This happened to me. I had to attach a tool to an overhead crane. When I did, the tool's ring in my left hand, and the crane hook in my right, electricity grabbed me, and I could not let go of either items. All I could is watch my hand like this Chimp, and pray to God it would let go as I screamed as loud as I could. My hand slipped off the crane hook, and I'm still alive.

You can see that he does get electrocuted. At 1:10 right as he grabs the wire his whole body tenses up and he goes completely stiff as he's falling. Tranquilizer would cause him to go limp not stiff.

I'm gonna go out on a "limb" to say that chimp was pissed about getting darted...
If you play it in reverse from 1:36 it looks like the chimp had a double jump to get high enough to grab hold of the line.
