They put unaired footage in a background of a podcast that wasnt anything important just a chill video, but the background clips contained big key plot stuff, limiting peoples speculations to one finite point due to what occurs in it. Eg Imagine if the original Trilogy star wars promo for the 2nd movie showed Darth Vader killing the emperor. A spoiler that was way down line.. any speculation of what happens now will all lead to Darth Vader killing the Emperor.

I think people are kind of overreacting about this leak. Yes it is a BIG deal and does spoil some massive points later on (sadly) but I've heard people saying things like "this has totally ruined the show" or "I'm not watching anymore" which I think is a quite a bit over exaggerated

No, you are. Even subjectively-vague key words like "dream sequence" carry connotations and implications as to the nature of the thing. Even what I did, which is to basically say "saw it coming" is technically towing the line. Either talk about it in full or respect the content creator's wishes by not talking about it at all--you can't have it both ways, and half-hearted efforts are only going to undermine the whole effort.
Also, I could go into depth about why Wil is wrong, but I'm not going to. Just...I've seen this line of reasoning in fan speculation before, and it never ends well.

I can see how the comment could soil the experience, but I'm keeping it up because it doesn't outright spoil the _thing._ It was more just an assumption that could be applied to a fair number of situations, but I respect how you and the content creator say it should be.

I have only been trying to find out what happened. Most videos and links lead to the actual spoilers, which were still clearly flagged. SU is the only series on TV we currently watch and Cartoon Network has a lot of shows that are liked because they are serialized storylines, but don't them as such.
Like "Teen Titans GO", they seem to treat them as "sneak peeks" at future content, rather than spoilers.
Its just not one of those shows that with.
Imagine if CN handled "Infinity War" trailer and just showed "sneak peeks" of the last 10 minutes of the movie. They need to really grasp what they have and that playing their cards close to their chest is what people will appreciate.
Hitting on something you said in the video, I really appreciate you and channels like you doing what you do. You may have downplayed your role in keeping up interest in the show, but based on my experience and the experiences of my friends who also watch SU, without channels like yours I probably would have been pretty over the show with all the hiatuses, so thanks for doing what you’re doing, you’re keeping the dream alive!

I think I know which one was the biggest problem. The fact that we saw certain people without any context at all as to why they were there, especially because they seem not to appear in the short-term, that really pissed people off. Cartoon Network has had leaks for shows before, but this was like...the iceberg for the fricken Titanic.

I accidentally saw it right after it was released because someone posted the clip with a vague title. It was so strange I thought it must be fan made at first, so it's nice that you don't spoil it for those who didn't see it)
I don't think attacking specific people will help resolve the issue, but it's important to talk about the fact that something needs to change.

See this is why I love this channel. I carelessly clicked on someone's Steven Universe video because the thumbnail said "It's Over!" and I was afraid they'd cancelled the show and the creator was upset about the spoilers... while running the spoilers in the background on repeat 😒 So I was very upset because I wouldn't have even seen them if it weren't for him. I really appreciate your ability to address the subject objectively without ruining someone else's experience. Also the clips of Steven Universe you chose to go with your words were hilariously fitting
Thank you so much for this video being spoiler free, Su theorists are some of my favorite channels and I live and breathe for the stuff that leaks like, a week before an episode airs, because that’s fun and I feel like it’s harmless. But as soon as “series ruining spoilers” started popping up in my feed, I had to start avoiding my favorite channels like the plague because I really don’t want the series ruined for me, and I couldn’t look up what was happening for fear of seeing said spoilers. I’m very thankful of this video because now I know that I really do want to avoid those kinds of videos because from what you have said, a plot point from pretty far down the line has been revealed and I don’t want to see it. That’s more than a harmless little leak a week before an episode airs to rip apart and analyze. I’m rambling now, but I’m scared to even look into the comments now for fear of spoilers. I just hope I don’t have to be avoiding these channels for to long, I want this to blow over

Man, I was really surprised that they went with Steven and all 4 Diamonds having a fivesome on the battlefield while Amethyst and Peridot were berating the people watching at home for wasting 8+ years of their lives on a cartoon about Crying Alien Rocks. A very strong artistic choice, one that I can't be mad at them for. Still don't know how it got past the sensors.

