The raag Lalit(a) is just pure ecstacy! if you can imagine thecine classic - ik Shah in Shan ne banayi- of Ravi and the indelible Taj scene of Dilipkumar and Vy.., also in Lalit, it is one step still higher.
Bhairavi is unique to Carnatic,The rasas bhairavi brings out are out of the world ..Bhairavi venkatasubbaih was a legend he had pawned raaga bhairavi and after the loan was paid by his wellwisher,he cud sing it again.Bairavi is in its peak in the must watch film Hamsageethe ,directed by none other than G.V.Iyer,Tamboori was hoisted up the rocky hills of Chitradurga,Ananthnag ,b.v karanth,has done a great job,Dr Balmurali krushna,similar to Abhishekjis divine voice.Kudos Jai Abhishek,jai Bhairavi.. Behag came alive in their.voices...Kale's Heerana,a nirguni Bhajan is anot to missed number
Mahesh kale has few fixed songs for all.his concerts...katiyar kaalizal ghusali songs and abhang kannada raja pandaricha. Needs to try other songs also
Actually....yes ......but .....STILL DIFFERENCE is there . Eventhough same song is there , but everytime in different aalap ,tana and all other singing skills also he experiments and implement there . It might be his usual part of RIYAJ and his own development in his musical skills....he enjoys it and share his joy with audience. One can easily identify every version.... In classical music , song will be same and creativity of artist matters lot ......if I am not wrong.
So what do you mean by music understanding? If it's melody, obviously the voice makes a difference. But technically, the variety of swaras, alaps etc. Abhishek is better. Mahesh Kale is better in sustaining high pitch notes.
Abhishek Raghuram is sublime in singing enhanced by his humility, Mahesh Kale is good as usual but too full of himself and arrogant, ptetending to be busy whike abhishek is singing, not bothered to applaud accompanists when they are felicitated etc.
Actually....in starting of performance, itself Mahesh Sir said that Abhishek Sir had promised to be kind with him .I think ,in their language, he wanted to say that Abhishek Sir himself offered to Mahesh Sir to present more .....I feel....
Hindustani music has more straight forward approach. So it is not difficult for Carnatic musicians to grasp it. Just need to practice that voice power and throw and it should be fine.
True but "not trying" isn't the reason lol actually if one of the founders of a hindustani gharana had incorporated the specific Carnatic gamakas in his own singing at some point of his life or teaching methodology itself only then it's possible else it's very hard for future students of that gharana to replicate Carnatic style, Like in case of kirana gharana ustad Abdul Karim Khan later on changed his style incorporating some of the gamakas etc from Carnatic and got quite heavily influenced from Carnatic style and I am quite sure that he taught that modified style to pt Sawai Gandharva(as it's clear from his singing style) and that passed on to pt Bhimsen Joshi etc hence one can say that there are 2 streams of kirana one in north(more closer to ustad Abdul's singing before he got influenced by Carnatic) and one in Karnataka+maharashta , with k+m being more influenced with Carnatic style for example I was listening to pt jayateerth mevundi's(who also learned from pt shripati padegar ,a direct disciple of pt Bhimsen ji) raag shankara rendition that he sang in ITC and was amazed to listen to the starting Alaap which sounded quite apart from normal hindustani but much more closer to Carnatic style which one doesn't really find in north side kirana gharana singers like Arshad Ali(although taan speed of both m+k kirana and north kirana is same, crazy lightening speed aakar and merukhand kirana taans if perfected ofcourse).And his gamakas were not sung in purely Carnatic way, he was just using his amazing kirana merukhand taan speed to sing them is my guess which isn't possible for other hindustani singers not belonging to m+k belt of kirana. Similarly in raag kirwani during singing jay durge durgati also he starts with that Carnatic style Alaap etc, pt kaivalya kumar gaurav is another ex. who have Carnatic touch incorporated in his style itself due to being from k+m belt of kirana gharana , So yes I agree that for a Carnatic musician it's relatively easier to sing the hindustani patterns since they are just mostly meend with some permutation of notes based on the chalan of raag(not necessarily the hindustani taans especially when compared to a master like ustad Amir khan and his lightening merukhand taans) compared to a hindustani classical singer who will need either assistance of a Carnatic guru or is from k+m belt of kirana.
Instead of torturing both streams of music, the artists and the rasikas like this, why can’t they have two separate shorter concerts that can do proper and full justice?
I think there is no question of justice. Both are strong at their end if we talk about RAGA GAYAN . Once music will start automatically their notes will come , actually it's joyful moment for both of them to swim into SWARAS . For this JOY, they can forget anything. BUT here ,if any one observe , one will find that inspite of this own JOY, both of them remembered each one's part and gave very simple touch or contribution in each one's performance.
