Wow they were amazing with mick Taylor they were the greatest show on earth nobody came close to them they were in a league of there own just spectacular how much prove people need to know I've seen 100s of concerts the so calle biggest bands nobody came close to these guys with mick Taylor thank you.
I love MT, no doubt, but he's not a creative player on his own, he adds something important and quality to the songs of the Stones, he helped them to get back their first love, the blues, but he can't do something as a good riff, as Keith does. It's not to denigrate MT, I repeat, I love him, but it's necessary to recognize the band as such.
I think the February shows in Australia and the September/October '73 shows in Europe are the peak of live Stones.Although my favorite live version of this song is from 7/20/72 Spectrum Philadelphia,Pa.Taylor rips a staggering, and probably longest solo for this song.
when The Stones had a lead guitarist who actually practiced, and made sure to be as perfect as possible live, and made choices so every concert is different... the man who helped make them what they claimed, the greatest band in the world... for those years they had to prove that they were by SOUNDING like the greatest band... so with Taylor they were the greatest band... after that they were simply, The Rolling Stones... they didn't have to sound great, they just had to sound like The Stones... I liked when they had to work for it, with Taylor...
I thought Bob Dylan was pretty interesting about Mick T. When talking with Keith and Ronnie at Live Aid he said that with Taylor (who played in Dylan's band) you never knew what you were going to get on a given night. Great one night, most assuredly not on another.
I've always loved The Stones Live in 73' the best. I wish I was old enough to see them live that time, I was only 4, a little hard to do. Mick Taylor was one of the main reasons why I picked up the guitar. He was never a gymnastics guitar show off with speed. Who cares, he had soul, feeling and played all the right notes. The forgotten Bluesbreaker. He still gives me the goosebumps.
i had to chirp in they were so fin lucky to get him to play with them hyde park was is first gig live he nails this version to the cross man he just flows some of the videos of him on down the line jagger looks at him and just smiles he makes my top five for sure
Fuck. I just found this. I was at this show, it was probably the best Stones gig I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few. Actually one of the best shows by any band I've ever seen. They opened with Brown Sugar and I kid you not, the entire audience rose out of their seats, almost as if we had all been plugged into the national grid. This is a barnstorming version of Gimme Shelter, even without Merry Clayton's vocals. Yep, I was there. What a show that was...
This is the version that was on the old bootleg, Bedspring Symphony. I agree with others that this is probably the best live version of Gimme Shelter out there, and Mick Taylor indeed is fabulous.
Yes, Bedspring"is a remarkable boot. It's mostly (all?) from 9/9/73 Wembley Pool. I'd drink bleach to have seen that show. "Street Fighting Man" version insane, especially Keith's ending jam dense rhythm. All the ducks yelled.
This is also on "Tour De Force" bootleg. It has the greatest versions of "Tumbling Dice", "You can't always get what you want ", "Angie", "Brown Sugar" and others.
Hmmmm ... AFAIK the 'Bedspring Symphony' is also known as the 'Brussels Affair' - and thus from October 17th. Or perhaps I'm mistaken? In any case not that important - great version nevertheless.
This interpretation is so magnificent, it makes the record sound dry and sterile. I first heard this on an FM receiver in 1973 during a live broadcast on the King Biscuit Flower Hour. This interpretation was so profound, I remembered it to this day. I love the slide show accompaniment that you've added. The Tumbling Dice form this show is equally majestic. Thank you for doing this.
I was there as a 15 year old & remember thinking I was present at the tail-end, decadent period of the Stones career - when glam rock & celebrity took over from the "dangerous" Stones of their earlier days. Little did I know that they would still be playing 45 years later!
Im 18 now, searching for long lost stones bootlegs everyday & i bought the super deluxe cd brussels affair set as quickly as i could save up for it. Playing along to ya yas since i was 14 & got my first guitar. I cant imagine hearing this live, sounds supernatural now. I can only picture how amazing it sounded then.
@@samguest8179 To be honest, I wasn't that impressed. It was the first BIG concert I attended & it felt like we were a long way from the stage. I saw the Stones again at Knebworth in 1976 & their playing seemed a bit messy & lacklustre. I also saw the Who at Charleton Athletic FC in 1976. The Stones without Mick Taylor were (and is!) a good band and that is all! With Mick Taylor they were magicians, wizards and Masters of the best Rock and Roll!!!
+Alcides MFJr. Right on! This is the peak. They could make more money, keep it away from Mick T, not threaten Keef's ego, but they would never be truly great again. A high price, boys. Choose someone you like partying with more and does a good pose and pantomime onstage. Well, you can fool most of the people some of the time, anyway.
Luther Weston yes sir ree bob! Perfect comment while listening to a version of Gimme Shelter. This proves all of your points! I have heard this version a couple hundred times since 1974 when I bought Bedspring Symphony in San Jose. I know every note of Taylor's lead/solos. Time to listen to some more 1973. Just the flacs only the flacs.
A lot is said of the debt the Stones owe Mick T in regards to the music they created during his time with the band. But I also think a counter view is just as valid. MT could not have found a better outlet at the time for his playing. They wrote songs that allowed him the freedom to shine. He was the perfect foil to everything they were doing, and didn't they know it. Clapton may very well be 'God', but Mick Taylor is the 'Son and Holy Ghost'.
Great version! Does it best the Philly 72 version? There's great live taped Stones performances with Brian Jones Five Years before this on December 1968's Rock & Roll Circus, along with Jethro Tull, John Lennon's DIrty Mac with Clapton, The Who, and Taj Mahal.
The greatest Stones recording in their incredible history. The band was as tight as they ever were live. The vocal is strong, guitars are perfect. Taylor is clear, quick and untouchable. The recording is commercial release quality. I would expect this to be released some time in the next couple years along with the Brussels material. The seal on the vault has been broken with "Ladies and Gentleman". They didn't want this stuff out for comparisons but they know the end is near now and it is time.

Yeh. but the best ever version is at altamont at the end of the movie. sends a shiver down me spine. mickle Taylor the greatest.

@@robertparker4833 Brussell and Altamont best versions.
