- After about a month hiatus, Nintendo has released a brand new Ninji Speedrun called 'Headgear Hustle' that is Super Mario 3D World style and focuses on the new hat items that released in the version 3.0 update!

If you are reading this DGR I have an idea for optimization. When you use the pow to get the 4th coin try to open up the right and when you are coming back with the goomba mask you can get the pow coin with incredible optimization. This is an idea but I haven’t tested it yet

A time save I noticed: for the coin buried in bricks, Dave always hit with the pow underneath, went back and around to collect it, and then ran through the tunnel he made after the goomba part. But if you hit the pow a block more to the right, it opens a path to the next section. Dave could go through there, so he wouldn’t have to go backwards, and then collect the coin when he was running through with the goomba hat.
I'm at a 28.528, and I've had quite a few runs on pace to beat it, and the pressure causes me to choke and mess up an easy jump or hit Mario's head. It's a little bit annoying :')
Love your vids and I think you have a pretty good time on this one! I also set a goal, sub 30 seconds, and kept going even after I beat it, it's a pretty fun level, I love these new power ups! I'm using Panga's route to run it
I actually really like how creative and open this Ninji Speedrun in particular is. It feels like an open world style, as in there's no direct way to go about it with limitless possibilities for completing it. You can solve it in any order you want.
DGR, when you use your last pow DON'T get the pink coin. Instead go straight down for the mushroom helmet. Then when you go through the pipe, grab the pink coin. You may shave off a couple seconds. You are wasting time jumping up to get the coin. Also, you will have to hit the final pow a few spaces to the right of where you do so you break the blocks to the right and can jump through there.
This ninji speedrun is really fun, it's actually the first one I tried and after I started I just couldn't stop anymore. A whole hour passed in the blink of an eye. My pb is now 30.411, which I am quite happy with (used Panga's route, not DGR's, but this video was the one that got me to try it out).
I feel like with a level so open, seeing the entire level (like in the level editor where you can kinda see the bigger picture) would really help for seeing routes that aren't as obvious. Like seeing hidden passage ways along the bottom or something
0:25 ... this makes me upset that Nintendo ignores their own limit for a level description, while players are forced to make do with barely 2 lines.

Here's my suggestion for this ninji speedrun: At the end don't jump, you don't hit max speed if you jump (This includes long jumps)
Long jumping is faster just long jump and jump as you hit the ground it saves quite a bit of time

Sorry that im not dave but I got a few ideas
1. Dont spam enimies
2. Be creative with your levels and pay attention to detail
3.make sure not to make it to hard make it the way I like it
4.try to have a theme to ur course
5.make sure to reward the player for exploring the world
6.make sure the player has a good time and give them coins (not to much) and a few power ups to help them along there way
I have a tip for you for if you want to unlock night mode: The first time you have to change the angry sun into the moon. (The first time, I saw people pressing a button wich I didn't have, and I didn't know how to unlock it 😅) but maybe you already new... Answer to this message and send your makers code if you want me to play your levels :)

Tip: The spot where you hit the third pow block, try going more right so that you don’t lose momentum heading right after collecting the 3rd coin. This will allow you to clear the blocks that are in front of you and you don’t have to turn around and go left to jump up to collect coin. Instead continue to the gumba section without collecting your usual 4th coin. Once you collect gumba coin and head through pipe that’s where you collect the last coin (on the way to door) maybe this method could get you sub 30 seconds?
This speed run was so addicting to me! I loved every part of it!

I think this ninji speedrun is rally awesome because it doesnt really follow the normal makings of a speedrun level because threre is no set path also dgr thank you for making all these awesome videos!
Really enjoyed this speed run. I have not enjoyed playing some the others but really enjoyed the strategy it had and trying all different paths to speed things up. Think having the bullet bill to reach the flag post is the fast end route but not sure how to run the rest of it to put me there.

You can't go into that pipe because there is no ground directely underneath it
You can't go through pipes in mid-air. Obviously he would've tried that at 9:28 when the cannon wasn't working :P
And he can get the coin in the bricks after the gumba part

@DGR I thought it was clever and logical with room for a skip. Very satisfying. It was the first speedrun where I was picking up on strats and it felt so natural and clean and like it wanted to flow.

I really like this setup. The others were a race with multiple paths, this is more of an open playground. It seems like there are a TON of different ways to do it well.
At 1:42 you use the Pow on the middle box. If you look closer, you did break the blocks on the top enough to reach the red coin. You might wanna continue towards the goomba instead of making an U-turn for that coin, and picking it up as a second coin while a goomba on your way to the door.
Great job. I was hesitant when I first saw this Ninji but it was actually really cool!

