I don't get how anyone can not know who Jay Chou is. I'm a white American, I can't speak Mandarin, and I've been one of his biggest fans since 2004. He's like the Beatles of Taiwan and pretty much every Mandarin speaking country. Not only that but he composes all of the music he sings, plays piano, has a unique style where he mixes classical music with rap. Yes he's 40 years old but his style is so unique that he can't really be replaced by anyone younger. And he's not the typical pop star, he's a musician, so he's not know for his looks. You don't have to be young to keep making brilliant music. I hope he keeps making albums until he's 60.

Of course there are some new talented Taiwanese Artist as well but for now not much people paying attention to Taiwan's entertainment industry. I think that's the whole reason.
