I love these kinds of videos! Thank you for being so transparent and laying it all out for us! I find it really helpful with my own budgeting system and love hearing how others do it!
I like how you said you are content. Being able to do the basic things for your kids and to have some savings is what is important right now. I have to always remember to keep working hard and maybe someday we will have more but if we have what we need that is more than ok.
This may sound funny as I am only 26 and my husband and I are going to start planning for a family in the next few years, but I seriously want you to know your videos are helping me plan. Everything from groceries to budgeting is so helpful to know so it is great to hear from someone who is already an awesome mom :)
You always impress me with your strength and determination. I cannot imagine having to be a single mom and deal with weight you must have on your shoulders. I never will understand why the other parent acts so selfish. I wish more single parents were like you!! Great job!
I agree with you, when your budget is tight and you have to find free or cheep things to do kids usualy wil love it. Qualitytime with their parent goes above any toy or hobby especially at that young age!
Holy crap! I would die! Growing up the house was always 70° in the summer and 72° in the winter probably 68° at night in the winter. But winter here I feel like is MUCH colder! Like it gets to -40°c on a regular basis!! Brrr Now that I am grown we keep the house at 68°-69° maybe 71° when it is really cold out! And I already live in sweats and sweaters, usually with my house coat on and under a blanket! Lol
Amy Dormuth i know what you mean. i live in Pittsburgh. its been very frigid lately. i think the HIGH today was 10 degrees F. When im not home, i keep my heat at 65 (to avoid pipes freezing and to not have the heat go from off to fully heating the house, that costs alot too).... when we are home and its freezing like today, my heat is at 72-75. at night it goes down to 65-68. i wish i would've signed up for the budget plan. i really messed up but it was my first time paying for gas and i truly didnt know how high it could get. my gas bill is $70 for a one bedroom apt. i couldnt imagine the cost for a house! :( Jeni might live in a warmer area where it doesnt freeze all the time.
also, i dont think my apt is insulated! my landlord is crappy :( i live in a house.. i am on bottom floor. i dont think the roof is insulated and my heat literally goes "through the roof" haha
After watching your videos i have started making food plans for the week and setting a budget on what we spend on food!!! Its so great because i really do get carried away at the store and just tend to overspend. Your videos are truly inspiring and you are doing an amazing job !!!
This reminds me of my mom, who did receive government assistance when I was growing up but she budgeted very well. I had what I needed and even had some extras that made life a little bit more fun: I had magazine subscriptions, a Cosmetique subscription and I also had things that were important to the experience of high school like all four yearbooks, physicals required for tennis along with the equipment I needed and all my graduation stuff. People think I like to spend money left and right whenever I get any money in my hands but what they don't realize is how far I actually stretch it. They don't realize it because they just don't care to get to know me well enough. I also had an allowance in which I could buy what I wanted and if a dance came up that I wanted to go to my mom would spot me what I was short on. I have a high level of respect for single moms making their budget work. Your kids will remember this and it will become habit for them too. You're teaching them well. :D
I love your channel sweetly your and eexelente mom I'm mother of 3 and I know is hard!!!! Don't lisent to the negative people you doing great!!! You inspired me! God bless you and you family... Love from New York !!!!!! ;)
Hi! I just found you and your channel! I just wanted to say that you are so inspiring and amazing! You're an epitome of strength and courage. You smile with your head up! Your children will grow up to be amazing adults all because of your example of to be strong, no matter what you face in life!
I can't believe I read that keeping your house cold or too warm is child abuse. As long as the kids are bundled up, have a way to keep warm/cool it's okay. People way back when used to NOT have heating and air and they lived! I love your videos by the way. Love how real you are and the tips you provide all of us!!
Oh lord we've been under one of those Internet and basic cable bundle promos for a while, and it expired last month. We initially signed up for it because there were no fast internet options here that were cheaper than a bundle. Weird. Anyway I've called FOUR times to sign up for the new promo and bring our bill back down, gone through the 20 minute process of contract agreement etc aaaaand it still hasn't worked. I wanna just rip the cords out of the wall and give up but I have called every local option and know it's the best deal and I can't really not have Internet so I'm stuck dealing with these dummies. 😜 Felt the need to rant as a I gear up to call another time!
