Thank you for this informative video.
My father was a school teacher. He had a bookcase on a landing in our house with old books and encyclopedias. I would sit ,as a child, and inspect the amazing colored swirls on the inside of the book covers. I though ," I want to be able to paint like that someday." But it was so very complicated I thought I would never attain that skill.
I grew up, my dad passed away, his books were donated to a school, the book case given to charity and the swirls lost their importance in my life. I later studied painting and researched different artistic expressions. I came upon marbling . I was beyond delighted to find that I could, indeed, attain this skill. I bought the paints, size, vats, combs, everything I needed and began to marble. I studied the technique and began. I was enchanted and smitten. The beauty of the results brought me such a sense of accomplishment.
Not long after I was shopping in a local resale shop for a cabinet to hold all of my supplies. I came upon a familiar sight. The small bookcase was carved with gothic arches just as my fathers, but this one was black. Could it be his? My son had " borrowed it at one point and, to my father's chagrin, had painted it red! I turned the bookcase around and around. No red. Then I scratched the black paint on a corner and red showed through like blood through a wound. It was dad's bookcase. Reunited. I instantly bought it and it stands in my livingroom, filled with old books with beautifully marbled endpapers that inspire my work today..

Lovely kitty cat 😻...Oh, those days when computers were so exciting and attractive...fast forward... I want to get away from it and get my hands dirty. I wonder what he would think nowadays. He passed away in 1995 of lung cancer...RIP.

Where does one get ox gall and the seaweed derivative ?

Easiest is to find them on Amazon. However, you can also find ox gall at an art supply store. Not exactly sure where to find carrageenan (seaweed derivative), possibly also also at an art supply or craft store, but you can search for suppliers.

If you're in the US: Talas in Brooklyn, or Colophon Arts in the Midwest both have marbling supplies, and they ship.
