When I was 13 in 1982 I read about this protocol called M.I.D.I. that would allow one synthesizer to control another. And while I could not afford to synthesizer myself for at least a couple of years I read up all I could about MIDI and its founder Dave Smith and when I could afford to I bought a sequential circuits six track. The six track was 6 note polyphonic and had six different tracks which you could record individual sequences on, and thereby ove dub. It was as though somebody had created a magical machine to compensate for my lack of technique, and allow me to put together songs that were in my head one pass at a time. Fast forward 40 years I am 53 years old and eternally indebted to the vision that Dave Smith had to create the MIDI standard. It has allowed me to express myself creatively as well as commercially. I owe my career in the large part to the vision of Dave Smith. My only regret is that I did not have a chance to thank him in person.
He was also a sweet person who genuinely enjoyed people & talking with them. He will be missed. Picked up a Prophet X a week before he passed.. and that instrument has a special place in my heart, also because the synth is simply gorgeous-sounding (especially when you toss your own samples in!) Best filter i have ever had in a poly synth, and that’s saying a lot because i have a Jupiter 8.
Welp, it's that time of the year Bo, thx for sticking round and providing us content that has gotten us through some seriously bad times, thx for sharing your own woes and allowing us to see the transformation too. You're an extremely positive person who interacts with your audience in a way that makes us feel like we do matter. Take your time, chill with friends and family, hope your little one is doing fine, I remember the vid you did with them in shot, how time must fly. Be safe, best wishes and see you when we see you.
I feel like this year has had stupid levels of drama in the synth community. This was the best way to just laugh and enjoy what a golden age of gear we are living in. Thanks so much for this Bo!
I have been looking forward to this! Awesome job! I loved it! Really cool picks and the guests were awesome to watch and I loved the overviews of the devices picked!
Genius video! I love seeing the synth TH-cam community come together like this. You are doing awesome things mate. I highly enjoy your channel! Cheers!
This is always the peak of the year. Love this conclusion for the year and your great work for bringing the synth-youtube community together. Thanks and all the best to you all!
You da man! This was great! Loved seeing and hearing from all of the guests. So happy the Polyend Play won its category! (Definitely my pick for the year:) Cheers!
One of the things that I love, is how many times I see a version of the Hydrasynth in your presenter's videos. I bought the keyboard when it was first released, and it's still my favorite piece of gear!
Congratulations to all our winners. Clap. Clap. My favourite gear this year has been software. I award Cubase for being just what I need it to be as my first DAW.
Thanks so much Bo. You even include a free gear slot. You're really looking after us all, rich or not-so-rich. That was hugely enjoyable. Great insight from everyone. Thanks to your good self and the other creator/reviewers for making our community such a warm and inspiring place to be.....TO 2023!!! 🍾 🥂
Thankyou Bo. Bringing together all the influencers, and more importantly, inspirations was amazing. This incredible community has kept me sane over the last few years. Yuletide blessings to you and everyone watching too. We are the music makers, we are the dreamers of dreams.
Strange that no one mentioned the Modal Cobalt 8x & Argon 8x synthesizers?? Definitely the best new digital synthesizers of 2022 in my opinion and it's under a $1000! It also received an incredible firmware update. Great video as always 🤟🏻
Fabulous entertainment. So many TH-cam stars altogether creating such bonhomie. Synths come and go but this charming atmosphere even rarer. Congratulations. I loved every moment and yes my fav synth this year was the op-1 field too.
Everything about this video is a reflection of your values. You share the limelight with your friends and make our worlds a little bigger in the process. You are a good man Mr. BoBeats. Happy 2023.
Hi BoBeats - thanks for a great video, I really enjoyed it & wondered if a category for best beginners synth would be a good addition for 2023. Many thanks Paul
Really love these year end videos Bo! It takes a lot of work to produce content like this and I'm very grateful for all your work and the work of all my other favorite TH-camrs who contributed! 😉 Thanks again and happy holidays 💜
I'm new to the synth community having just recently jumped into my first groovebox - Circuit Tracks and having some fun. Thank you for your videos, have a wonderful holiday season - coming all the way from Australia...cheers Bo
Pretty entertaining, lots of gear I've never heard of that sounds nice, and lots of things I'm happy to see win awards (like miniFreak). Thanks for putting this together for us all.
I’m about to embark on publishing my own TH-cam channel and I know I’ll have made it when @BoBeats invites me to be a guest presenter. Great year end best of. I’m lucky to own many of the years past best of, my favorite being the Hydrasynth Deluxe.
Love this video every year and this year is no exception! You do an incredible job producing this and I love that you include other people in the synth community to include diverse insights and expose people to new channels! Personally I think it should have been Synthstrom Deluge for Best Hardware Update! They rolled out an OLED screen and are retrofitting old units!
Hi Mattias nice video, Just a quick and friendly tip. Always keep a 1 inch unused paintbrush near your synths and keyboards, they're perfect for removing unsightly dust, just before that all important video shoot.

