      @@MrRudvant there is written that chopin used to play the piano too softly, his forte is the piano of other composers like liszt, so idk of Rubinstein is the real chopin but a magnificent pianist

    • @ericwortman3180
      @ericwortman3180 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@francu125 played softer than other pianists because his physical strength didn't allow him to. He complained that he would never hear much of his music to his liking in his own lifetime - for various reasons. He couldn't sustain a big sound himself. Other pianists couldn't play tenderly enough. Still others, like Liszt, too many liberties with his music.

    • @francu125
      @francu125 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      @@ericwortman3180 bro, anyone can play a few pieces loudly, he wasnt that weak and his hands were medium size but they were flexible to the point that when he streched his hands he could reach a 10th easy, so imagine how much force he could produce.
      Tiny female pianists can give a lot of volume, do you think he played softly becouse of lack of strenght???
      I like playing softly too

      You can start by imagining: (1) how someone might decorate a favorite popular song melody; (2) how Chopin decorates his melody; (3) how Rubinstein realizes Chopin's work. By doing Stage (1) you can then experience the artistry in Stages (2) & (3).

  • @robthompson384

    I think this performance displays a characteristic which seems all but lost these days; tenderness. It's as if we're afraid of the thing, no doubt because it equals 'weakness' in some contexts. Neither Chopin nor Rubinstein thought so; and neither do I. Wonderful.

      Rob, please listen to the Rachmaninov recording of this Nocturne (forgiving the surface noise), and you'll hear an equally good performance with some subtle differences. Romantic pianists of this calibre are a rare species today.

    This is the sound of pure, youthful happiness. It reminds me of the times of being a little boy without a care in the world. The curiosity and blissful ignorance of the world around me was unparallelled in any other time in my life. Rubinstein was always youthful at heart and a man of great happiness and I feel as if that is what every person should strive to be known for. This is a song I will never forget and will always hold close to my heart. Absolutely delightful!

      As a funny sidenote: on the clavichord that is actually how you produce vibrato (shaking the keys) haha, but you probably already knew that.
