The 2024-25 season marks the 50th anniversary of Carlisle's one and only season in the old First Division (1974-75). Carlisle started the season well beating Chelsea 2 - 0 at Stamford Bridge. After 3 games they were top of the league for the only time in their history. Unfortunately they couldn't keep up their good start and were relegated.
To drive between Carlisle and Barrow is best part of two hours. The fact is that there’s no connection really between the two areas. People from Barrow gravitate to Lancaster or Preston. I am a Carlisle person who had the huge pleasure of living in Barrow. It’s a great place, the Barrow people were by nature very welcoming and hugely comedic people. Carlisle feels more like the North East and Barrow more like the North West. Yeah both in Cumbria but in my day Lancaster or Morecambe was the Derby for Barrow.
@@Dantianblue Cumbria is still a county. The only difference is that it’s split into two with unitary authorities which are NOT counties. Cumbria is still the county and lieutenancy. So Carlisle and Barrow are still in the same ceremonial county.
This is an extremely so fantastic derby to watch and well played to both of the respective teams, good friends!!!👍🏾

This has to be the furthest distance apart between two teams in a local derby
Cumbrian derby

@@jimmycburfield5997I’m from Carlisle, it’s definitely its own entity. Wouldn’t say it feels like the North east at all.
No longer in the same county. Carlisle Morecambe is just as much a Derby as this.