Nice video. Always keep a 1 inch wide unused paintbrush near your synths and keyboards 5:30 they're perfect for removing unsightly dust, just before that all important video shoot.
Would have loved to see the Softpop 2 get a shout-out! I know it's weird and unpredictable, but that's what I enjoy about it. I find it's the one piece of gear that never makes me think, "Well, it would be easier to do in a DAW" because I never really know what I'm going to end up with.
Once I got my head around the weird MIDI setup and Akai's lackadaisical attitude to updates and how to @fix them@ the OG MPC Live became the most important bit of gear in my setup. Imperfect and incredibly powerful, the MC505 of it's times.
@bobeats I like that you included GAS Therapy as a touch of anticonsumerism (from my perspective anyway). We all need humor with common sense. Shout out to @playpm !
I have to say I'm not surprised at the OB-X8 for winning synth of the year over 1000 euros. I pre-ordered one just based on my love of the classic Oberheim sound found in so many songs of the 80s I love. I knew at that time it was going to be good but I had no idea how good it was going to be when it arrived. It immediately blew my mind when it arrived and is now my favorite synth I own. I look forward to what Tom Oberheim has up his sleeve next.
Great video as always! It's too bad Emilie didn't release her new Plaits firmware until the last few days, it's so massive I imagine it could have made the update list. Also a bit sad Elektron didn't release that Digitakt update until after I sold mine. The lack of a song mode was a big part of why it didn't work for me, and that update might have changed my mind about selling it.
thank you for 2022... see you in 2023 (or perhaps sooner if I get bored during the winter holidays!)

Don't forget to raise your glass to the memory of the late great Dave Smith, who we lost this year.
RIP ❤️
A true titan of music technology. So many of us would be lost without his achievements. May he rest forever in sweet lush Prophet clouds

I owe my career in the large part to the vision of Dave Smith. My only regret is that I did not have a chance to thank him in person.
I wonder if he's a causality of the freedom jab ?!?
Any one who died right after that is possibly a victim of big pharma/ big govt Tyranny !?
He was also a sweet person who genuinely enjoyed people & talking with them. He will be missed. Picked up a Prophet X a week before he passed.. and that instrument has a special place in my heart, also because the synth is simply gorgeous-sounding (especially when you toss your own samples in!) Best filter i have ever had in a poly synth, and that’s saying a lot because i have a Jupiter 8.
…And I got to end the video?! I guess I’m the headliner here, haha!
Thanks for having me Bosse. Great video!
Best for last!!

Excellent show! I will watch this many more times.
Did not realize how tiny the Syntakt was. Or maybe it was Oora 🤷♂
Well done Bo. Enjoyed this. Thank you.

Awesome video compilation Bo! Great work and congrats to all the collaborators! Thanks for having me Bo! And have great christmas vacation!🎉
Hi Mattias nice video, Just a quick and friendly tip.
Always keep a 1 inch unused paintbrush near your synths and keyboards, they're perfect for removing unsightly dust, just before that all important video shoot.
Hopefully the DIY-Gear scene will grow and starting next year there will be a award for this.
Awesome!!! Great production. Very entertaining and informative.
Lovely cast list btw! Bringing alot of interesting tubers together like this, I really enjoyed this :)
Much love to Accurate, the man is an inspiration
AMAZING VIDEO!! Cheers Bo 🎉
Amazing video series! Please keep on with that!
Best award to the guy with a cat on his lap, the total stillness of the cat initially confused me it was a kind of cute cat pillow, but then I noticed the cat is a really cute living cat doing his thing - RELAX. What a beautiful creature - the cat.
“For synths that need extra bass…” - uses the Minilogue Bass 😅 Perfect!
Molten hovering over two Molten modules and then pointing to the Pizza was good stuff
Fabulous!
So happy to see the east beast get love. For 250 USD, it is packed with a ton of amazing features and sounds incredible. If you don't have it, pick it up. If someone asks you what you want for Xmas it is a great gift.
thanks for all!
Nice video.
Always keep a 1 inch wide unused paintbrush near your synths and keyboards 5:30 they're perfect for removing unsightly dust, just before that all important video shoot.
Great show Bo and guests 🎉
Innovative and interesting video as always😁 Thanks!
Best update for me was the Roland mc 101, they gave us the whole freaking synth engine in a small package
This video is a true victory for pipe organ!
great video!
SQ-64 price did just drop to $130 and it did get a big update. I just bought one to see what it's all about.
wow the intro is blowing my mind!!
Wahay thanks for the award bo!
Bo's "Oh Deeeer: led hat ought to be in it's own category of party gear as well! :D Thanks for great vid anyway, cheers.
The guest intro started off as a tribute to “These Are The Daves I Know I Know.”
Got a good chuckle from Robin’s subtle advert for his molten modules.
Cheers to six years. Best show yet!
♥️♥️
I bought a new Elektron Rytm MK2, Digitone, Analog Heat MK2 and SP 404 MK2 and really enjoy these synths a lot!
ah hell yeah, love this award show
Would have loved to see the Softpop 2 get a shout-out! I know it's weird and unpredictable, but that's what I enjoy about it. I find it's the one piece of gear that never makes me think, "Well, it would be easier to do in a DAW" because I never really know what I'm going to end up with.
Great video, very entertaining!
Syntakt seems very interesting, I might get one in the future. Erica synths drum machine is like a future classic. Thanks.
BobEATS, thank u for all u do.
Happy Holidays, Bo!
Bo seems like one of the most wholesome people on TH-cam. Congratulations on another year everyone.
Great job Bo! Thanks for bringing all that talent in one really well thought through video! Really appreciate the hard work
Cool channel, the algo gods blessed me this day.
cheers!

I played with the East Beast at NAMM and let me tell you, it's such a great value for the money. You can do a ton with a very small synth
Love the OP-1 Field
