  • Kashana-e-Ikhlas (The Music Room) had the honour and pleasure of hosting one of Indian Classical Music's biggest names, Ustad Salamat Ali Khan sahib's youngest son, Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan, and his elder brother Ustad Latafat Ali Khan in a live performance on 14 June 2014. Both Shafqat ali Khan and Latafat Ali Khan are brilliant artists in their own right. In this concert Latafat Khan had the role of supporting vocal as well as being on the Harmonium. Amiruddin Khan of Jaipur, India accompaied on Sarangi and Waheed Khan of Jaipur on Tabla.
    Kashana-e-Iklas would like to thank Mr. Fahim Shah Khan and Ustad Wajahat Khan for Introducing these two great Ustads to Kashana-e-Ikhlas.

      Rameshji thanks for uploading this piece. On the outset I say both tabla and sarangi sangat was pretty mediocre. Sarangiwala was on sideline and completely isolated. Ustadji's excessive physical movements and extreme acrobatics of taans etc were not appropriate for beautiful and serene raag 'Yaman'. At times the sanctity of this raag was badly sacrificed. Have heard beautiful and proper rendering of Yaman by many stalwarts like D.V.Paluskar, Amir Khan, Bade Ghulam Ali, Pt. Jasraj, Rashid Khan, Ajay Chakravarti, Kaushiki etc. You can hear most melodious Yaman by Sanjeev Abhyankar on TH-cam. These are my honest thoughts.

    bohat bohat khoobssorat. such a peacful mood to the alaap. plus the ghamaks and taankaari are also a treat. Shafqat has outdone himself in this one. at one point he says to the tabla nawaz "pyar se bajao" ...in fact that is the entire mood of this recital. thank you for sharing.

    Excellent singing. However his taans are too noisy. I don't know whether such taans are liked in Pakistan. In India, certainly we are not used to such taans and we are not comfortable with it.

    The singer tells the tabla player (at the start of the bandish) ....your job is to play tabla, not to listen to the song!! That is by far the worst advice anyone can give the accompanying tabla player. Most tabla players are taught to not just play tabla, but to provide musical accompaniment to enhance the music. No point in playing tabla if you do not understand the music and appreciate how it is flowing.

    Well after listening to this piece, i have a mixed reaction. He have a lot of practice of phrases and have good speed. But something was not there or too much not in control.

    Shafqat's alap is beautiful but taans are like someone in great pain and he is shouting, yelling, etc. When two cats yell at each other, their voice and his taans are exactly the same. If he could structure and balance his music! But he was raised in an environment where such yelling and shouting care called taans. He is not willing to analyze his music and he is hellbent to take pride in such yelling. Sad!

    • @ArbazKhan-qr9fp
      @ArbazKhan-qr9fp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe you feel jealous of his music or you don't have that much knowledge to understand the Hard taans.. What the fuck you are saying that cats are yelling.. What is your Auqaat in front of him and his Gharana Haan.. Such a Fucking bastard..

    • @ArbazKhan-qr9fp
      @ArbazKhan-qr9fp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you sing as him??? He was under his father's Training for 22 years man.. You don't have any right to insult the Great Ustaad.. You want to listen his soft taans then listen his Ghazals.. This is not ghazal Bastard.. In the past they only Used to sing this kind of taans only.. Go and dip your face in gutter you bankrupt..

    • @soham8186
      @soham8186 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arbaz Khan Mohammad shehzad ji is absolutely correct.....the bulandi taans were sung by many(ustad niyaz ahmed faiyaz ahmed khan....ustad naseer ahmed khan ....pandit bhimsen joshi....pandit kumar gandharva....ustad faiyaz khan abdul karim khan mushtaq hussain khan omkarnath thakur etc to name a few) shouting and yelling is not what you call music ...listen to the stalwarts mentioned above and other great doyens like bade ghulam ali khan etc ....you’ll surely be able to understand the vast difference....such gimmicks and playing to the gallery will paralyse this divine form of art....mausiqi ibadaat se kuch kam nahi....listen to ajoy chakrabarty...sanjeev abhyankar ....rashid khan , parveen sultana ..mishra brothers etc who more or less belong to his age group but are much ahead in their own league and in terms of preserving the sanctity and divinity of this art

      @@soham8186 I Respect your True intentions towards music but every flower has its own Fragrance.. As same as that every Gharana has their own Style. If you listen to Sham Chaurasi Gharana which belongs to many Legends so you will find that they used to sing their own Gayaki. I also listen to Rajan Sajan Jee, Ajoy Jee, Ustaad Abdul Kareem Sahab, Bade and Chote Ghulam Ali Sahab but it doesn't mean that Salamat Ali sahab's Gharana spoiling the Music. We are nothing to comment on them but we also don't have right to disrespect them. Okay you are saying he is spoiling the music then why all the world are respecting his music? Why our Indians Like Ustad Shahid Parvez Sahab (Sitar Maestro), Ustad Amjad Ali Sahab ( Sarod Maestro) Ustad Hans Raj Hans, Asha Bhosale Jee, Lata Jee, Music Directors like Jatin and Lalit Jee loves him alot?? Maybe you didn't checked anything or you didn't watched the taarif from all Legends for Him

    • @ArbazKhan-qr9fp
      @ArbazKhan-qr9fp 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      He don't pay to them for taarif.. They respect his Music, They Respect his contribution, They respect his Gayaki, They respect for his Style, They respect because everyone knows that who is he, They respect because everyone knows his Father, They Respect His Riyaaz, They respect Because they can understand the Gayaki of Legends. Maybe you don't know but he is the only man on the earth who Teaches our Music to Berkeley University and they hired him when he was just 19. Maybe he didn't pay anything to them to get hired by them.

    It started well, then it became progressively worse. Toward the end it was as if all hell had broken loose. What a talent, but completely untamed and undisciplined.
