Evil Offering: Long Term Live Ride Review

  • Evil's mountain bikes have a cult following for their incredible Delta Link suspension and uniquely involving, mischievous ride dynamics. Older bikes had a reputation for loosening pivots and linkages though so when they sent me their mid travel Offering last November, I figured we'd best ride it as much as possible. So just how well did Patreon Investor Ryan and I get on with the 'Resident Evil' over a full 12 months of flat out trail rallying.
    Thanks to Giro Cycling UK, Peaty’s Products, Silverfish UK and Crud XL Fenders for sponsoring the channel, Evil Europe for sending the bike in for test and to my Patreon supporters for their monthly pledges. Any questions get busy in the comments.
    Cheers
    Guy

    Has nobody spotted the obvious mistake where I said slacker rather than steeper compared to other bikes 🤦‍♂

    how does this compare to the Santa Cruz Hightower 3? Which pedals better and which goes downhill better? Current bike is a yeti sb130LR

    Kudos for probably the first bike test to include the word sepulchral. and aptly too.
    A word I learnt from reading the wonderful Gormenghast trilogy.

      Haha, I forgot I said it till I started editing. The insta clip I shot is amazing as I'm riding just on the top edge of the cloud inversion. Proper Stranger Things vibes!

    I love the chainline on this bike. The climbing is so easy due to the chainring more in line with the lower gears

    Great review! We have the exact bike from the video in store as a demo. if anyone would like to see if they can ride it like Guy!

    You say there's a ton of pivots in the linkage Guy, but there's exactly the same as any horst link or four bar rear end. Count 'em! Because they are all close together it looks like more. I got three UK winters out of my Followings bearings with a little bit of care.

      That's great to hear. As I said to Simon above, look after them OK and they last really well.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes sorry Simon, I worded it badly. People see it and think - woah that's a lot of bolts - and some people jetwash them to death. That's why I wanted to put a full year into it to show the Delta Link set up is absolutely fine as long as you treat it right. Keen to do the same with the new Yeti SB120 to see how their 'new much more durable' Switch Infinity holds up.

    I’m still on the original bearings on my 2017 Evil, only ridden 1-2 times a week though.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      'Only' 1 or 2 times a week for 5 years is a LOT of riding. Thanks for the feedback Paul 👍

    Fair to say you think this pedals better than the regular stumpjumper carbon?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Similar feel in some ways (like the visible shock movement and slight sag at start of pedal stroke rather than lift) but much stiffer frame and better power transfer.

    how does the paint hold up on the evil when not wrapped?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Surprisingly well. I'd still wrap it just in case if you've got the option but there wasn't any flaking or dings, just some dull patches where it had been scrubbed a lot with cleaning and on the rear stays where muddy trouser legs had rubbed during winter

    Great review. Any 27.5 bikes in the lineup?

    • @GuyKesTV

      @@GuyKesTV Sorry, I meant do you have any 27.5 bikes lined up for a review? Thanks!

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gbrox17 sorry for confusion. I have the Santa Cruz 5010 with 27.5 rear wheel and 29 front but also some cheap Jamis bikes with full 27.5 wheels. Is there any specific bike you’d like to see tested?

    • @gbrox17
      @gbrox17 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GuyKesTV Oh the 5010 mix wheel sounds great! I was just looking at that bike and noticed an aluminum version might come out, which is appealing. I don't have a specific bike in mind. I'm just curious to listen to one of your excellent ride reviews on a 27.5. Cheers!

    Where are you riding?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Stainburn in Yorkshire. Not much flow until you get a few runs in but great trails for testing and incredible cloud inversion and freezing fog made it look very 'Evil'
