I used this Ferry in 2016 on a motorbike tour. The Stena plus lounge has free tea and coffee etc. As I was tired, I upgraded to a cabin so had a great sleep, free tea and coffee, beer and wine.... and a fantastic shower :)
Thanks for putting this useful film that shows what to expect on the Harwich Ferry together, I am sure that it will alleviate people’s concerns if they have never taken their caravan abroad before 👍
Ahh thanks Ann. We were thinking whether to put it on or not as we didn’t really get that much footage but as we searched on TH-cam there wasn’t really much about it so thought something is better than nothing. Thanks for you kind comments. 👍👍😊
Did this as a foot passenger for 2.5 year every 3 weeks but from Holland and used the overnight ferry. Back to Holland the next day at midnight. Benefit, you arrive well rested at 8 am in NL.
Thanks Louise, you know what we are like for searching for the discounts and this was the best deal that was out there. It was a substantial saving but would always suggest shopping around as the prices fluctuate so much depending on the time of travel. 👍👍
Hay I wish I could just get my partner to drive towing let alone going on a ferry so great to see a lady with the confidence to do it . great vids to watch as always have fun and even more fun guys
I always book the premium ticket when travelling by Stena, gives you priority boarding and disembarking the ship as well as the Plus Lounge, selection of free drinks, snacks and a full meal service, well worth the extra cost.
Lovely detailed video,I've been to Holland with my caravan and you can get a but anxious and with the unit on the back you have to think a bit quicker, have to say those stenna ferrys look so much nicer to travel on than P & O
Great video, but you've got you 'Front' and 'back' of the boat mixed up. The cabins are great too with complimentary minibar and tea/coffee. they are only£30 on a day sailing
Hi, a very informative video! I was just wondering what else they ask at the check-in. Is it just passport and tickets? Did they not ask you to provide for example car insurance documents?
No we weren’t asked for anything else although with the changes from Brexit they do sometimes check your fridge to make sure you are not taking any fresh produce in to europe.
I originally come from the UK But living in Holland, fam living in Essex, but we still travel to Dunkirk or Calais to get to England. It's still cheaper. Yeah it's a good 3 and a half hr ride from my place to France, but worth it. A shame Stena took out the HSS ferry. Use to sail with that. Just under 4 hours in Harwich. From hoek van Holland. Great video tho☺️☺️
Thank you for such a helpful & detailed video about the Stena Line Car Ferry from Harwich to the Hook of Holland. Those car ferries are very well equipped & very spacious indeed. Also they have stabilizers that activate in stormy weather to make the crossing more comfortable. I hope you had a good caravan holiday last year in Holland. Did you stay anywhere nice over there? This video brings back memories of my holiday in late October last year when I went over to Holland from Harwich on the car ferry with my car to stay with friends who live about 5 miles from the Hook of Holland port. I have always believed that Britain & the Netherlands are good friends & we have a lot in common with the Dutch in so many ways.
Thank you Matthew, we had a short stay on a lovely farm site with its own dairy. We then headed up to Sweden via Germany and Denmark. We are due to go back to Holland next year but we will have to see how things develop. The people are wonderful, very friendly and kind. All the best for 2021 😊 Karina
Going to be catching the ferry on Friday evening for a night crossing (will be my first time driving in Europe). Is it clear enough when you get off the at either end?
we're doing that route soon. any tips for leaving the Hook ferry port please? we're in a Ducato-based Camper heading just the other side of the Hague. ta
We found it took along time to clear the port, but that was probably the time of year. It is really easy to drive out of but have your directions ready for where to turn as you drive out as you are quickly on the roads. We found it easy to drive out so you will have no problems I am sure. Just be aware of giving way to cyclists. Have a fantastic trip😊 Karina
Was there WiFi Internet service? Did it have an extra fee? How about the standard GSM network? Was there any Mobile Signal on the ferry? Which country did the network belong to if there was any signal?
🤔 There was wifi that you could pay for but I cannot tell you about the network or what that charge would be in 2022. There website may have the answers. Thank you for watching, Karina
I've heard that the journey is pleasant and the ferry price itself is quite reasonable, but apparently the food prices are obscene... did you find this to be so?
Take the night boat, check in, board, have a shower, a three course meal with a bottle of plonk in the 'Metropolitan Restaurant' , another shower, go to bed and wake up in time for breakfast, another shower and disembark, 30 ish minutes by train to Rotterdam, an hour or so to Amsterdam, arrive refreshed and just in time for lunch, the only civilised way to travel.
Hi Mark. We did take our dog with us. We left him in the car as this is what he is used to and likes the security of being somewhere familiar. I don’t think that they do have the facilities for dogs to do their business I could only imagine that the kennels may be able to assist with that. 👍
For anyone like myself who haven’t used a ferry yet that was an excellent overview Jules, you covered every aspect well. Personally speaking sad to see gambling machines on board, is no where free from those curses to society, (just my view). Other than that the facilities on board looked good and with plenty of options to vary time spent on board. 👍👍👍
Thank you Geo - yes they do get everywhere, we must say that with taking some electrical items on and chargers it whiled away the hours nicely. One thing I didn’t mention on the vlog was getting in excess of a £40 extra charge on my mobile service provider bill as I apparently connected to the the Maritime Network. After speaking to my mobile service provider I had not even used 7KB of data to rack up this charge - so be warned for any ferry crossing put your phone onto flight mode / turn off data roaming as it could be extremely costly - I even have unlimited data (because of all this we do) and free to roam but this is not covered. So just a warning. 👍👍
I look forward to Jules response but I think the Ferry company would be quite upset if they knew gas bottles were turned on during the voyage. Gas should always be off when caravans are hitched and being towed.
Good Morning, in short we turn it off. It SHOULD not draw power from the car when hooked up and the engine off but we weren’t taking that chance as have heard tales of people car battery being drained on their return. I would never leave gas on whilst travelling at all. The fridge should say cool enough with the residual cold inside as long as the door isn’t opened. Thanks for commenting as always. 👍👍
Hi Sandra, unfortunately we didn’t as we were directed straight to the decks due to all the vehicles still being sited. The only options on this one was either the kennels or to stop in the car. I have checked this on google and the pictures can be found here - bit.ly/HWT-Kennels Hope this helps. 👍
The dog facilities are great if your pup is used to being kennelled. Clean and bright, you can visit your dog at anytime and if you have a cabin you can watch them on a dedicated TV channel.
🤣🤣🤣 I suspect you have to shave your legs to reduce wind resistance. I hear all good athletes do it. It must be so you can keep up with Karina when you film the departure videos.
