  • In this video you will learn how to use my Matlab Gui Tool to easily setup the Concrete Damaged Plasticity model in Abaqus. Follow this link to download the needed files:

    I start with a detailed description of the tool and then show how to practically use it from 18:36.

    thanks for the CDP data generator .. could you please let me know how to refer to this in my reference for my thesis, do you have an article or report published, thanks again

    This is outstanding. Thank you for sharing..I just have one question, Is the caractarstic elemnet legnth same as the mesh size?

    • @joesy3721
      @joesy3721  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      it is the length, which is perpendicular to the crack direction
      Since your elements should not be too distorted anyways, ideally they would be perfect cubes if you use hex elements, it is basically the edge length

      @@joesy3721 Hello Joesy thx for replying.. with this tool I am getting an acceptable result from my abaqus model. But the elements under tension stress are extremly distorted! any advice?

      there could be several reasons for that.. i can only name a few i personally encountered myself:
      If your elements get distorted very early in the analysis material damage is apparently progressing too fast, so make sure you don't have any singularities like harsh boundary conditions or similar. If your boundary conditions are rather simple you may want to try a higher fracture energy to make your material more ductile (of course in compliance with eventual experimental data)
      I also had problems with very fine meshes, because the damage localizes even more (tensile damage mostly localizes in rows of one element and you might have a problem if there is no rebar supporting these elements if maximal damage is reached)
      and last but not least i suppose you deal with reinforced concrete and used the embedded rebar approach properly to redistribute the stress once the concrete matrix cracks

    Can you please help me to find out the paper that you referenced for developing this whole calculations. I am finding difficulties to exactly find the equations utilised.

      It's mainly based on the Fib Model Code 2010, but also on the Eurocode EN 1992...
      If you're referring to any specific formula, i could also look it up specifically

    Sir, I am doing parametric studies of Prestressed Girder in ABAQUS, I am stuck in creating solid parabolic strand, and tried a lot to find any helping material but failed to have it, would you help me out please? Thanks in advance

      This question does not seem to concern this tool neither. Anyway, if I got you right, I think your problem simply comes from Abaqus' limited CAD (modeling) capabilities. You may want to try a proper CAD software (solidworks, creo,...) and import the geometry to Abaqus.

    Hi Dr
    Can I use this file to modify any factors in CDP, for ex. if i need to define concrete containing rubbers pieces, can this tutorial help me?

    • @joesy3721
      @joesy3721  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This question is rather concerning the limitations of the concrete model itself and not this tool. The Abaqus documentation and its references should be able to help you. Without checking it specificly for your question and lacking knowledge of concrete containing rubber pieces I can only tell you that the Abaqus Concrete Damaged Plasticity Model is based on the Lee and Fenves Model which initially was developed for usual concrete under cyclic loading.
