Pretty much, yeah.
It's a game people tend to overthink when Kojima just enjoys making really weird games because people have, and will continue to, pay him to do so. Death Stranding is legit just an excuse for him to either put his friends in a video game (Junji Ito and Del Toro) or make friends with movie people so he can do what he actually wants to do (which is make movies).

Switching out the Mortal Kombat bookends for the Dead Island Riptide: Zombie Bait Edition bikini torso would have been a better choice. Those bookends are surprisingly muted compared to what a game series like MK could have done.

Ya tbh the MK one isn't terrible whatsoever, I'm one of those die hard MK fans, and while I don't have this, I wouldn't mind owning it. I'd have to start reading again however for it to have any relevance in my life.
I actually have the bookends and have proudly displayed them since 2011! My wife even likes them. I currently use them as ends to my junji ito collection. To a horror/MK fan, they're great!
I had the bookends as well when I pre-ordered it for the PS3 and I loved them. Didn't have any books though unfortunately....

For a Mortal kombat fan that like reading, I'd say they would be
i mean, i find them pretty fine looking and i dont think they should even be on the list. If someone saw that on your shelf, they would probably think "oh they are just characters from some bloody videogame". With the others though, the naked woman with a glow in the dark fetus from fear 3, the fuckin baby from death stranding, the re7 finger that looks like a dildo, most of the others on this list, out of context they legit look very weird and not something someone would relate to a videogame

Richard Garriot has done some odd things over his career. Back when his game of the week was Tabula Rasa he did the space tourist thing and spent time on the ISS. Because I was the first to decrypt a message he held up from the crew capsule I got a mission patch signed by the station's crew. It's one of maybe three or four game thingies I still have.

yeah the FEAR series was one of the first i got on 360...now i have them all: FEAR, Fear: Files (expansion packs of FEAR), FEAR 2, and F3AR. the early games were much more scary (for the time anyway) and were good at making you feel like you were in a indy horror...or japanese horror...it didn't focus on graphics...just game play. FEAR 2 was still semi-scary but the graphics were better...there was certainly a greater supernatural threat level in FEAR 2. F3AR almost completley abandoned horror...focused mostly on the shooter aspect. i still think it's a great trilogy though...it does well and trying to make you think this Alma is the villain when really she is the victim (similar to certain Japanese horror films)

The trick is to put the glow in the dark pregnant atrocity in between the Mortal Kombat bookends so Scorpion is impaling both Sub-Zero and a horror fetus in one go.
Put everything but the locker between them so Scorpion is impaling all of the red flags you can position into the trajectory.

One thing i learned about the Special Editions is that most of the items look cool but are shit quality. I bought 3 in my life, the COD Modern Warfare 2 with the Nightvision that you can't see shit, the Skyrim with Alduin which look cool but made of cheap plastic and the Elder Scrolls Online with Molag Bal also cheap plastic and his mace fell off.

Duke Nukem Forever - Balls of Steel Edition. I don’t know what’s harder to explain: the colorless bust of a random dude in shades, the name of the package, or the fact you waited 12 years for that game.
And it wasn't even a Duke Nukem game. It was some other FPS with a Duke Nukem coat of paint. Feels nothing like any of the previous four games in the franchise, and considering three of those were platformers, the fact that Duke 3D still managed to feel like it belonged was pretty impressive.
I bought that cheaply later.

Dead Rising 2 had a rather quirky collectors edition, Zombrex Edition as it was called. Wherein you had the game case, styled like a pillbox, and a pen shaped like a syringe full of the fictional anti-zombifying drug Zombrex. Perhaps not the most morbid collectors item, but that probably would raise some eyebrows to have what appears to be a syringe full of an unknown blue fluid lying on your desk or coffee table.

Bought the Death Stranding Collectors edition a couple weeks ago. Showed my family the BB statue and my sister’s friend was in tears over how horrifying it looked. I love it especially since it lights up and can horrify my family even more. 10/10 would scare family with it again.

Ahhhh Jane...my date was long gone before she'd ever see the statues, because she has never existed.
I had the book ends and they are actually very cool and detailed. Way better than anything else on this list. And the book ends are actually meant to be used for your games so you can display them up right on the shelf with s certain flare.
After 9 years I now know that the FEAR 3 figure glows in the dark! The more you know. Also, yes, I have that figure. I don't know why because I haven't even installed the game or played it even once. Might be because at the time collector's editions were still pretty rare store shelf products here and I probably figured out that buying it was special. Oh well, I think it cost a total of 20 bucks when I bought it.

The people who pre-ordered the collector's edition of Doom 2016 got a 12 inch Revenant statue as it's depicted in the game, a very tall skeleton smeared with gore equipped with twin rocket launchers.
My first thought was "yeah but that's cool!" Closely followed by "I'm so glad I'm already married."
On the plus side there arent many jars that can hold foot tall figures.
