OMG! After 2 years of your posting, TH-cam actually recommended this video! I got so emotional looking at the photos. I grew up in that area (also known as 5th and 6th mile). Brought back so much memories. Especially those with my mum going marketing together. I went to a nearby primary school. There was a polyclinic at the corner of the road. A very nice nasi briyani stall at the coffee shop. A popular temple(九王爷)that celebrates certain festival with food and staged show. Those were highlights in my childhood. No shopping centres, smart phones, TH-cam. Thank you for the precious photos!
Brings back a lot of memories from the 70s and 80s. Live in Kovan area all my life, still staying in the same house that I was born. Forever 'Au Kang Lang'!
👍👍👍in the 70s I stayed at my Brother in law place, kampong opposite the 仙宮 cinemas during my school holidays .. It was a totally new world now... we had so much to be missed... Love you my childhood Hougang..
Very nostalgic. I was born in 1970 and have fond memories of Upper Serangoon Road from the 4th mile where I lived, to 6th mile and all the way to Punggol end. Some familiar faces in the photos of Lim Tua Tow old market 😢
I stay next to the market. Have seen some of my parent's friends in the picture. Even the Nissan sunny parked along the market number 1944 is belong to my father's friend...I was only sec 2 that time...now haizz..toward retirement..sunset time..my tears dropping..
Times has passed so fast!! Fond memories of playing with friends after school in green uniform and loitering aroung the bus interchange! Hahaha...Guess which school was that? Although some of the buildings are still around but alot of our pioneers may had already left this world! Just like the theme song, it was indeed the Last Applause of Hougang!! and the legend still stands today.....! 🧑👍
I used to go to the market to select and buy live stocks and the seafood with my mother. After that we will proceed to eat wanton noodle at the food centre next at the next section or tabao chwee kuehs home for breakfast. Oh, not to forget to collect our chicken after they had slaughtered on the spot.
Thanks for the precious photos of Old Hougang, this is something the Gahmen won't be doing, not this Gahmen at least... If they have their way, they would rename the place to some new names, like Backvale or some c2pid pseudo American sounding names.
I grew up in this area from 1971 to 1976. Thank you for uploading these precious photos and bringing back beautiful memories. By the way, does anyone remember天天书店 (Daily Bookstore)? Is it still there? If not, when did it close?
I did not stay in this area but my mom taught in school further up the road and I pass thru the area like everyday for a couple of years during my childhood during the 70's. I actually remember a lot of the locations in the video. Is there suppose to be a part2? I am left wanting for more. :P
Thank you so much for the sweet memories. I stay at 6th mile. I study in SSS at lowland Road. Everyday I have to walk pass Daily Book Store,

I lived at Richard Avenue before moving to Simon Road, behind the market.

Thanks for posting. Such a beautiful place.
Nice video and matching music.
thanks for sharing
后港五条石的光华戏院,星光戏院,还有 Yio Chu Kang 和 Upper Serangoon 交接处的路边巴殺都充满了我童年的回忆
