  • Ted Clark worked as an electrician during the regeneration of Elswick & Benwell in the 1960's.
    In this reflective piece he talks about practical issues relating to the construction of the properties he worked on, and poses a number of questions about why they were so short lived.

    I lived next street up from Buddle Road, Matilda Street from 1962 to 1972. Was when the demolition of Benwell was happening. Never got over moving away from there aged 10!

    Got all nostalgic seeing the waste ground where the old houses of Helen/Joan Street once stood

    I lived on buddle road estate in the early 80s,the flat was great but the stairs were unbelievable to get up to the shops.
