Thank you for your video. I’m considering a RunTru or XR14 so I would love to hear how it’s beed running for you now 3 years after your installation. Thank you so much for any information!
Thanks for making this video and answering fallow up questions I think we’re going to go with this unit for our lake house . The price difference is a good bit between other units so for a weekend house if I can spend less and get a reliable unit why not
Hey no problem, glad it helped even a little. When I made this video there was just like ZERO information out there about this offering from Trane. I went into it very blind, and thankfully its worked out. System is still running strong.
While a bit dry, this was a solid video and I appreciate you taking the time to make/post it. Great info! I'm having a RunTru system installed in my house as well and I wasn't very familiar w/ the brand but I feel better about it now. I too am curious about your savings but realize it would really take at least 6-12 months to get some quality data. I'm looking forward to a follow-up post on this. :)
Certainly won't argue about it being dry, I'm not a videographer for a reason lol. I will definitely do a 12 month follow-up. It's only been ~4 months, but its still running well ... no surprises. Power bills have averaged ~$100/month, and its been real hot down here. Again I will wait a year, but looking just at the data I have, it would appear to be about a 17% savings over the old Bryant system that was here compared to last year.
This is excellent. I'm looking to buy this exact model and my house is about 980 sq feet.. So, about same as yours. Would you mind answering a couple questions? If so, I'm interested whether the outside condensor is considered "quiet" (start up and running). The unit would be located directly outside my bedroom, so noise is an issue. Actually, should probably ask whether the air handler is quiet too. Thank you. I appreciate any comments!
This is a question I wish I could answer for you better, .... I wouldn't call it a whisper quiet system? I'm not sure what you're dealing with now, but I'm not sure how much quieter or louder it would be. Mine is way over on the unoccupied side of the house, but when I am on the back porch (screen porch) I can 100% hear it fire up around the corner of the house as the compressor starts. The fan noise itself I don't hear though.
@@GimpyMR2 Thank you for that. I'm starting to think that all single stage units are about the same noise level. I can't locate a whisper quiet unit. I could move to a two stage, but I don't want that level of complexity (and repair costs) for such a small space.. Thank you, though, for answering my question. I truly appreciate it!
Hi there, thank you for posting this video, I am planning on getting one installed soon in Miami, FL, so I am curious to know how it has worked for you until this date, 2 years after this video. Thank you in advanced.
Hey there, I really do need to post a follow up video eventually. The system has been totally reliable, zero issues. The only issue I DID have was a capacitor needed replaced on the compressor, but this was not the fault of the system. A lizard managed to get into that panel and arc'd its body across the connections. We've had two "heating seasons" up here in Central Florida now, and the heat pump has been great too. I would buy this unit again.
Hi - thank you for your video. I'm in the Naples - Ft. Myers area and very close to ordering this system as well. Was the cost of the capacitor covered under warranty completely (including labor)? The quote I have says 5 years parts and 2 years labor. The other "generic" I'm considering is Durastar (generic Ruud). Did that one come up in your research and, if so, any thoughts? Both Trane and Rheem/Ruud seem to have good reputations, but I lean towards Trane.
You saved yourself a LOT of future headaches by going with a basic system. I'm an HVAC Tech and did basically the same thing. Could've gotten the top-of-the-line Inverter-driven system AT COST without freight charges, but decided to go with a basic Air Handler (with electric heat) and a 16SEER condensing unit with only a contactor and capacitor - no boards, no reversing valve. Simple function, cheap and easy to replace. ...and as you stated, SUPPLY CHAIN. Didn't want to be waiting for board or entire inverter assembly to come on the next truck or have to pay for UPS Next Day while I sweated mid-summer - assuming the part isn't on backorder....just because you get a small power surge and end up without a functioning condensor or Air Handler. I've noticed that the 'efficiency curve' of the higher-SEER units has a directly inverse reliability curve. I would rather have something that uses just a little more electricity(which is cheap for me because I am a Member of an Electric CoOp) but is much less likely to have an expensive failure - one Out of Warranty board replacement is going to cost so much that it will totally negate ALL those pennies you saved with the Higher SEER unit over the years.
I'm really lucky to have "cheap" power in FL, and with weeks of 90F+ days the bills have been at or slightly below $100/mo for the house. I'm all for saving money, but it seems like a balancing act like you said of reliability vs. $10/month on the bill? And I mean, my house is built in '88 and has maybe ~R10 in the attic. Plan on dealing with that this winter when its cooler up there. I need to get my water heater on a timer, I'm pretty sure I could get the bill lower.
The guy who offered to install this for me said the warranty was 10 years parts, 10 years labor. Is he bluffing me? My other option is a Goodman single stage 14 seer. What has been your experience with your previous Goodman? Hope you see this. I need to make a decision within the next day or two. I currently have a 2018 Trane. Is that the XR? The condenser is shot, and contractors in general are gouging the price of fixing it or replacing the exterior unit entirely, trying to force me into buying a new system.
