    hi, great video. Would you suggest to use the Send/Return output of your Presonus AI? I am having problem in connecting my Behringer UMC 404 to the Compressor Behringer T1952 with a Y cable. Basically I have tried all possible combinations, I just don't get signal from the inserts of my UMC.

    Thanks dude. Would not work at first, then played around and added an EQ to the track in Logic, then suddenly had signal coming through via the compressor! Maybe a small bug in Logic I don't know. Just thought I would mention in case others get no sound/signal coming through at first. Cheers

    It can further test the result of the recording. Example: In the track that placed the I / O create a Bus -Ex: bus1, insert this Bus in output of the same I / O track. Create a new Audio channel (mono or stereo) depends on the I / O you created. In this new audio track, in input, insert the same bus1 created. Arm the track to record / strike and see the result.

    To clarify if using this I/O for hardware to print, do you create a new track and record it with the outboard effect engaged on the track? I'm assuming you can't bounce out until it's printed? How would you do that on the master buss?

    • @ZedMartyProduction

  • @christopher-yw5lh
    @christopher-yw5lh 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm struggling with this because the ping does not work without first routing to a bus (the
    Logic Effects manual specifies that a bus routing is needed to use i/o). Using your method, the alignment will not be sample-accurate .

    I tried this method with the same Presonus Fireproject and a DBX comp. , but I realized that my compressor diminished the signal from about 600 Hz and above, so more the hi low end was revealed and the resulted sound was a little bit boomy and thicky (muddy). Do you think at this price range the DBX 166XL model is a good option for using an ext. compressor?

    With this quality of analog compressor, (I own the same model) would it be worth the trouble over just using a plug-in?

    • @colebanfillmusic
      @colebanfillmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There will always be an argument that analog gear sounds better cause it can add saturation and different colors to the recording that you don’t really get digitally. Is it worth the hassle? Well it depends on what skill level you’re on when it comes to mixing. It won’t be a night and day difference using analog over digital but it can help get your mix from 95% to 100. At the end of the day it all comes down to how well you know how to use compression so if you’re a beginner I’d just use the ones in your daw cause they’re a lot more friendly and will help you understand how to truly use it. But there’s a reason the pros use analog gear. They know exactly what they want before they start turning the knobs so they get the analog saturation and color perfectly in tune with what they heard in their heads.

  • @BrianStreckfusClassicalGuitar
    @BrianStreckfusClassicalGuitar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I seem to have a feedback loop no matter what I do. Is this possible to do with an interface that only has two monitor outputs? I have focusrite 18i8 + clarett 8 ADAT expansion. So I am doing outputs 1-2, and then inputs 11-12 (first two on the ADAT).
    Also, maybe just as a video idea, any tips on how to have a faster workflow? If I print a track with outboard gear, now I have it going through the master bus and the outboard gear for a second time. So I could either turn off every plugin and outboard gear (time consuming), or I have to do a dry bounce and reopen the audio file in a different program/session. That's more of a workflow thing. Maybe there is a way to have two master bus? One with effects for printing, and a blank master bus just to hear playback of the printed track without another layer of effects. Hope that makes sense.

      Preamp out -> Klark input -> Klark output > Interface input

    Hey marty im trying to do a hybrid mixing using three firestudio projects but i cannot get the outputs to work correctly i keep getting stereo outputs from 1/2 and 7/8. Could you tell me how you fixed this problem in your setup?

      I actually never had that problem. Do they sync when connected to each other - all blue lights? I basically only installed Universal Control from Presonus and the Firestudios synced automatically. One advice though- if you bought them second hand they may have different firmware versions, so probably check that too. You can do that in the Universal control program but you have to do it separately for each Firestudio!

      Yeah they synced fine, in logic i am getting all my inputs, what i dont get is the multi outputs. I keep getting stereo on outputs 1/2. You mentioned something about that in this video actually.

    Great video - question - i have a extra old Sound interface with 2 input/2 main out.
    If i make a combination of those to interfaces in osx - could i use the 2 inputs and outputs for a outboard compressor?
    Since the main outs are the ones from my scarlet 2i2...... i asume the mainouts from my old interface could function as a “normal” Channel out

      If you create an aggregate device in the Audio Midi Setup under OSX with those 2 it might work yes.

    How would use this scenario with an external Hardware REVERB?- how would you get a "send" over the a channel ? I tried but got confused because in Logic when you create a send it automatically creates a return channel, can I put the I/O plug on a "return" channel?

    • @ZedMartyProduction
      @ZedMartyProduction  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you create an Aux/send track just put the I/O plugin on the Aux track itself.

      LOL- I actually just figured it out right after I typed that comment- so I have another question-- Im a Pro Tools Engineer for 15+ years- I want to commit to LPX now and so is there a way to MUTE the Aux Sends on and off? I know there is a little dial send wheel- but is there a shortcut or tip to throw an reverb or delay quickly on a sound?

    HOW is it connected to klark tekkie la2a

    I know this is an old video but if anyone can help with these two questions would really clear things up for me, why is it necessary to NOT use output 1 and 2 for analogue? and my second question is, is it necessary to make sure you are using the same numbered input as output I.E input 1&2 therefore output 1&2? thanks anyone who can help

      Output 1 & 2 on a lot of interfaces are basically the same as the Monitor speaker outputs, so they share the same outputs internally. That's why I advice using 3 & 4 and so on. You can use different inputs and outputs as long as you set it correctly in the I/O plugin.

      @@ZedMartyProduction thanks for the quick response and help! I am new to outboard gear and also discovered parallel processing. if you have time I had something else I couldn’t find any info on. So, I was wondering if I wanted to run lets say half of my drum mics (already recorded) through the outboard compressor but parallel process it on a stereo aux like I would normally with plug-ins, how would this be achieved? I think I am correct in saying that you can't record on an aux track, so would you create a new track instead of an aux, set the input for the new track to bus 1 (for example), then set the bus 1 sends to 0 dB on the drum tracks to send the signal through to the new track have the I/O setup on the new track to go to the outboard compressor and back into that track, then print (record) the compressed signal of the sent drum tracks onto the new track, then use the new tracks fader to blend into the original drum tracks? or is there an easier way of doing this? this was hard to write in less words so apologies for the essay, any help is hugely appreciated! Great vid.

      You can also bounce in place the drum tracks and use the I/O plugin with the hardware on that track and blend it in with the other drum tracks.

      This is touching on a question I have. I use logic pro and have just one outboard compressor, but want to use it on multiple tracks. By "print" do you mean dial in the comp. for the first track, then bounce that track with the I/O engaged, then move on?