Nah ah, I wouldn't go without air conditioning. You have to be comfortable in your own home. Now that is something I would pay for....even before a cell phone! LOL
I totally agree with you on the doing things that don't cost anything... We do hikes and beach days.. Just pack lunch and make sure we have gas and we are good to go.. Love you and your boys.. 😘😘😘
We normally keep the house at 64degrees but during the day it is warmer just from movement and the sun I'm guessing, I die when I go in my friends house and they keep it at 74degrees! I live in WA but we use AC during too hot of days, im a whimp when it comes to heat. We also signed up for the "cheap hours" program where from 9am to 7pm our power is super super cheap. Then 7pm to 9am is alot more. Being a stay at home mom I save so much money since I do showers and laundry and things during the cheap time. I do have a rule that I don't really budget food, we have to eat but I do try to be cheap. Also if I need to buy something I always check craigslist or offerup first. I bought a $1,000 Costco gift card for $300 on there!
As far as heat goes, I always keep my thermostat at 55 degrees Fahrenheit throughout winter. You help the environment and can always wear jackets, fuzzy socks and use blankets =)
Great video! You are amazing and so impressed with how you make things work! Do you have life ins? If you don't, especially as a single mom, I would recommend it. You can get a term policy for super cheap with great coverage. I am in my 30s and pay about 17 dollars a month for a 250000 policy. At least it is something, although yes it could be more.
This is kind of how we budget too. We live on a very irregular income. I also call my internet provider whenever they raise the price for a promotion, and always tell them I will leave, but they always give it to me, so I didn't yet. I have a few videos about my budget if anyone wants to see. Thank you.
Good job on being able to have the temperature that low and surviving without AC. We use AC a lot in the summer, and it costs so much, but we use firewood in the winter for heat, so we save a lot there.
In Germany we don't have AC's and i only know them from our vacations in spain. During the summertime we have about 85 to 95 degrees /fahrenheit outside and sometimes inside but I just ventilate the house early in the morning and then keep the windows and outside blinds shut. At night we will open all windows and doors inside the house to let the fresh air in.
Ich frag mich ja auch, ob das so gesund ist?! Also AC.
I think it's very nice of you to share all of this info. with your subscribers. It's helpful, interesting and enlightening. I don't know that many people that would be willing to share this info. Are you a homeowner or a renter? I was wondering if I might have missed that info That's usually the largest bill you can have. I've never been a homeowner - only a renter. I don't have to pay for water, gas, etc. but my rent and food bills are massive. NYC is expensive.
OMG i can't belive that lots of people can't imagine living without AC. That is luxury for me to. Here were I live it's normal for not having a AC and you all are freaking about it. In summer temp goes to 37°C but its normal when you are not used to having AC!
I think that it depends on where you live. When I lived in the northwest, we did not have it. We are in Las Vegas now, and we have TWO central air units, one per floor. Most two story homes here are that way, but it would be unbearable here without it. It is over 100 daily for 3 months solid, some days getting up to 115. We keep it at 81 degrees in our house all summer, and our electric bill is still nearly $500 a month. Without AC our house would be over 110 degrees.
This video just motivated me soo much to go through my finances! I immediately changed my phone plan :D But just as you said, getting out of the Internet/TV bundle contract seems to be a bit more difficult...
Same here. We're in the Bay Area. We use both maybe a week out of the whole year. When I lived in south Florida, heaters were unheard of lol but AC...you can't even own a car without proper AC. The summers would run our power bill for $300-$400. It was dreaded
lobiapolo2012 ok lets say your income is 1100 a month ..and there was no other way of getting more income how would u handle it???? id really like to know so I can do it...if its a smartass remark then u don't have a clue to life
lobiapolo2012 to each their own and if she cant afford it she cant afford it...at least she is not living off the government ..I give her a thumbs up she is very frugal in ways and pays all her bills herself...If you even watch her videos you know she is always out and about with her kids not just sitting at home in the heat..
lobiapolo2012 nope, have never had a moment where I walk into my house at it be TOO hot or Freezing. its perfect... we live on a hill and get a great breeze. Im by no means cheap at all. Just not needed in MY home. I hate people who are disrespectful and judgemental. take your comments elseware.