It's cool that the bullet bill mask and red POW box give you access to invincibility frames without taking damage.
If you hit the 3rd pow a little more to the right you can skip cion 4, and you pick it up after the next coin on the way back to the key door, this should save you a few more seconds.

for the red coin that you got by hitting the block under it, you can get that last by getting it after you get the coin you got with the goomba as you are passing it anyways and its wasting time by jumping up there beforehand

When I first saw this level, I knew it would be interesting to see the speedruns
15:02 when he goes through the door the timer stops at 666 :O
Use the pow under the red coin, but don't stop to grab it. You can get it on the way back when you have the goomba head on. You have to be one block farther right so you clear the blocks in front of you to run out that side instead if backtracking.
If you hit the pow hat one block farther to the right on the last hit, you can keep running straight to the section with the goomba suit and get the red coin on the way back to the key door. I don’t have the game so I’m not sure, but I think that could save you a second or so.

You break the blocks near the door, then piranha creeper and then you hit your head more to the right to unlock the part straight to goomba, then its same and when you come back, you hit your head to get the pink coin
I haven't played it, but it seems like maybe you could save some time with the powblock, after you get the powblock and take the coin at the bottom you run up to bowblock the cluster of blocks, but if you hit it right you should be able to take away the 4 blocks that blocks your way from that spot to go down to the goomba. if you hit it perfectly then maybe go through that, down to get the goomba coin and take the Powblock coin before entering the keydoor as you have to run through that area anyways.. Hope that makes sense..

you waste time when you get the red coin from the pow block. you have to run past there when going to the key door anyways. It'll save you over a second

On your last pow couldn't you go right more and squeeze through on the left then get the coin on the far right of the course and hit that coin above where you did the last pow hit on your way back through?
You know... that is a good idea for a Mario item in these speed runs. Something like a minus 5s Mushroom. That would be something that creators could use to add more path choice.
So with speed-run forward momentum is key, it might be faster if you use the last POW a little more to the right to open the right passage, then heading to the Goomba head get the coin and as you run back to the door get the final coin. that might cut a second or two out. I can't test it since no switch nor game.

If you went just a little farther to the left with the pow block hat, you wouldn't need to take longer on the section next to the goomba hat. Then, when you get through the goomba hat section, you could grab the pink coin on your way to the door.
You should do a follow up Ninji runs after a few days. Between learning it yourself more and watching other youtubers
Isnt it possible to hit the pow block coin spot and directly go to the goomba bit and get the pow block coin last?

It looks like if you break open the path to the right on the forth coin, you can skip it and grab it on the way to the door back from the goomba section
Hey DGR, what if you used the third hit of the POW one block to the right? That’d let you keep running to the right, go right for the goomba, and then grab the fourth coin on your way back. You pass under that location normally.

I don't play but I watch. I definitely see a slightly faster route.
After the last POW, do not get the coin. Instead, head straight for the gumba. As you head for the door, pick up the last coin because it will be in your path anyway.
Could you go to the goomba section from undernearh using the propeller. Don't have mario maker myself to test it out and see how beneficial it is.
Fun level and just goes to show that the new stuff in this latest update are adding a lot to the game.
My thoughts on how you did this run: I'm thinking that if you used the third POW hit a bit later to open up the path on the right (so you don't lose momentum by backtracking), and skip that coin until after you do the goomba part, hitting the block on the way back. Normally I'm not much into speedrunning, but this run had me thinking on optimizations.

You could use the POW power one more block to the right pass through the new lower brick entrence and when you come back pick up the red coin, you probaly lose 1 sec doing that

Also, you could probably shave some frames at 16:42 if you jumped straight from the brown brick block into the POW hat into the ceiling instead of dropping down to the gray blocks.
I saw a local streamer friend taking the blue piranha coin through the PROPELLER HELLMET! Sick move, but effective in terms of lowering the PB.

This is the first ninji speedrun since I got the game! I'm so excited!
DGR when you grab the pow block helmet don’t use your first one at the door use your first at the Parana plant use the second under the red key use the third on the bricks below the red key and that should also destroy the bricks around the key door making it so you don’t have to stop to hit the brick right below the red key to grab it
I think Nintendo was actually focused more on doing this Major update than putting out Ninji Speedruns so they could give us more interesting levels with the Ninji Speedruns going forward.
A tip for DGR you should not get the bull it bill hat and fly to get the second coin with the propeller and long jump down the stairs when getting the goomba hat
