you are a fantastic man, thanks for this kind of videos, I just have a problem when I design my coil for WPT system by myself, it is a different design. Maxwell took a long time to make ATU preserving true surface nodes! it does not go ahead in progress, just stop at it!
Thank you so much Kamyar, with my 1st time using Maxwell, I have been able to have a good idea about the software thanks to you. I have a question, I am designing a WPT coil, however, the allowed space to fit the coil in is actually rectangular, so I am planning to design a rectangular planar spiral coil with circular cross section for the wires, Is there a way to define the rectangular spiral with circular wire? The available for me based on what you explained is to define a rectangular spiral with rectangular cross section. Thanks in advance. Your help will be so appreciated.

Hi Kamyar! I could realize you have a good knowledge about this topic. I want to design an inductor on pcb, but I'd like to make some analysis like format, wide, number of turns, materials etc. I also would like to measure some parameters like inductance, resistance and the most important the magnetic field around the coil. I'm a little lost with softwares like this one, But I think it's possible to make that. Could you give some advices about that? I've heard about Maxwell, COMSOL, quickfield, but I don't know which is the best in my case! Thanks and I'm waiting for your answer!
Hi Marcos, In my personal opinion Ansoft's engines are the Best. I have worked with COMSOL as well, and I did not like it at all. They have tremendous problem in just meshing the structure, despite the fact that the solutions might surprises you too. anyhow, for all those parameters that you asked, the easier way is to use maxwell and simplorer side by side. please watch the tutorials that I prepared for Maxwell-simplorer co-simulations. hopefully it would answer your questions.
Hi. Thank you for this very helpful tutorial. I have a question regarding the modeling of litz wire in Maxwell. I'm not sure if this is possible or if Maxwell provides an easy approach to this. I want to model a helix circular coil but with a litz wire. I hope you can help on this. Thank you.
TH-cam 1 Basically eddy current has very little skin effect on litz wires. that means that in higher frequencies the quality factor would not drop due to the increase in AC resistance. You can simulate that by choosing stranded option when you are applying a current excitation in maxwell. Stranded option will omit the effect of eddy current which is basically what you are having when you are using litz wires.
Thanks a lot. Is it possible to clarify how it can be measured and drawing specifications metal piece of iron (such as permeability , conductivity and resistance) if you put this piece inside the Helix coil used for induction heating. How can draw resistance during the heating processز
The Paper (Induction Heating Applications) gives Figure 2. Temperature-dependent data for target object which shows that the permeability, conductivity and resistivity change with temperature. How can I get these results. Thank you very muchز
That is possible if you define the permeability of the materials as function of temperature (?) that is easy in Comsol Multiphysics but here you have to jump to thermal solver by ansys and link them with work station software . did I answer your Q?
hi Kamyar, how can HFSS be used like Maxwell? with some different parameters between the two? Please share the easiest way to use HFSS like the simulation done by Maxwell?
Hi HFSS can provide you s/z-parameters which can be later used for extracting inductance and capacitances. It’s mainly used when frequency of operation is high enough that full wave solver is used. That’s when longest length in your design is about 1/6 of your wavelength of frequency. If your frequency is low enough that your wavelength is much larger than your design dimensions don’t bother. Use Maxwell it’s designed for low frequency applications, it’s capable of post processing all commonly used parameters ( like self and mutual inductance, losses and etc).
Hello kamyar K, thanks for this tutorial how to calculate the parasitic capacitance of a planar inductor? how to achieve "Assign Excitations"? in this case
ammouri aymen I am making new rounds of tutorials for electroestatic simulations. stay toned. But in brief you do the same things you have done or magnetoestatic , for electroestatic. electroestatic gives you the parasitic caps.
Liang-Shun Chang Hi, the thickness is one the parameters that you can change when you are creating the coil. However if you want to have fully parametric coil you can follow the tutorial that I have uploaded that is showing a rectangular coil design. let me know if you still have Q.
***** Hello, thanks for your response. But for some purpose, I need use polygon-helix type of coil for analysis. I had seen the "Modeling a simple WPT parametric (generic) Coil, part 1 to part 3", but this way did not suit my purpose. If used polygon-helix, how could I change the coil's thickness? Thanks for your help! I tried to change the "polygon radius", this way could adjust thickness, but the exact value of thickness equal to 1.414*polygon radius. Is there other way to change the coil thickness?
Hello, Thanks a lot for your tutorial. Is it possible to create a helix circular coil with rectangular shape and different dimensions for trace width and height? Regards, Tim
+Tim Gerbert yes. You should defined the points with a custom line then in the properties of the line define the cross section that you like. Fully customizable. I have similar tutorials on my channel for that.
Hi Kamyar! First of all many thanks for your extremely useful tututorials! However I didn't understand how to design a rectangular cross-section coil with different widths per turns, could you please link the tutorial wich you were referring to? Thank you in advance!
Hi Kamyar, how to add or set excitation for this kind of coil or helix coil,I am simulating a helix coil (generated by user defined primitive),but I always get some wrong message when I trying to add exication to the coil (current excitation ,one face for iuput and other for output), is there some special set for this? Sincerely hope you can help me.Thanks.

Hi sir, iam doing WPT in Ansys maxwell. When i am running the simulation error message saying " cannot find the matching inductor in the imported file" was displaying. Plese can u help me how to resolve the error. Waiting for your response. Please help me sir.
Thanks a lot for your tutoriaL,how can modeling helix circular coil with FEKO helix circular coiL mean that we have 0 pitch angle and constant radius how can i simulate by feko
Workbench connect maxwell to other simulators. You can use the results of maxwell to find deformation or temperature increase with ansys fluid or mechanical.
Thank you for helping me to know how to draw helix!

Hi Man, I can't see the User defined Primitives in my HFSS. What can I do?
Is there a way to install them or what?
How about HFSS? You didn`t address solution and port setups for HFSS, did you?
Excellent!

Hi,
The excitation plane should not be inside the boundary. it should touch the boundary face. for more watch the successive tutorials...
Thanks for your advice,I have got this.
Sir please tell me how to find input and output power of the coil??????
I have the standard ANSYS workbench mainly for mechanical systems. Can modelling only be achieved through ansys MAXWELL?
+Tjam J29:13 yes, Ansys Maxwell is pretty powerful. you can do many things with its modeler. things like bending, imprinting and more..
+kamyar K i appreciate your videos and i think they are awesome btw. I was wondering if you had much experience with COMsol multiphysics?
I do have experience using COMSOL for 2 years .
+kamyar K if you could walk me through inductor modelling by comsol or can suggest easily digestible material on it I'll be eternally grateful
I found their samples and example files very helpful go to their website and find many examples they are providing for free. You just need to sign up for free.