What if White Diamond isn't the original gem and Paragon (the perfect diamond) is however she got bored and decided to create White Diamond however White Diamond became defective and shattered Paragon, forming Blue and Yellow Diamond out of her fragments before using the remainder to form her court.
There is not much proves for that though.

Hey after going back. I just realized when pearl song “It’s over” she went into an extreme detail of her meeting rose quartz. She said “Reinvention” and lastly “Freedom” so maybe she was remade and then she finally got her freedoms.
This was a perfect video to address what happened. Like you, I'm not all that jazzed for what I saw in the leaks, but for now, I'm not at a point where I'm done with the show. Obviously, I'm looking forward to the new special tomorrow and to see where the rest of the season and show plan to go. And if SU is anything like a normal TV show (which, for this purpose, it is), just because we were shown these scenes doesn't mean they're a part of any upcoming episodes. Granted, in live action TV and film, scenes are shot, but sometimes aren't used; not sure if that's the same in animation, though scripts change and lines change before the actual designs are put in.
As a content creator as part of my job, I totally know what it's like to take on the blame for something that wasn't truly my fault. Every job, sadly, will often have management problems and those problems are what create workplace environments that are chaotic or where management doesn't take responsibility for actions that have hurt their consumers. The fact that this is not the first time CN has done something like this is troubling because it means management/executive suite either 1. don't know what's happening, 2. don't care what's happening, or 3. 1+2, along with a lack of understanding as to why this is an issue.
I read a comment on another video that may explain the above, which is CN isn't used to having a show that is so tied in with an overall backstory and continuity. Now, on one hand I could understand that, but on the other, 1. they HAVE had shows like that before and 2. that shouldn't be an excuse. A simple overview of the show, by the creator herself, should have clued them in that this show has a lot of episodes that tie in together and spoilers/leaks ruin the overall goal. Again, if CN executives have no idea what any of their shows are about outside of numbers, than that is a huge problem because it means they have no understanding as to WHY a show is doing well or NOT doing well.
But let's be honest - we can all bitch and moan about this and it won't do any good. The show still has fans and we're still gonna watch. Unless the show makes a series jump the shark moment - and even if it did - CN is still going to see steady viewership, which means numbers for them, which means money, money, money. And as long as there's $$$, they could release the series grand finale next week and not be hurt.

Personally I don't understand why some people are so upset because even through i dislike the show SU I always knew it was about characters and not action so (that scene not saying which one) was an inevitability in my eyes. It was something I thought we all saw coming

I appreciate the spoiler free video Slice. Just out of curiosity, I checked into it because I honestly don't care much about spoilers anymore. Definitely odd, but i'm still interested to see context to the situation. But yeah, HUUUUGE fail on the network's part letting something this huge slip past their radar. For those interested in checking out the leaked images, do so quietly and PLEASE don't spoil it for other viewers. Nothing's worse that going about your day and realizing the ending to your favorite show is ruined forever.