There are cheaper ways to heat and cool a house. For instance space heaters can be a good option or you can look up a lot of ways to cool a home. One of them involves a plastic container, a fan and ice and it's supposed to lower the room by a few degrees. I have a window fan because we don't have AC either and as long as it's below 85 degrees outside it works really well!
I've seen some comments about getting someone to babysit drake, I'm a student myself.. if you lived by a college you could maybe look into students wanting to make a little extra money, it would be alot cheaper than daycare I recon. Maybe someone doing healthcare or teaching would be nice. Also have you thought about doing public speaking I think you have alot of tips for single mum's or maybe about health or money you could share, maybe contact a college about that! It might generate some extra cash :)! I think your doing a great job, we keep our heating off alot as students and just wear extra clothes haha I know how you feel :)! Xxxxxxx
You know you can get USAA for your vehicle insurance? If you don't have it, you should definitely look into it! We used to have State Farm until my husband joined the Army, now we have USAA and it's really cheap!
I know this video is from a loooong time ago lol but can you do a video about your binder you are referring to. If you have already then please post link to it. I'd love to see how you do your binder and keep organized, currently working on one for myself.
You may have said this and I may have missed it, but how do you budget or where in your budget do you put money for products like toilet paper and lunch baggies and such? And what amount do you allow for stuff like that?
I raised my son alone after 2 year marriage and worked 3 jobs and it was so hard.We did things like cheap matinee movies and the library and swap meets and the Tustin Acres 2 pools and the beach.. When my son turned 18 he went into the Marines and I met my husband and married for 38 years he just passed away. My son helped me take care of husband these last 2 years.and after his divorce moved in with us and he retired .When I was raising him we lived on $200.00 a month to start. Now I get my husbands full police officer retirement and my retirement and Social security for an income over $7000.00 a month.. and I put money in my savings every month and we live at the top of the mountains and can afford comfort..I think you are doing wonderful and I am proud of you. The only thing is missing my husband for I loved him so much.
A doctor once told my dad that keeping your house really cold keeps your kids from getting sick nearly as much. Do you find that to be true? I find if out heat is up too high we are all sick.
Do you have a specific time each month you pay bills, or do you pay them when they come in? How do you keep track of knowing you paid a bill and how much it was?
I am a single mama too and I agree with you. The times me and the kids make popcorn at home and watch movies on Netflix and act silly are the times they remember not the times I spend a lot of money. I am lucky enough to have my kids in K-12 virtual academy so they are home with me but still in a "school" per say. That might be something you look into for later. Although they need to be a little older for that, third grade I think. Its totally free. Good luck with everything.
Wow no heat would kill my family. Our heat bill is always $300. I am ok with that. We keep our central air at 71 and our heat on 75. I would like to knock down our cable/Internet bill and cell bill but I don't see any chance of that unfortunately.
I have the same problem with Target! I go in for one thing and end up spending over $50 EVERY TIME! I think maybe I should stop going, but they're the only store here that carries the hot teas I like. Though I will say my husband "helps" bring the total up wherever we shop with his Hot wheels addiction.
Love your videos!! I did have one question though with your food budget I am trying to lean towards more organic foods while my husband thinks its silly but I am trying to change how I and my family eats and so far I have lost over 10 pounds doing so anyways how did you introduce foods to your kids were they brought up with the more healthier foods (like less hamburger helper meals)? Hope this question makes sense I worked late last night :)
@candidmommy what is that website that you frivolously spend a monthly fee on? you said espy or etsy something like that. I didn't catch or understand what u said there
How much of your income do you put in savings? (Like the percentage). Do you have more than one savings method, such as one for short term, and one for long term?
