One small note on the video for those who haven't played Signalis yet: Scott has included footage from a 3rd person mod to the game, whereas the vanilla version is strictly isometric.
Except for some excellent scripted first-person segments. 😉👉
Bump this higher, just in case newcomers might get the wrong impression! It is, in fact, a mod, and not the vanilla experience. I strongly urge people to pick this game up regardless, it's very good.

@@MarkoIronFistWith the Autumn Sale making the gaming cheaper already I don't see this as necessary. Not to mention that I'm not the biggest fan of cheaping out when it comes to small indie games like this one, the developers made an amazing game and they deserve every cent.

Signalis is a game with the most soul destroying story and the most schizophrenically wholesome fanbase.
Reminds me of that one smut comic where the girl has one of the most awful lives possible. The Fandom then preceeded to turn incredibly wholesome and write fanfics about her being saved or living a good life. Perhaps this is a really strange pattern?

My favorite part about this game is that it specifically hints that equipping heal items lets them automatically be used when near-death, which is nice for learning boss attacks and all that or running around ammo-less, but if you actually *do* that, the game calls you a big fat cheater at the stats screen. 🍷🗿
iirc the 'death cheated' counter is actually about using the push to interrupt enemy attacks just before they hit you, but I'm not 100% certain
@Oldage429 in the game. if you reach the lowest health value, Critical, and avoid getting hit for long enough, it bumps you back up to Danger. Surviving on Critical, either through Natural Regeneration or Autoinjektors is what "Deaths Cheated" means, and if you do this at least 8 times, the game adds one point to the Promise ending, meaning you're more likely to get that ending specifically.
Given that the Promise ending is arguably the best ending, not counting the secret Artifact ending, cheating death is actually a good thing.

Sounds more like classic Resident Evil based on the impressions I got from this review, but that’s still cool. I imagine it’s basically impossible to top Silent Hill 2 in particular.

Im so happy more people are giving this game attention. Its a genuinely beautiful game and a disturbing horror once the story starts to ramp up.
Do you remember the Promise we made? Nothing like the instructions the empire left for you after a certain amount of time in that ship left me with greater rage, truly fantastic placement of lines to tell you how that gameworld was built.

Literally found out about this game recently, how did i miss a masterpiece like this is beyond me.
Cigarette Wife is already one of my new fav video game tracks.
Signalis comes from the Evangelion school of storytelling- plenty of lore, but it's really hard to tell what's actually going on.
Last year, I played Signalis for about 3ish hours and enjoyed it, but unfortunately, I did not have a lot of time to sit down and play any games the end of 2022. A year later, I decided since it was Oct 2023 to play a spooky/horror kind of game and Signalis was at the top of the list.
The 1.2 update with the increased inventory size to 8 and the flashlight not taking up an inventory slot was such a breath of fresh air because honestly that was my one critique about the game. There's so many key items that backtracking was constant, I'd pick up an item and immediately keep going back and forth to the save room to deposit items and felt it broke up the flow in an unnecessary manner.
I finished Signalis about 2wks ago and I can say that this game went immediately to my top 10 list of all-time.
This game was quite fun. The story stuck with me for quite a while after I played :)

I was not expecting Max0r-esque editing here, but not bad! Loved Signalis, just finished it last night. Gotta say, this Side of Salt lacked the salt, and I'm not complaining. Seeing you just enjoy stuff is awesome.

I finished this game recently. And I've seen many people talk about this game more and more. And this game Took my heart at Ransom, gave it back brutally damaged. And only memes and wholesome animations to fill in the massive Hole the game gave me.

I usually hate horror but signalis is so damn good. Definitely helps that its mostly atmospherically spooky and unsettling instead of having jumpscares and whatnot
The thing _Signalis_ excells at probably above anything else is the lore. Read everything you can about the lore and play the game mutliple times if you want to get the most out of it.
You're not really supposed to figure out what's happening, but it's really fun to try.

Good video! The editing is really good and I really like some of the transitions. I am a bit confused on how much of footage from the game is in third person though. Unless there was an option added for it recently, its gonna feel pretty misleading for non modders and console players.

Signalis is easily one of my favorite game experiences that I've had this year, and given it's only $20 (on sale right now) it's easily worth it.
The story, setting and universe are also fantastic. Super engaging to theory craft about.

About the Thermite/Crimson method of permantly killing monster that come back to life after a while.:
Im actually not 100% sure on why that wasnt done again, but I have to imagine that this method would get frustating after a while if you think about it... plus in most cases, you might get good at dodging and running past enemies, so you save up on inventory space for more important items. This was likely a reason why it isnt used anymore, since players early in the game will find a way to dodge danger, and late game theyll have ammo spilling out of their pockets, alongside whatever explosives they have in their shirt pockets.
In addition, this item only really has use IF you have to go back and foward in a specific area, wich become less usefull if the area was:
- Really wide meaning you can run around it
- Has alternative paths that are less dangerous
- the area is part of a really linear horror game, so there isnt really a reason to go back and forth if you only have to move foward.

On the inventory slot thing I argue it adds more than detracts if your not so hard pressed on having everything when moving around. Maybe take a shotgun and ammo and avoid most fights, maybe bring a pistol and health and max stun batons and just tank through some enemies, maybe bring a extra bit of ammo sacrificing that slot if you dont need a flash light or something. I say their is not really a good reason to not have 3 open slots minimum in a given time as long as you are changing your playstyle to suit what you have. Also never use the camera, bait item pen and paper cost no inventory slots xD
Other than changing the inventory, does anyone know if there's a way to adjust the difficulty? This looks like an interesting play, and folks are saying the story is good, but my skills aren't as sharp as they were in my younger days.
There's a casual mode that makes it very easy. Even the normal mode is very very tame by survival horror standards. As in, you can blast down every single enemy in the game and still have ammo to spare when the credits roll.
i want to play this game now and also i LOVE how scott's avatar went like sonic from "classic" to "modern" if you get what i mean LOL
