- This isn't really a huge debate, but it has comes up sometimes in the nursing community, should you or should you not keep a LPN license if you are now a RN?? One would think that it's a clear NO, right? The answer can be yes and no depending on your nursing specialty, your experience and the work settings you are in.

Keep every license you have! They way this world is always have your credentials. You worked so hard for it 🙏🏾❤️💐
I’m keeping all of my licenses. I’m halfway through my RN program and I’m keeping my lpn. Shoot I wish I would have kept my CNA too😂
@@melaninmama2258 naphcare is a corrections agency and the other is Tampa based catered to black pts only
I’m a new RN and kept my LPN license. I’m so glad I did!
You worked hard for both of your licenses! Congratulations!
🎉 Congratulations 🎉
we need more videos from you sis, I graduate in may 2024, LPN
Hello, I advise you to contact Dr Luther if you are preparing for your nclex, be it RN or PN. He is the reason I and my husband are very happy today working as Rns
I’m def trying to keep every license I have, working too damn hard for them 😫
Brandi, you should be on an episode of @Nurse to Riches! I can see you being a great asset on their channel for nurses everywhere.
keep ALL licenses worked to get I agree.
I'm located in FL and I'm an LPN and I make more than my RN friends. I even do agency for the hospital and still make more than the RNs. I work on med Surg and I must say the RNs ask for help all the time. They run around w their heads cut off w 7 pts and that's a walk in the ball park for me when I'm use to 30+ pts at one time. As an LPN in FL u can work as a CNA and don't need your CNA license to do so. As well as RNs picking up LPN shifts. RNs trump everything so you don't need to hold onto your LPN or CNA to work as one. I know I'm always working as a CNA and I don't have a certificate. It would be a waste of money in FL if you're an RN and keep your other credentials
Do you do agency as a cna?
@@Ray.0.0 yes my Agency lets me work as a CNA w my LPN license
I like florida for this. It's like holding on to your high school diploma while having a Bachelor's. Makes no sense.
That’s great! I’m in FL. What’s the name of the agency?
But what about when you want to work in another state with your licenses. I wish Wisconsin was like that, where you only needed one license. I have to keep my LPN and CNA license in this state. I never understood it.
Hey!! On the one hand, I understand why some would keep their lpn license. I let mine go. Personally, I won't work for less than I feel I deserve now that I have my RN. But to mitigate the shortage of RN shifts at times, I work for more than one agency bc different companies have contracts with different facilities. I also pick up med surg shifts, psych shifts, etc and I'm even willing to drive an hour or so to get that higher pay. To each their own ❤.
They'll still hold you to the standard, and its no escape. You can work an LPN shift with RN,but RN can not be replaced by LPN
Right.
Yess I shame face as well Brandi I think it’s because I’ve made so many mistakes in my life and I’m striving to do better but now any little thing I do wrong I beat myself up for it. My therapist said the same thing you said, allow myself grace. We’re allowed to make mistakes❤
I am keeping all of my licenses including the therapy license!!!
Why people down grade LPN’s I’m in school for LPN and they got us doing IV’s before the couldn’t do that I know and LPN making more then an RN
Keep your LPN!
I’ve been feeling discouraged lately while taking classes to prepare for the teas exam and like you said if you didn’t have that mentality to have the confidence to move on you wouldn’t be where you are today so I need to be more confident and also I thank you for sharing this video.
Yes 30:10 not having the confidence that you can do it is the biggest problem
Since you will be held to your highest degree I let my LPN license go. I believe RN Renew on even years, and Wisconsin is a compact state! I moved from Wisconsin to Texas.
Yep! Currently in Wisconsin.
Keep it girl! Here in Ontario 🇨🇦 we have to renew our RN/RPN license EVERY year for $300-$400.
😱
Omg
In USA it varies but definitely not every year. Oh my! They must pay well
The first time I renewed because I was only an RN for a few months. This time around idk because I haven’t really used it because those LPN rates are so low I just rather stay in bed.
I agree. Just like during covid there were a lot of LPNs working under their CNA certification because CNAs were getting paid more during the pandemic than most LPNs because they needed more RNs at that time. I just let my CNA expire in IL. I'm currently an LPN. You just made me want to keep my CNA in other states just in case. Then once I'm an RN I'll let the CNA go.
Wait, what?! They will withhold renewing your license if you don't pay taxes? 😂
Typing from husband account . Keep both ! Seen an LPN has to switch to Medaid mid shift to to make MORE simply because the facility did not need a nurse on duty . The shift paid 1000 for 8 hours .
here in WA state CMT called Med techs which is an incorrect term we are certified medication aides/techs. Not recognized in Hospitals
Same in Maryland
Dang… so I could’ve kept my CNA license?
You should for sure keep it for $60!! In CA we pay upwards of $300 for the renewal plus CE units so I’m not 100% sure I’ll keep it once I get my RN in a couple of months. I also don’t know for sure if we can hold both in California….
Thank you for your video. I'm an lpn and about to sit for nclex but my position is great without the headache... so I'll ask my state if i can keep mine
Can you do a video on the best and worst nursing agencies to work for and which ones you recommend?
Hi I don’t know enough about different agencies. I know shift key, shift med, integrity and that’s about it. It also depends on your region too. I suggest getting into a travel or agency fb group for nurses and get advice there. You can also ask nurses that you know too. The biggest thing is knowing how and when you will get paid. Good luck.
@@yourfavnurseb9699 Thanks for responding, I live in Illinois and I too live across the river as well. I was just wondering because you're always working agency, which is awesome.
As an LPN in NY working for an agency, I am getting paid $45.00 per hour. At my staff full-time job, I am getting paid $36 an hour. I recently passed my nclex-rn last week and can't wait to make even more.
OMG that’s so exciting, that’s for sharing congrats on everything, do you plan on staying at your current jobs or going somewhere new?
@@yourfavnurseb9699 @yourfavnurseb9699 Thanks! I plan to move on to a new job. Just as you mentioned in your video, some jobs rather have an LPN (pay them less) and have them do RN work. I am currently facing this at my job. It seems as if they don't want me to move up although recently RNS has resigned. I will be looking for a job that appreciates my work and me going above and beyond.
In my state, you can’t keep both an LPN license as an RN. Once we receive RN , the LPN license is cancelled out.
I had a similar experience, but i have my CNA and LPN trying to figure out if I want to renew my CNA.
Same…but I need the CNA work hours to renew. I’ve never worked as a CNA. I need to figure something out.
@DimplesonDemand exactly I've got a fee more days to figure it out
Keep EVERYTHING!!!!
Keep both
I regret letting my CNA license go.
But a nurse can still work as a CNA because CNA isn’t an actual license, it’s a certification.
Thanks brandi
Thanks!
Thank you!
But how do you get rid of it ? I thought once you did the schooling for any license you get to keep it 😂 sorry im still all new to this
You have to renew your license every other year. If you don’t pay to renew it you can lose it
You are correct! It’s yours. You pay to keep it current
I would keep both
Damn so I can’t do per diem under my RN??? No clipboard, ShiftMed, etc. Wtf 😢 how is that even fair ? This was a major goal, work per diem while I leverage my residency
Why can’t you work as a RN?
Why?
keep both
I’m NY, they hold you to the highest level of degree. So it can be held against you
Same in most states
