  • Apparently the punk rock fashion gal Erin Micklow got beat up at a show, so I have to cover this unfortunately. Bullying is not ok. Neither is mob mentality. Uggghh....

@@thepunkrockreview yeah PRB 2016 she and some girl got in a fight at the 4 Queens circle bar. I turned around to start filming random people fighting I missed everything that happened (phone and with my eyes). She walked past me and said "You were filming that?" and just punched me in the side of the head. I lowered my self and squeezed through everyone's legs. Her friends started harassing me to delete the footage and I had to get hotel security and threaten to press charges against Erin unless they left me alone. Looked at the footage and there was literally nothing on it. the next day she posted that she was jumped and that some dude filmed it and hit her too. It was quickly deleted maybe an hour or 2 after she posted it to Insta.

Her main issue is that she has absolutely no self-awareness. None.EDIT: I got sucker punched at a show by somebody I didn't know back in 1990. She got bodily thrown out of the venue by the bouncer while I went home with a very black eye. Did I whine about it? Nope. Did I call the cops? Nope. You do have a point about her lack of self awareness... still think the bullying thing is dumb. Very murky gray area here, for me. I don't want people getting bullied, but my personal feelings towards her kind of got in the way of that msg. I genuinely hate this kind of thing...

Punx can take it . This Gen's "punk" influencers, can't. Can't play an instrument, can't write a song, cant be real about who or what you are( or dont know or havent figured it out yet) , never bled over a poem youve spent weeks writing...but you can spike& dye yer hair ,you met a few old punx, you go to shows, got some autographs. Punk is not about BEING NICE&SIGNING AUTOGRAPHS & caring about who the F. Knows it ! Williams Burroughs told Ian Curtis "f*** off& get some money, kid," when he asked for his autograph&couldn't buy his book(one of 'em. I'm paraphrasing to make a point.Read Some of the BOOKS!!!). Punk ain't nice. It's getting gobbed on, moshing til you have a black eye& yer shirt gets ripped off, getting wasted , having such a great time you can't remember the next week why you're still so happy. You write, you fight, you cry, you live in communal houses & meet all kinds of great people you love one night, they disappear , & the next nite you meet some assholes & get in a fight. You deathrock dance in a corner by yourself( thank you Morrissey, for emo/deathrock or the nameless, whatever rockabilly you call your masterpieces.& thank All punk for my punk /deathrock life), go home & cry& you want to die! Punk isn't pretty. Punk isn't ugly. Punk is DEALING WITH PUNX.Punk is living with your own bullshit& the rest of the world's. Sleeping under a car one night cuz you cant sneak back in your or yer friend's house til sunup.Being an influencer- WTF does that even mean, in 1970's/80's Punk/deathrock/newwavenowave world? - when we had to watch some of our best friends die of something called GRIDS in our beds, & watch our other friends o.d. in a gutter outside a show the next night? Being seen does not make you Punk. You have to be tough to hear & live in the real world, get the F. Outta yer comfort zone- away from the SCREENS!! AWAY FROM THE HEARTS & happyvfaces(????) & LIKES! I dont hate this person- but I don't know this person. So many "little faces" all over the screens, I don't wanna know, I don't care. & in truth, Punk doesn't care. Sorry you got hurt. Move on. Don't think it might not happen again. You put yourself out there as influencer of Punk. Can't handle it, grow up. Get yer day job, have yer kids, & learn to like Avril Lavine& demi lavato- whoever they are. At least yer safe. Stop crying. F***. - bb

What I don't think she understands is that if she was just a pretty girl at shows who interviewed bands, few people would have a problem with her. The fact that she puts on a "punk rock" costume is what rubs people the wrong way. And, yes, as much as my wife hates that I say this, sometimes violence is the answer, but it's not the answer to some girl larping as a member of the Causalities, or whatever. She's looking for attention and fighting her only gives her more of what she's seeking.

The thing that gets me is that people accuse her of being fake, but what would be the point? There's no money in punk. It won't get you fame. You'll get no kudos from going to shows, because nobody other than other punks will see you there. She does go to shows. She does promote a ton of bands on her channel. People just seem annoyed at the way she looks, and make a lot of assumptions because of it, but that only seems to be a major issue in the USA, specifically west coast USA.

