Great video Chris, are you saying that a spaniel puppy should get their exercise from structured retrieve training sessions, and not 20 minute runs around the field?

Great advice about not giving a dog a chew. Which I’ve been doing twice a day from the beginning as the breeder told me to. But then he chomps through every toy and doesn’t want to give up things. Ta da! 🤦‍♀️ We are getting past it. I’ve replaced with lick it mats and frozen kongs. Presume they’re ok?

Hi Chris, I have been watching your videos for months and have now got my own WCS - 2 days in and finding it hard. She is 9 weeks old. I am trying to do the ‘not over stimulating’ but she gets fractious and wants to play all the time. I have been putting her in her crate at night (and she made it through the night ok although I got up at 3 to let her out) and tried during the day but she howls and cries. Is this normal and how long will it last? (I am super conscious about my neighbours and any noise) Would you advocate taking her out to potty, bring her in for 10 minutes crate training and recall training with sock and a bit of play, take her out to potty again and then put her in covered crate for 1-2 hours to sleep and then repeat (and ignore any howling/crying)?

I suspect there's quite a few things that you're missing and not quite getting right. This is pretty normal if you're looking for some help maybe send me a message on Facebook or Instagram.

I have followed these videos too since I brought my first field cocker home. The one part I could not do was put him in the crate in another room. Did the same thing. I had to put the crate in the room with me, my other dogs were locked in their crates in another room. I put a blanket over the top and made sure he had a good chew toy. (Note: after the others dogs were let out, I would still keep him in the crate and let out the same. He was not allowed to just run and play with the others.) When he would get restless I would take him out to potty, play tug or retrieve a couple minutes, put him back. Rinse and repeat. It was exhausting. But we made it through. I slowly moved the crate further from me, placed it where he was in the same room but out of sight. Then moved him into the room with the others. This takes time. Rushing it won't help. He is 10 months now and no issues whatsoever. At the end of the day, they want out of that crate, but its up to us to teach them that the crate is a good place to be and eventually they want to be in there. I still crate mine at night. He is just too busy, will play all night, but as soon as he goes in the crate, settles instantly.