Personally I don't think that 60○ is all that cold. We always wear sweats in the house in winter. And all these people saying that they have their heat on 70 even in summer is crazy. Average uk maximum temp is less than that and my heating doesn't come on at all between april and september. I am however very thankful for the NHS. Not having to pay for health insurance and all that junk is wonderful.
whats in your budget binder. im really interested in trying to save more. my fiance and i are mid 20's (im 24 he is 26) , no kids. we eat out often for no reason.. i feel like i work to eat out sometimes. we live in the city and there are many options so i believe that i why we do it. speaking of fiance... im engaged yet didnt pick a date yet bc im too nervous of the money part of it.. yet i spend $10 for lunch and $20-40 on dinner ahhhhhhhhh. ugh i really want to stop. can you to a DIY budget binder so we can make our own. i think that would be a great video. thank you!
Lol, why do you think we have pets? To keep us warm at night! :-) Oh and because they're cute and snuggly and we love them. I bought my husband an electric throw recently, and he is HUGELY pleased with it.
The single mom million dollar question... how do you get ahead/get by when you have no extra income? I have gotten myself so strapped and working out of this hole has been so hard, do you have any advice? I think you mentioned before something about selling things on ebay. Getting a 2nd job wouldn't help because what I would pay in daycare is as much as I would make. Thanks so much!!! I love your videos!!!!!! I look forward to them!!!!
We don't have cable as well. I feel the cable is not worth having. Now days there is to much nasty stuff on there anyways. I would much rather my family not even be subjected to it. We have Netflix and that work just fine for us, oh yeah and youtube. lol. Also I just wanted to say that your awesome. Keep up the good work. I love your videos. I think that it's wonderful that you don't even acknowledge the people with their nasty comments. So not worth it. :)
You know you could spend way less on groceries and not just serve roman noodles..:) I think its great that you have the money to buy organic, I just think most cant afford to do it..My budget is 500.00 a month and I get so much more food and variety but I don't buy organic unless it happens to be on sale for the same price as what I would normally would buy..great video..:)
If you upgrade to the new phone you lose the unlimited data. That's what I was told. So my husband and I are going on three years with our iPhone 4 but when our taxes come in we have to upgrade our phones bc they are not holding a charge.
What that's crazy, my husband has upgraded three times since we first got our iPhones back in 2009. He's still got his unlimited data, and currently has the 5c. Maybe it depends on where you go, we live on an Army post so that's where we go to get new phones. We just trade in our old ones and get the "new" ones for free. Although when we got the 5c they already had out the 5s, so the 5c was only $99.
Depending on your contract you can buy a new phone outright and keep the unlimited data. You just can't go into a new contract with unlimited anymore. My husband and I share 15 gigs and it work really well
Im so annoyed! with my upgraded phone they talked me into lowering my data to save money so I did but the lower data wasn't enough so I have had to add extra and now pay the same I did originally - I was on unlimited but the price for that now is ridiculous, I could kick myself!
I really like your videos and I admire you for everything you do ALONE!! Just wanted to ask you if you use coupons!? I am and I can not imagine not using them and Im not one of those haorders, no, just buy sale items with coupons when you have a chance and what you need. It can save you 100's of $ on cleaning supplies, detergents, soap and shampoo...even food, snacks, etc. If you're interested I can help you with it. Also, do you use credit cards or just live strictly on cash? Best Regards :)
It's hard to find a job for 2 or 3 hours and if you did it would probably pay less then what you would pay the babysitter!! Keep doing what ur doing and keep ur positive attitude and things will always work out.
Why when is summer you don't have air conditioner that is crazy my mom and me it would be terrible we will suffer I don't like it what would you do that it would be too hot I know it's for to save money but I won't do that
Add you probably don't want to answer this, but if you are willing, how much money do you actually make making youtube videos? Is it worth the mean comments?
