Rachmaninov Prelude in Dmaj op 23. no 4.

  • There is not a lot of Rachmaninov that I can play! This prelude is very famous and very beautiful. One tries to keep the melodic line shining through whilst surrounding it with accompaniment. The last section has the famous "Russian Bells" where you want to keep the high (octave) notes quiet.

    Two beautiful Rachmaninoff pieces, beautifully played, Neil.
    You are up there with Stephen Hough whom I saw play another Rach piece, his third PC at the Sheldonian in Oxford this week. Rather a faster piece, enjoyed it as much as yours 😊.

      Stephen played an encore, a slow piece by Rubinstein, Tchaikovsky's teacher, who in turn taught Rachmaninoff; said Stephen. The last time I heard Sir Hough was in Adelaide with the ASO about 30 years ago. The Sheldonian programme mentioned the ASO, so must be an enduring relationship.
