Wouldn't this be a J-7, rather than a MiG-21, to be pedantic? In any case, you realize that the flying time shown in this video would be enough to burn up about 20% of the MiG-21's fuel load? The only real weakness the MiG-21 had; its engine was too big for its fuel tanks!
This isn't even that bad. You can actually see out the front, it's just a crowded view. There are lots of planes that you effectively can't see out the front, nothing but sky anyway. Think of all those old radial engine planes. When you are landing you are nose high, you came see shit. You do most of your looking out the side, you get good at lining up based on what you see before you turn in, them you sideslip to make sure everything is good. Luckily the runway is wide and straight and won't move, and as long as no one blocks it while you are doing your final glide in you don't really need to see it. In the air it just doesn't matter. Honestly if you were in a car and knew the road ahead was wide and straight and empty, it wouldn't be that hard to drive by what you can see out the side window. If you are nervous, do an S every now and then so you can see you the road.
Indos aren't flying these coffins but rather falling these junkies off the skies... better for Indos if they should use these shit beds as cabs on the roads

I think most Asian nations use Arabic numerals like we do, at least for aviation, because they are easier to read at a glance than Chinese or Japanese numbers are. I know that's true for Japan anyway. Look at Japanese fighters in WWII, the markings are always a mixture of Japanese characters and Arabic numbers.
Numbers are universal. Particularly for speed and safety. No one writes out or spells numbers when the symbol will do. Math and counting systems don’t need translation. 22. = twenty two in English and urshi’ urh In pinyin mandarin

i love the mig 21, but you clearly don't have a clue about dogfighting and bfm. An f16 will out turn the 21 after the merge, it's no match, it's a matter of G pulling and raw power. The mig airframe doesnt handle the stress very well and the aircraft is pretty unforgiving,

For those of you who don’t know apparently an Indian miG-21 shot down a Pakistani F-16 when Pakistan was trying to do a bombing attack on Indian territory after India did a air strike in Pakistani territory to destroy a terrorist base, which did an attack on Indian ground troops in Kashmir. While maybe the Pakistani pilot was inexperienced in flying F-16s or maybe the Indian pilot had lots of flying experience may have interfered with the results, in conclusion, yes a miG-21 is a match for a F-16.
When you see it from this POV it really brings to life the fact you are just a cockpit strapped to an engine with some metal between you and the sky.
This, doesn’t bring a smile to my face.
