I think it was here that it loses some of its roots, and began to make more about the graphics than epic story and gameplay values. Don't get me wrong, but it got the high standard of graphics and other noteable stuff. I love ot to the death. But the focus loses of the quality of the stories and gameplay that they had.
To be honest, FFVII would've looked like this aswell, if they were making it to the ps1 from the very beginning . FFVIII was a risky game to be released, they wanted to make it different, and they did a good job, sadly lots of people didnt like this change, theres a reason why FFIX went back to the original roots.

slashingraven It's not like they are forced to the original song. Look at what they're doing to FFVII, it's nothing like the original and even the soundtrack isn't composed by Uematsu anymore, so nothing stops them from covering the song.

Even making a proper version of the first 3 would be epic.. to create those worlds in a realistic 3d world. Sadly 7 was the first one I played so trying to go back to play the first few is hard to get past the visuals. A remake of them would breathe life into them again.. especially considering they had some great stories (and music) too
Final fantasy era before voice overs are the bestt! The music carries the scenes and moments making them more memorable! I miss final fantasy before the talkies...
I never played this game because i only have pc back when i was a kid, but i found out about this game from the ballroom dance scene- i watched it from a cd which featured this scene together with the song “Kiss When The Sun Don’t Shine” by Vengaboys and it was so sweet seeing Squall and Rinoa on the dance floor. I managed to watch the whole walkthrough of this game and i love love love it. The ending was really beautiful :’)
FF8's world is marvelous!! Love the aesthetics, architecture and designs!! And the CGI and waltz scenes, truly a dedication to the level square operated, even back then.

@@soricaleido the steam version is a failure, it needs mods to make it beautiful... and remaster is impossible because the source codes are lost and copyright issue of some songs like eyes on me... they need to work from scratch on making a remaster or a full remaster like shadow of the colossus... remake like ff7 is the best option to revive ff8

wait I had no idea that they motion captured the ballroom dance scene in FF8. I thought they had to manually animate it similar to what Konami did with the first Silent Hill cutscenes, this looks awesome. Seeing this cutscenes brings back childhood memories.
Maybe not the best Final Fantasy by gameplay and story but the best Final Fantasy by design. I not trying to be Jpop like on the last few Final Fantasies and the character designs and the over all art design is just so good.

I somewhat wish they would do an FF8 Remake (or any FF he worked on), and try their best to emulate the hand drawn style of Yoshitaka Amano. The concept art of this game had a very unique style for the characters that, while I love the original game, did not translate at all into the final product. I don't really see what he drew represented in FF8. So imagine a game where instead of trying to enhance the game that we played, instead they went back to the early stages and said "Given the concept art, and the technology that exists today, what would we have done if this game had been made new today instead of in the 90s? If we had the cel shading techniques of today?" If you look up a video called "Final Fantasy XV - Yoshitaka Amano 'Big Bang' Art" that gives you 10% of what my mind is conjuring up when I picture this.

I had a bad dream that I was playing FF8 on PC and forgot to kill squall so he doesn't level up and he got leveled up and I was like 'oh no' and then I woke up. I still haven't gotten around to replaying the game without leveling Squall because of all the new games and life always gets in the way of my big list of things to do when I don't have anything to do.
Come on Square Enix. FF8 is basically like Harry Potter with schools of fking magic. Just reintroduce this game to the new generation and they'll gobble it up.

Last titles of SE been more tragic and darker, people just don't care about romance in FF anymore.
Nobuo uematsu left, romance can only be as good as the ingame music/song, they use generic song in ff15 instead.