@staylormade27 As far as I know, the youtubers who get money for their videos aren't allowed to talk about it. But a few weeks ago, a newspaper said, that they receive 0,004 Euro per click. So this would be approx. 0,005 $ per click.
I love these kinds of videos! Thank you for being so transparent and laying it all out for us! I find it really helpful with my own budgeting system and love hearing how others do it!

My mom kept the house at 55° at night and 60° tops during the day. She still does. Totally livable.
I agree. We just wear sweats (:
Holy crap! I would die! Growing up the house was always 70° in the summer and 72° in the winter probably 68° at night in the winter. But winter here I feel like is MUCH colder! Like it gets to -40°c on a regular basis!! Brrr

You can get car and rental insurance if u are a COSTCO member !!! Go onto the costco website!!! Much cheaper then other places!!!

Something I do to lower power bills is to unplug EVERYTHING I'm not using. You would be surprised how much money you save doing this!
Excellent tip!!
Does that really work? I have to try that!
Meghan Cuozzo it really does!
Yes. I've heard of phantom power use. I unplug as well.

I live in brazil, it gets pretty hot and most of us don't have ACs home. The other day we hit 45 C° and it was easily manageable with fans.
That color pink looks so pretty on you!
Thank you (:
Was about to say the same thing. This color does look really good on you.
I honestly admire you

Very helpful!! You are an amazing Mother!!
Could you show a sample of your binder and how you use it

Jennifer Fancher OMG your's electric bill is someone's montly salary here in croatia. For example cleaning lady's in school's, mall's etc.
This video just motivated me soo much to go through my finances! I immediately changed my phone plan :D But just as you said, getting out of the Internet/TV bundle contract seems to be a bit more difficult...
We don't run AC or heater either!! But we're in southern cal, it's not really needed except one week of bad heat and maybe one week of "freezing" haha

lobiapolo2012 to each their own and if she cant afford it she cant afford it...at least she is not living off the government ..I give her a thumbs up she is very frugal in ways and pays all her bills herself...If you even watch her videos you know she is always out and about with her kids not just sitting at home in the heat..
lobiapolo2012 nope, have never had a moment where I walk into my house at it be TOO hot or Freezing. its perfect... we live on a hill and get a great breeze.
Thank you for this post! Your an inspiration
Love your videos! Your so real and relatable! :)
I know this video is from a loooong time ago lol but can you do a video about your binder you are referring to. If you have already then please post link to it. I'd love to see how you do your binder and keep organized, currently working on one for myself.
How do you go about buying clothes and shoes with you budget ?
Have you tried couponing? There are websites that make it so easy now. They find all the deals for you.
What kind of workout do you do to stay healthy. Please share
I couldn't find the thredup link and I love this hoodie on you! what brand is it?
I have the same problem with Target! I go in for one thing and end up spending over $50 EVERY TIME! I think maybe I should stop going, but they're the only store here that carries the hot teas I like. Though I will say my husband "helps" bring the total up wherever we shop with his Hot wheels addiction.
Who is your internet provider through? $30 a month for fast Internet sounds amazing! We have centurylink high speed & we pay $64!
Thanks for sharing!
You are a great mom. All the best.
Hope this question makes sense I worked late last night :)
you should see if they have rate distributor for power
@candidmommy what is that website that you frivolously spend a monthly fee on? you said espy or etsy something like that. I didn't catch or understand what u said there
You are an amazing mom!!!
Roku or net gear box whatever cheaper ---- awesome for tv just runs on net !!! Love it with my kids.
How much of your income do you put in savings? (Like the percentage). Do you have more than one savings method, such as one for short term, and one for long term?
