Why does umihotaru chiba's moon look like that?

The moon when photographed from Umihotaru is usually around the new or full moon.
If it is close to the new moon, the shadow area can be brightened due to the camera's exposure.
Or the moon at 03:53~ or 04:07~?
I think the distortion of the moon is the same as that of the shimmer, and is due to the temperature difference in the atmosphere.
