Classic classic classic! Talk about memories. Weekend World WAS Sunday afternoon. Ace soundtrack too. Glad to hear the clip included Brian Walden's legendary introduction 'Hello and Welcome' you really needed to be there to understand what it was all about.
Mountain's Leslie West mentions it in the liner notes to the reissue album: "Four hours every Sunday...Every commercial they played part of [the song]. The royalties were outstanding."
Funny thing is, when I heard the theme as a kid I never thought "that's heavy rock" I just thought it was a great little piece of music. Now to see Brian Walden appear immediately after that final guitar "BAM!" is quite amusing. Love the song, great Mountain track about whale hunters (even though I deplore wale hunting but that's another debate).
That was Joanne Woods on Ulster Television. She always came across as naturally professional, relaxed and reassuring - great attributes when presenting in this part of the world, especially in those days.
That was On the Record on the BBC. It was basically their version of Weekend World as was on around the same time on a sunday, but may have been after WW got cancelled.
"We gotta install microwave ovens, Custom kitchen deliveries, We gotta move these refrigerators, We gotta move these color TVvvvvvvvvvvss" Yep, thats what that intro reminded me of...
Was it also Weekend World which, during the early 90's, had a cartoon of the House of Commons crawling along like a monster and gobbling everything up, with a more synthesized theme tune than this? I think it was Brian Walden who presented.
to this day i can never name all of the famous buildings that the communications beam passes on its way around the world; 0:19 - big ben (st stephen's tower, clock tower, elizaebeth tower), london, uk. 0:23 - chrylser building (not the empire state building), new york, usa. 0:26 - kremlin, moscow, soviet union (russia) 0:30 - i think that is the famous shibuya crossing, in tokyo, japan. 0:35 - arc de triomph, paris, france. 0:38 - then this one, obviously some islamic country, the detail is wrong for the blue mosque in istanbul - so what and where is it? saudi arabia? iran? (and don't say britain these days! it was about 1985). (in between at 0:44 isn't the famous jordell bank in cheshire in the uk - that is used for space exploration not telecommunications - just a generic satellite uplink/downlink place). 0:50 - post office tower (telecom tower), london, uk. so can anyone accurately name them all?
When I hear this music I can smell the gravy that my mum was making for Sunday dinner when this was on.
Eighties Sunday’s, Weekend World, The Big Match, Bullseye, Antiques Roadshow, Howard’s Way, That’s Life...then bed...school in the morning!
Don't forget Spitting Image...

University Challenge still to follow, and Bullseye to come later on.

Bliss from the golden days of London Weekend Television on a Sunday afternoon ✅
Ah good old Bwian Walden!
The announcer at the beginning made me think of Victoria Wood... :-)

Bowl of soup and loads of buttered bread in front of the telly with this on, ahhhh the memories
Christ..you had it hard ..roast beef.. Yorkshire pudding etc cooked lovingly by Nanny...chin chin old boy
Just saying what's already been said, "get the roasties on!".
I wonder what Brian Walden made of that absolutely banging theme
"it wocks"
Its a shame no one has loaded up an old episodes or two with Brian Walden

The announcer read that intro like a six year old reading out loud in front of her class.
Always ate a bowl of cream of vegetable soup and a stack of white buttered bread when this was on
Hard rocking theme: "Nantucket Sleighride" by Mountain.
anyone know if Colin Willock's A Bird of 9 Colours was part of this series? Cheers Craig
Ha, ha, ha! That rocks, man.

It's Joanne Woods.
Who was the UTV continuity announcer?
Ciarán Masterson Johanne Woods
Was that UTV?
Yes.
It did indeed rock hard. All ready for Sunday lunch and that boring fart Walden
Then the axed the show in 1987
Great music the programme was a load of TOSH though.
Great theme: dull programme.
