OP should have waited, it was clearly a prank and it is wrong to just start giving things away without knowing who they belong to. Not knowing who they belong to is the worst excuse for just giving stuff away. To call herself a “victim” of a benign prank is a dramatic deflection of the fact that she gave away stuff that didn’t belong to her when her boyfriend was exhibiting a sense of humor. Holding onto the gnomes would not have hurt her in any way so it makes me wonder why she was in such a rush to give away that which she knew was not hers.
Maybe the bf should have confessed. I mean what did he expect? Her to keep 50+ gnomes in her garage? I would've sold them too. Plus, if he's willing to take something dear to his sister for a prank, maybe he should've pranked someone else, though any sane person would most likely sell them too. Just because they didn't belong to her doesn't mean anything. If he wasn't prepared for the consequences that's his fault, and not at all OP's. Not to mention the boyfriend said she broke into his sister's storage unit. Yes, I agree maybe she should've kept track of the people she sold them to, but the people she sold the gnomes to gave them away. That's not something she can control. Maybe the boyfriends sister should've taken many more precautions and a better storage unit.
If you abandon multiple unwanted items at a persons home for FOUR WHOLE WEEKS, then that means you don’t care about the items enough to get them back. People like you are the reason why narcissists do what they do, how are you gonna justify the boyfriend being negligent when he was the one who did something he shouldn’t have done? He STOLE them and pranked his girlfriend, then lied about it for weeks. Any normal person would’ve either gotten rid of them, or KEEP THEM FOR THEMSELVES
If someone leaves something at my house for weeks without returning for it, I’m assuming it’s not very important to them since they haven’t received it for so long, and it very well could end up in the trash. Not like she rushed to sell them off almost like you’re trying to make it sound.

For 2 months? Would you be willing to pwy someone for 2 months worth of storage?