This video was really interesting and informative 😊
Are Deacon and Drake okay with it being cold in the house? By the way you are so amazing and humble! You are truly inspiring and I wish you the best!
love your vlogs
Personally I don't think that 60○ is all that cold. We always wear sweats in the house in winter. And all these people saying that they have their heat on 70 even in summer is crazy. Average uk maximum temp is less than that and my heating doesn't come on at all between april and september. I am however very thankful for the NHS. Not having to pay for health insurance and all that junk is wonderful.
whats in your budget binder. im really interested in trying to save more. my fiance and i are mid 20's (im 24 he is 26) , no kids. we eat out often for no reason.. i feel like i work to eat out sometimes. we live in the city and there are many options so i believe that i why we do it. speaking of fiance... im engaged yet didnt pick a date yet bc im too nervous of the money part of it.. yet i spend $10 for lunch and $20-40 on dinner ahhhhhhhhh. ugh i really want to stop. can you to a DIY budget binder so we can make our own. i think that would be a great video. thank you!
you can tell the end of the month bills are due cuz candidmommie is really cranking out the videos these days
She does a video everyday. She has her schedule in the down bar so I don't see any change in how many videos she has been uploading.
Money from TH-cam doesn't come instantly
Thank you for the video!
Jen, you don't have to tell viewers everything. You work hard. People are so nosy.
Hey, random question, but what ever happened to that GoFundMe fundraiser? Did you ever get that money? I hope you did/do, you deserve it.
I never would have guessed health insurance is that much in the states !!! Shocked !!
you should look into a chromecast so you can watch netflix and other apps on your tv
What camera do you use?
how much do u pay in rent i have sec 8 were the government pays for half my rent do u have that in ur state ?
How do u stay nice and trim?..How often do u get to the gym?
That no cable, $30 internet thing sounds good now that I think of it
Totally off topic, but your eyebrows look spot on in this video, soft and defined! :) Couldn't help but comment on this. xo
Thank you!!
You do well
Thank you (:
We don't have cable as well. I feel the cable is not worth having. Now days there is to much nasty stuff on there anyways. I would much rather my family not even be subjected to it. We have Netflix and that work just fine for us, oh yeah and youtube. lol. Also I just wanted to say that your awesome. Keep up the good work. I love your videos. I think that it's wonderful that you don't even acknowledge the people with their nasty comments. So not worth it. :)
You know you could spend way less on groceries and not just serve roman noodles..:) I think its great that you have the money to buy organic, I just think most cant afford to do it..My budget is 500.00 a month and I get so much more food and variety but I don't buy organic unless it happens to be on sale for the same price as what I would normally would buy..great video..:)
setting ur heat that low, I cant believe u leave it that low , why don't u work outat home, cancel ur gym thing and up ur heat more,
My husband is also grandfathered into the unlimited data!
Oh my no heat...I'm hot natured so I couldn't ever save money that way LOL .
Best Regards :)
awesome
Where do you have a gym membership for $10! That would be amazing
Do u have credit card debt too?
Is there anyway that you could get a young girl to come and babysit Drake for two or three hours twice a week so that you could work during that time?
Great thought!!!!!!
It's hard to find a job for 2 or 3 hours and if you did it would probably pay less then what you would pay the babysitter!! Keep doing what ur doing and keep ur positive attitude and things will always work out.
You should Coupon... I here its great in terms of savings...
Why when is summer you don't have air conditioner that is crazy my mom and me it would be terrible we will suffer I don't like it what would you do that it would be too hot I know it's for to save money but I won't do that
was wondering does your X husband pay child support, I no in a previous video you said he didn't .
Haven't gotten anything yet.
I don't he anything from my daughters father either and in a way I find it easier. Money=power and there's no way I'm giving up any power!
How is the law in America equitable to women, when they don't even oblige the ex-husband to pay for child support!!
Doing your income Tax Must be difficult
:-)
Add you probably don't want to answer this, but if you are willing, how much money do you actually make making youtube videos? Is it worth the mean comments?
@staylormade27 As far as I know, the youtubers who get money for their videos aren't allowed to talk about it.
But a few weeks ago, a newspaper said, that they receive 0,004 Euro per click. So this would be approx. 0,005 $ per click.
mrwebcelebs recently did a youtube video about candid mommy. it said she makes about $1,500 per month.
;)