I've said this in other videos but I'll say it again.
people take spoilers way to seriously. I still enjoy the shows I've seen multiple times despite knowing every detail of what happens, how is a spoiler any different? I actually find myself being less critical of shows when I know what's going to happen than when I don't. so I tend to not avoid spoilers for anything because it has no effect on my disliking something. the best shows are the ones where you can go in knowing everything and still notice something new each time. Steven Universe is a complex enough show that no matter the end, the journey there will be an interesting one. we don't know the details, and that's enough for me to still enjoy it.
Lol Phan yeah that your opinion and you're free to have it, but it doesn't justify spoilers. Just as you enjoy knowing what's going to happen, others like to be surprised about the next major event or even the ending of a story, or piece of media. So you can't say that people take spoilers too seriously. You don't get to make that decision that people should just be okay with it.
Joey Gomes no people aren't being immature about this. Just because you don't mind being spoiled doesn't mean others share that same thought process. That's just a fact. So people don't like to know how a story will end. They like to be surprised. You can't do that if your spoiled. That messes with your experience. The event being spoiled could have so much more impact if you didn't see it coming.
Dragon Emperor Ryuga I don't think spoilers are ok necessarily, it's just when they do happen, to me it's not something to get worked up about. and I don't go searching for spoilers, I just don't run when I get exposed.
I totally understand where people are coming from, the first experience will be the only first. so, it is no excuse of cartoon network to have done this. what I think people are blowing out of per-portion is the idea that this ruined the show or that they can't enjoy the show anymore now because of it, and then claiming this will be the end of the show and it's going to get canceled. that to me seems silly. because there is so much context and details left in mystery worth discussing. I won't say anything specific about the spoiler, but I don't think it was very surprising. kinda predictable if you ask me, after all this is Steven Universe.
Lol Phan oh yeah, the cancellation part is just ridiculous. And yeah the spoiler doesn't really kill the experience. Might make it a little less of an impact but if it's executed well, even a predictable point in the story can still be enjoyable. So in that aspect people really do have to calm down as you say.

Well said, this whole situation is being painted as the end of the world. Glad you're level headed about it all.
What I'm curious about is that- if this really is part of the real Climax to Steven Universe, than why has the release schedule been so hectic and widespread? Also despite this major bump in the road, I'd like to stay positive and believe this show can still offer plenty of surprises and enjoyment. I know I'll still be watching all yours and other theory vids in the future.

I am a hardcore Steven Universe fan. I have been doing my best to stay away from leaks, and hints. But, CN has had a history of doing this sort of thing with their TV shows. They did it with Adventure Time, and the finaly of Regular Show. I personally have not seen this leak, and I'm glad I haven't. Steven Universe is more than just a show for me like you stated SliceofOtaku. I love your videos, and you are a awesome person. But sometimes with bigger companies, like CN, for example, the communication is lost since they do have to go through may people. I'm glad that some of the developers mentioned that they did not approve of those leaks, but that also means that CN needs to up their game with communication. I have been waiting a long time for these new episodes. (I have them set to record just in case I miss them) but Steven Universe to me is a show that will never grow old. It has helped me through many things. But again, you are awesome. 😊

I felt the same about spoilers related to miraculous Ladybug that go until season 3 when I waited so long with such excitement for season 2. I read forums everyday but now I can’t go as far as page 1 without the spoiler being plastered everywhere. Luckily the show has do many merits and other stuff going on I can still enjoy it unlike Steven Universe that’s heavily plot and twist driven

A good way to look at this is like, seeing a review, clipshow, or random episode of a show or movie long completed, and going back to watch it from the start. People acting like it's "ruined" aren't considering the fact so few of us enter Steven Universe 100% blind.
I started watching around Jailbreak, but it didn't "ruin" the episode Ocean Gem just because I knew what happened to Lapis.
They are probably same people who make outcry that Twilight get wings..

There was *NO WAY* this was an accident. Cartoon Network knows this is a story driven show. They knew that the specific clips they chose were not only from unreleased episodes, but depictions of groundbreaking events. There is *NO WAY* Rebecca or the Crew gave them permission to use those clips. The anger Is *COMPLETELY JUSTIFIED.* If this were my intellectual property I would pull their network rights in an instant and file against them in court. It's absolutely ridiculous how this show has been treated by Cartoon Network and in my opinion this is the straw that broke the camel's back. It's not a fucking one time thing.

I like the leaks it reminds me of romeo and juliet when they tell you what happens but how they got to that point is beyond the reader/watcher at the time