I'm still very happy with the unit, I have had no reliability concerns. The unit I have is essentially an XR14 in a different enclosure, so anything systemic would those would apply to these really.
I got mine installed in 2021 a 3.5 ton Run -tru and after 2 years the outside coil had a leak I contacted the installers luckily they replaced with no charge , and the unit has been running fine over all . IM in Houston Texas this HOt ass weather my light bill in the summer runs about $180 to 200..
So is this unit essentially Trane xr14 repackaged for contractors? Did you have a chance to compare coils, condensers, control boards? Other than appearance, are identical?
I have not exhaustively compared, but yes its essentially a XR14 in a cheaper case. Every P/N I did compared when I was bored is the same so far. Has been a great unit for the money, zero regrets.
Is this a single speed setup? I chose a single speed Runtru 14 seer on my old 1,600ish square foot house due to being all I can afford right now. Getting it installed tomorrow. I'm hesitant spending that much money and not getting variable speed but I couldn't justify an extra 1,200 on it up front.
@@GimpyMR2 that’s true. Mine is 1500 but I went with the single speed. I can’t afford anything more than that right now and I can’t go another year in this place without ac and having a six year old. It’s a small company with good word of mouth so I’m hoping it’s a very good install.
Hello sir. How's your system been treating you? I'm in Vegas, my AC died. Trying to decide RunTru or a Lennox Elite, which I can get for excellent price. 8k vs 10k. But RunTru has 5 year labor warranty. Lennox just 1. Any advice?
That labor warranty seems to be up to the company you purchase from. I have two quotes on RunTru - one is 1-year labor and the other is 2-year labor. Oddly on the parts, one quote says 10-year and the other says 5-year. Is the parts warranty from Trane?
How’s your system doing now two years later? Any issues? Anything you would change? I have a Goodman unit but want to replace it with another brand (I think).
How's the unit holding up, any regrets? I'm also in central florida, west side to be precise, and looking at getting one of these units installed. May I get the contractor info? Thanks
Unit has been great! Zero regrets on this decision. I actually need to do a follow-up with energy costs, but I have been amazed how cheap its been to run this 14 SEER unit. Heat pump was great the few cold days we had this year, given we had no functioning heat for a while before this. It just had its 1 year check-up, and everything was all good on refrigerant and cleaned the compressor coil. The people who installed mine are Durham & Sons, I don't think they service the West Coast though. They were reliable, on-time and respectful to my property and even went a little further on a few things I asked for.
@@851995STARGATE That wasn't presented as an option to me actually, and I didn't even think to ask when I bought it. That is a good idea though, especially how warm it is down here... it was money wasted putting in strips. My last system the strips hadn't even worked on anymore for years.
It’s code you have to put Supplemental or emergencystrips in as a back up heat in case the heat pump fails or temporary fails. North of Orlando we have to go with at least a 7.5 KW depending on tonnage and airflow. 10KW for larger units all the way towards North Carolina and above Virginia you’re going to need 15 KW at times depending on sizeOf house and Tonnage of the unit!👍
It's only been installed a few days, but so far running well. I don't think anyone will have long-term reviews for quite some time since Trane hasn't been selling RunTru very long. That said, the whole system is just a reboxed version of stuff they already made so like you can look for reliability and energy usage numbers for XR14 compressor and TEM4 air handlers. As far as energy usage, wont know for a couple months either.... but even with my old 2002 system I was only using ~$100/mo in power. I was more chasing reliability than saving energy at that point. Good luck with your install!
Have you noticed a difference in energy efficiency and cost to operate vs the old system? If so, aprox. how much have you saved roughly? (I'm located in Northern GA which can get fairly toasty similar to FL).
I just had the same brand unit installed , and i have to say the product is good but the installers sucked ass and i have a ton of leakage at the airhandler...
I'm sorry to hear that! Hopefully its air leakage that's easily fixed? I was really happy with the work my contractors did. Like I said in the video, most systems reliability and efficiency rest on the work the installation crew does. So hopefully no other issues for you.
I've seen the other day one of the new air handlers RunTru inside... promoted same as Trane. I cannot believe those products are allowed to pass inspection and to be sold to the consumers. The cleaning access to the evaporator is terrible, the whole cabinet is poor quality, the pan design where the water/condensation is poor. I have no idea where they get those engineers for designing such product and allowed them on the market. ALL AC units sold in usa, Trans Rheem Carrier Daikin Goodman you name it York are 80's technology! poor design! now days with lower quality materials!! sold at a price cost of almost all appliances in your house added together, fridge, stove, washer, dishwasher, dryer, microwave and a decent gaming PC. It is absurd. Government should not allow the AC mafia industry abuse the citizens with such low quality products. The coil can be pulled out for cleaning? Did you ever looked at cabinet when a technician needs to pull out the evaporator? It's a shame.
Thanks for this video. Having the same unit installed next Tuesday.
