@@Gogalen789 A good person doesn't do someone as dirty as he did Mo. Babcock's ego was outsized and he got too full of himself. He also used public shaming which has never been productive but Babcock gets credit for doing things he didn't actually do. He won one Cup with an overly talented team, mostly getting ousted by lesser teams in the playoffs. He put Modano in the lineup for 1500 then pulled him before the game. You misunderstand and misconstrue Babcock, not the people who criticize him.

So you get to see a great vantage point of their skating ability and how they pivot etc. when behind the net or in the corner! Was researching Mo's production in his first 83 career games to compare to Jason Robertson, who as of his writing had an incredible two-goal, three-point game including the game winner against BUF and is up to 81 points in 83 games despite being criminally underused for his first 20ish career games. End up finding this incredible video which was a treat to watch all on its own, so thanks for doing this! But do you happen to know who his primary linemates were in his rookie year? Hockey-Reference says he apparently played much of the season at wing, but I can't tell from the team's H-R page if he played with Bellows & Broten or maybe on the second line with Gagner (what a top six that would've been with those four as its core!)
Info about linemates in the old days is sadly hard to come by, usually you can use ATOI to get a clear picture of the top six at least but ATOI wasn't available this far back.

Late in game 6 of the 91 Cup finals Bill Clement said "take a good look at those Northstars jerseys and logos because they are going away next season".
But the Northstars name, logo, and jerseys were the best. My favorites were what they wore in 1981. And the Mild, er Wild did great picking that look for their reverse retro jerseys.

If he didn’t play in the trap era under a super defensive head coach in Hitch, his offensive numbers would have been very impressive, comparable to Sakic’s, maybe better. 05:43 I'm shocked you never mentioned that, yes, Modano was a good 2-way forward by the end of the 90s, but it was Ken Hitchcock that came into Dallas and benched him and forced him to develop his defensive game because he was notorious for NOT playing a 2-way game prior to that.

MN born and raised. Started watching the North Stars in the early 80's. Was really bummed when Norm Green took them away. For whatever reason, I was never a Modano fan. Had nothing to do with his skill. I think of it like Mickey Rourke's character in "Barfly", when he said "it's not that I don't like people, I just feel better when they're not around". Modano reminds me of some fellow high school jocks that I steered clear of.
He was a very talented player, and deserves better than what Babcock handed him, although 1499 is a really cool number. He's probably a great guy that does not deserve my petty judgement.

My stepfather played with him in Lovonia. I played at this westland arena growing up. I was also born in Texas and have family that lived out there dumber what year we went to their practice rink and I snuck into their locker room. And Darcy Walkaluk was yelling at me and he came up And made him apologize & the entire team sign a piece of paper for me. These are the nicest guys ever I was like 8 at the time a moment i will never forget and always have to tell

Funny thing..Once (while I was working in a call center, about 15 years ago) Someone called in from Livonia, Michigan..So I said "Hey no way, Mike Modano's my favorite player!" and no joke, they were like, "Who?"..They honest to god had no idea who Mike freakin Modano was...That baffled me. Like, how many star pro athletes are from there? Probably 1.

@@ThomB1031 Word is the NHL Commissioner's Office called in and said to allow it, but that's only a rumor to my knowledge. It was too important a time for the stupid rule to mess things up, but it was the rule, so there's a legitimate gripe. Definitely a retcon.

Man, when Modano got hit, the stretchered him off the ice, and when they were moving him into the ambulance, they dropped the stretcher.
That story aside, what a player! Blazing speed, big time shot, great playmaker...however he left a lot to be desired as well because he did not have any huge seasons.