      @@MegaMisfit138 Agree 100% with this:
In my experience, these types of gatekeeper dorks calling her out for "wearing a costume" are more often than not just overcompensating for their own lack of knowledge on certain bands. It's knocking other people down to bring themselves up, and this girl unfortunately is a sitting target for those kind of insufferable, insecure idiots.
The most knowledgeable people I know on their love for punk rock and r'n'r in general are happy to discuss their favourite bands with people who otherwise might not know about certain albums (or the bands at all). She's a great interviewer and chooses cool bands at that.
Punk scenes are essentially now just factories for social climbers who all share the same lame opinions (corporate media/hollywood/major academic institute opinions at that) and will ostracize you on social media if you fall out of line. It's ironic that they claim this girl wears a "costume" when virtually every dork I've met at a punk show is just parroting each other's idiotic viewpoints.
I also can't imagine being a grown adult who actually calls another person a "poser". For that matter, i can't imagine a person over the age of 20 uses the term "poser".

Are they not the focal point for the whole thing? I dunno... that makes me think she's "helping" the "scene". 🤷‍♂️ i would imagine the bands appreciate it? 🤔🤷‍♂️.
At the same time, I find her annoying, but she doesn't "bother" me enough for me to give a shit and get all angry at her. 🤔🤷‍♂️ I don't understand the people freaking out about her. 🤣 It's weird to me. If she wasn't being bullied, this wouldn't have happened to begin with. Now dude that beat up her BF had a jacked up hand and may lose time at work bc of it.... all around stupid situation

@@thepunkrockreview I have noticed a general backlash against influencers lately in society. The neoliberal mantra of 'buy buy buy' doesn't work when everybody is broke as hell struggling to pay bills and buy food. It all actually reminds me of the conspicuous consumption of the 1980's. John Carpenter's film They Live should be required viewing because he laid it all out almost 40 years ago.

YES FINALLY someone else said it. Ive been saying for years that there is consequences for what comes out of your mouth. A lot of the times Ive been punched is when I said something I shouldnt have that was stupid. It was social reinforcement. I took the hit and thought about my actions and realized that maybe i shouldnt have said that. I learned from the experience. A lot of the younger kids (Im 43 like you) seem to have this mentality that they can say whatever they want and theyll never be smacked for it. Think it has something to do with doing most of their social interactions from behind a screen or something. They also think free speech means speech without consequence. We think similarly about a lot of the issues brought up in this video and also seem to come from similar places in regard to the types of people weve grown up around. Obviously street smart and can see through her like a window. A lot of holes and red flags in her story for sure.

Rad jacket, btw. Spot on with the uniform thing too. Punk does have a uniform. Sure, it varies among punks. Street punks dress like street punks. Egg punks dress like egg punks. Skate punks dress like skate punks, etc. I dress like Debbie Harry and Lux Interior had a kid in a thrift shop across the street from a New York Dolls show but that's how I dress all the time, lol. That's how I go to work, the grocery store, punk shows. She dresses like a punk only at punk shows. WTF?

That's where we all have to look first. Shut up& get in the van, Rollins might say. No one cares yer tired, been up 7 days, hungover, written ten songs in 4 nights , & feel sad. Get of the screen& get a taste on concrete. Party with some people at ground zero, or at the Deadman's party. You might find yourself turning into a real, live girl( Pinocchio, in case you 4got- but diznee's evil, so steer clear of those hollywoodland false vampires. Bro your show is the best thing on the internet! Your assessment of this situation was spot on! Who gives a shit. Funk is different things to different people, and it's insane to believe that everybody that shows up to a venue is going to have the same IQ, opinions, etcetera... If some kids just want to treat it like it's Halloween everyday that's fine they're not hurting anybody. Sometimes punk is just that escapism. But yeah I noticed that there's just been a lot of hate being slung at that chick online lately, and it seems like a huge coinkydink to boost her publicity. Oh well... But to be fair you know I don't necessarily think about punk is being exclusive to only the poor you know... Let's be real there's plenty of people balling out of control that command a large audience... But to be fair, some of the poorest, stinkiest punk rockers who have had hard lives from the jump are some of the most elitist, snobbiest, meanest most hateful assholes. I will always take a rich, kind simpleton over a poor, lying, stealing, violent psycho any day. In this case though... Homegirl is just so disingenuous and any school kid can see it lol. That video 🤣 the Oscar goes to.... Haha

I don't think the younger folks appreciate the fashion influencer persona gig. So she put herself out there, drew attention to herself.
As an old head, what the kids do today doesn't inspire me. I understand unity and gravitated towards punk in order to not fit in. To be able to identify as myself, and allow others to as well. Gatekeeping is something most of us get over after high school.

im sorry, what on earth put you under the impression that punk means being sober and no fighting? you may be thinking of straight edge hardcore punks (unless im mistaken) but punk has never been a safe space. bullying is lame and she doesnt deserve it at all, but also if youre going to a punk show you should already be aware that a fight is possible and you should already be mentally prepared for it it, otherwise its not really safe for you to be at the show. the crying video is a cherry on top though.
its shitty, but if you cant take the heat get out of the kitchen. the punk scene is just not the place for her, or her boyfriend.
