      Yeah, the scenario in this video is very much like the scene out of Clear and Present Danger. The lasing of cartel’s house by a special forces team. The only different is the downing of helicopter which was not part of the movie. In the movie, the special forces team was hunted down with everyone killed except the sniper who survived.

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see it as an American equivalent of MiG-21. But it wasn't as popular. Maybe because Americans (and other Western nations) had a lot more to offer at the time while Soviets really didn't. MiG-23 wasn't much of a success and MiG-29 was only first exported in the late 1990s.

    The nose gear seems to 'pump up' just before takeoff, raising the nose of the aircraft. Haven't seen that feature on any other plane.

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, the pilot raises the nose before takeoff. It increases AoA, reduces takeoff lenght. British Phantoms had a similar feature.

  • @Sphinx0514
    @Sphinx0514 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cool but unrealistic. A more plausible scenario would be interception of a private jet like the ones drug cartels use or maybe destruction of clandestine airstrips in the mountains. It has happened that high profile criminals are flying and the air force has no way to stop them.
    About modernization, the only two realistic options to replace F-5s would be Jas-39 from Brazil or the KAI T-50.

    Fun mission and interesting scenario! How do you create these lasing missions for the f-5? Got any tips?

    • @showtime112
      @showtime112  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey, I'm so glad you like the video. It was inspired by TV shows such as Braking Bad and Better Call Saul which are about Mexican cartels. As for lasing missions, the easiest way it to set a vehicle that has a laser designator (Bradley, Abrams and such). Then you set them up as a FAC near the target and when in mission, contact by radio. My problem was that it needed to be really really close to work. You can even see the HUMWEE near the building in the video.
      This guy explains it quite well, check it out:

    Given that the FAM retired the F-5's in 2016, a far more plausible scenario (at the time this video was released anyway) would have been for US intelligence agencies to have learned of the Cartel meeting and the US Gov't sending in an F-35 with PGM's to carry out the strike as they could evade the limited Mexican radar coverage and have the ability to laser designate thier own PGM's (which would eliminate the need for a SpecOps team on the ground).

    In a real mission, the laser code would be verified with the Ground Laser Designator and the correct call from the FAC is "spot on" not "lazing". Just a detail.
