I worked for BNSF here in Seattle for 11 years as a Conductor/Switchman/Brakeman and I love the details of these simulators. I really loved working in the yards here as a hostler pilot. My shift partner ran the locos while I primarily worked on the ground as we built and air brake tested locos for outbounds, delivered them between the yards and roundhouse within the terminal.
Great vid Blu. Run 8 is about as close as it gets if you are wanting something close to real life running and ops. Also, about the 23-mph speed limit over the pass. If I remember correctly 23 was part of an agreement between the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific back in the day. One railroad wanted a 20-mph speed limit, the other wanted 25 so they split the difference.
@@BluGames Haha right! There's lots of wheeling and dealing between railroads. On one of the routes I worked IRL the L&N had a level crossing with the Southern. Originally L&N had control of the diamond but when they got in a financial pinch, they offered control of the diamond to the Southern. The caveat was the Southern took over the maint cost as well, which included several moveable point frog switches which were super expensive to maintain. Southern agreed and it's the NS's diamond to this day.
Always remember to bail that engine brake off when making a set with the automatic brake. With 3 on the point and 3 in the middle, it can cause you to rip the train apart. Most of the time, when i DB, it will automatically bail for ya. But sometimes it won't, so it's a good practice to bail that brake even when in DB. You can check that using the left shift or left Ctrl B. I was the one whit Shaun that was helping get your train tied down on the OC. If you ever have any questions, shoot me a message.
Great video Blu! I was a former conductor for BNSF from 2000-2006 and worked on the San Bernardino Sub, Alameda Sub and Cajon Sub. Really brought back memories for me as you left Barstow Yard. Run 8 looks amazing! Thanks for the video and bringing back wonderful memories for me!
I for years thought this was stupid. But lately with MSFS having the whole dam world modeled in detail and MSFS 2024 nearing release I wonder if a train sim will explode with full realistic lines across the whole USA or Europe or wherever.
I hope to see the day both are played in the same virtual world; add in the truck simmers too. Could have a whole economy based around moving goods from trucks to trains to planes.
Any time you are moving you should have your headlights on bright/aux. example for when you were in the yard. If you have them on dim it could be mistaken for the end of the train like in a DP scenario. Great video, might have to try this sim out!!
I’ve been a Depot Member since 2016 and I work for a railroad. I’m pretty sure I saw you on the OC when you made this video! This sim by far is the most realistic out there. I like how you said that you are one piece of a large puzzle, it is a great analogy. Lastly I think you did a great job showcasing the sim as well as telling everyone how awesome The Depot is!
wow man, i found about this game today, and already i love it!, i will be looking forward to buy it in near future, but i will have a lot to learn about controls in that game
looks so good... but I cannot yet drive a US freight train even in TSW, let alone in sth as detailed as this :) ... but so satisfying watching someone who can do this :)
@@BluGames and a whole lot of studying stuff... without some nice pdf, manual or sth, there is only so much one can do... I mean, I know what the brakes are for, but you also need to know how much force to apply when starting, speeding, how to set up the locos, brakes in each... etc.. oh, and how to work with all the data - in TSW you dont even have hp per ton and such PTC stuff there is BR 101 Expert (a German IC/EC/highspeed loco) + cab car, done on a similar level like what you have shown... and there is like 120 pg manual coming for that :D ... so if I can get through THAT, I might look into US freight again :D
Not bad you understand how slack works but there is no normal position for switches in the yard that’s on you overall not bad you understand how to use your counter too and how speeds apply
Run 8 is designed to be extremely accurate on physics. It’s a lot more difficult to master than TSW and might be frustrating to someone who just wants to run the train. I remember my first go i wound up snapping a couple couplers and had a lot of trouble starting uphill. TSW has a lot better graphics than run 8 and also better sound, it’s a matter of pretty to look at and very accurate rolling stock vs the physics of run 8
Have a look in the description and follow the link to his train sim setup, and bring your money with you😄 Agree the graphics are first rate, probably as good as I have seen, but his rig is top shelf so to be expected.
Didn’t even know the game existed till now looks fun just have one question are you able to run a complete cold start or can you only start from that menu?
I wonder why someone can’t make a train sim thats the entire US, ai or multiplayer, use the data from msfs, or better, have the entire US around rail roads modeled. I know it would be a huge game but with all the data we have in 2024, it wouldn’t be that hard to do
That would be A LOT…and I mean A LOT of trackage. I don’t know much about making sims and games. But can one game contain that much data? It would have to be broken up into regions. East, west, and Midwest, where the Midwest region would feature every railroad
Great to see Run8 on the channel
I been wanting to for a long time! Thanks so much man. Hopefully we can do a run together in one of these sims

wtf i had no idea train sim nerds were this close to us flight sim nerds holy shit. wild af that they have control setups for this

Thank you for another great video. You are doing an awesome job and I love watching.
This game is amazing so realistic love the video hope to see more of this train game 😊
Your train sims are my favorite.
@BluGames Pls do more run 8 ♥️
Thank you i will
Yes please people need to know about run 8
“Tehachapi Loop.” See also “Williams Loop” on the old Western Pacific route through the Feather River Canyon.
Run8 is my favorite. TDW rarely sees any action on my PC.
Nice video BNSF
I'm SOLD and currently downloading! Getting tired of flying everywhere 😉
This is probably the most realistic Train Simulator woohoo ❤
Haha
It’s not OPINION about it, it IS the best simulator and the most realism amongst any simulator dedicated to train operation.

Toda esa gran variedad de vagones hacen que sea muy realista. Aprende eso train sim World
Make sure you have those headlights all the way on
