Walking to Finisterre and Muxía: Camino de Santiago Guide (Epilogue)

- ¡Ultreia! The pilgrims’ salute to “carry on” and “journey beyond” what’s possible. We made it! We walked to the End of the World and the Coast of Death (Finisterre and La Costa da Morte) and it was fantastic.
This is part 11 (AKA the Epilogue) of our Camino Norte journey as we go beyond Santiago de Compostela to Fisterra and Muxía. We hiked 117.5 km from Santiago de Compostela to Fisterre and Muxía in 5 days.
This is our first time walking the Camino Del Norte. We hiked the Camino del Norte during June, July, and August of 2019, finishing the route in 46 days (including Finisterre and Muxia). In 2017, we walked the Camino Frances from Saint Jean Pied du Port to Santiago de Compostela. We packed ultralight bags for both journeys.

I have a Sun Hat by Sunday Afternoons - the dorkiest hat EVER; BUT the best sun protection hat I’ve found. I did notice one of you wearing a dorky hat - but I won’t mention her by name. They ARE good hats!

Lainey here! Thanks for watching, Robin! I loooove my dorky Sunday Afternoons hat. It's way better than a sunburn. For the poles, I'm super hard on my sticks. These were really cheap ones I bought in Spain and after 1,000 KM, they just broke. There's tons of concrete walking on the Camino Norte and when I wore through my rubber tips (because I'm a monster), the metal was scraping and pushing up on the stick. Super unpleasant! I'm on a constant journey to better hiking pole use. :)
@@DaysWeSpend I have heard about all the concrete - most seasoned pole users take off the rubber/plastic tips as they are just protection for and from the carbide tips; then you have “clunk”, “clunk”, “clunk”………. Then there are some pole makers who DO intend for the rubber tips to be used.
The wrist-strap is a very important part of the whole pole - I didn’t see you with it on - once. It means that you don’t have to have a “Death Grip” on your pole.
Seeing that you are working out were to walk next - there is a pilgrimage from Paris which connects up with the Camino Norte or Fraçais; called Chemin de St Jacques de Compostelle; just a thought.

Great suggestions for future pilgrimages. We've also got our eyes on the Le Puy route and the Via Francigena.
We do use our wrist straps correctly. Due to the loud sounds of cheap poles, we both don't really use them in cities since they're too noisy for local residents.
I thought that the rubber tips were for concrete and hard surfaces? It protects the metal end for dirt/trail paths. The rubber tips also give more "bite" on concrete for the forward propulsion. I wore through 7 sets of tips on the Norte. Shawn only wore through one set.
@@DaysWeSpend Couple of tips for you: for pole rubber-tips that last for a whole camino and longer buy the brand Leki, especially the tips they do that are shaped like a little boot. They're made of the same stuff as car tyres and really do last. Also, check out Pacer Poles (google that) for really great hiking poles that don't rely on straps at all. They have an angled ergonomic grip instead. Once you try them out you won't want to go back!

What is the significance of the Muxia destination ?
Catholics believe that St. James came to Muxía and met the Virgin Mary. She appeared to him on a boat made of stone. The stone boat ran aground where the church is now built. Legend has it that many of the stones on the peninsula are from the boat.
