I don’t understand how they can certify a record based on a story of something killed that long ago. How do they know it wasn’t killed on a deer farm or something?
I seen one close to that in elk county one mile from mcean county line on rocky run road off 219 in PA in 2006 they crossed the road in front of our car so me and my dad parked the car and got out and we were in the woods about 1000 feet off the road obe an 8 without brow tines wich i shot and the other one i swear to god was a 14 point it was massive i almost broke the window with my barrel i was freaking out
What i dont understand about this buck is the lack of evidence it was actually killed by the first man known to have it and lack of evidence it was actually killed in PA. This guy had it in a barn this guy bought it this guy bought it this guy bought it... and it might have came from the midwest or even Ohio before it spent 40yrs in a barn. Just dont see enough proof and evidence to dethrone the previous record holder in PA. Its all hear say without state documentation from when it was killed. None the less, its a awesome buck.
Totally agree! Imo a buck shouldn’t be able to be entered into the books unless it’s been killed within 2 years of entry. It’s just fishy to me all of these old bucks coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden
Don’t venture to Montgomery county if you don’t believe it, monster typicals still venturing private and state/county land no matter how developed it gets. Love the doubters on PA deer mass
Lifelong resident of PA, full time taxidermist. Surely the wife and family could have confirmed the deer was taken in PA.,..not to mention have you guys seen any of the bucks that come from Montgomery, Chester and Bucks counties…? Totally legitimate in my opinion. Doubtful the old farmer was traveling West in 1962 to shoot a deer.
This story may or may not be bogus. But since the antler restrictions PA is showing big bucks year after year. What I think people should remember is PA has more hunters than almost any state and while we have plenty of public land small agricultural is disappearing year after year. We’ll never be Iowa our numbers of hunters is 75% of Iowas entire population. Maybe bogus but I’d like to think it’s real gives you that childhood like hope.
Dude almost said Kansas. That looks like a Kansas gene buck. Let's do a mineral test on the rack. It will let us know what and where it's been eating based on soil samples from counties. Known poacher in wisconsin got caught with these type of test. And that was in the 90s
I understand the questions surrounding the story and maybe it is bogus. But cam you honestly say your qualified to say “a Kansas gene buck”. Jesus Tap Dancing Christ….
There's a buck in my area that got shot under a spot light this year. I heard The game commission scored the rack at 176 inches. I never seen a buck that big in my area before. Funny thing is There's one big than that in the same area. They hide in the prison land that people can't hunt
Great story. It sounds like pa was overwhelmed to claim this as ours though. The jordan buck for example took years of hand written letters and people vouching for jordan to get the buck recognized as his. He was alive. This thing passed through owner after owner and people knowing about it and know one recognized its potential? The whole thing seems strange.
I thought so too, until I read some articles about it. Apparently the family has pictures and he was a well known hunter for the time in PA. All that being said I’m still iffy about it. It’s nice to think there’s monsters out there running around in my home state
Pennsylvania is not east coast maybe the eastern half but where I live in western Pennsylvania Pittsburgh region and its considered midwest lots of farmlands and wood lots
I live in the area this buck was killed. The deer spent his life on state penitentiary property. Back in the 60's this area was fairly rural with plenty of farmland and like I said state penitentiary property that was off limits to all hunters. The potential was definitely there and with proper genes a buck like this was definitely possible. You also have to consider there was no horn porn back then. People weren't obsessed with antlers like today's hunters are. I totally believe this is legitimate until someone PROVES otherwise. What a magnificent creature.
I find this very interesting because my dad shot a buck that looks oddly similar to this buck with similar tines and less points but has the same hook on the g1 and has that crazy length on the right side possibly this buck could be the disendit of the one my father killed
@@Billy-rq9hs Yes. Reporting harvested game was a thing in the 1960s. If it was legally harvested in PA, the correct year and date could have been tracked.
@@bennyJ4856 I understand that, but the guy is dead. Who TF are they supposed to fine? I get that it could add some proof, but things were a lot different then. I send my tags in I agree with it but again it was the 60s.
Feel like it’s not accurate to call it an “East Coast” buck considering PA doesn’t even have a coastline on the Atlantic. If we’re gonna call it “East Coast” let’s be real here. Nevertheless it’s a beautiful buck
I live 10min from where this buck was killed. I will hopefully shoot a 180inch 8pt this year. He is 6.5yrs old n I have his shed from this pass year. It's the smaller side n measures 72inches. The buck spread is 25-27 inches n his other side I estimate near 82inches
I always did.. I’m a Michigan guy too.. plus Mitch can flat out hunt, he knows deer like nobody I’ve ever heard speak about them.. it’s not THAT hard to believe a buck like that (and several others with the same characteristics) came out of that swamp he was hunting, which is near traverse city
@@kylemurray7086 Thats awesome to hear! I think the bull surrounding it and milo(being the bum he is) threatening a law suit got to him...and imagine what it would take to do surgery like that in the field that’s good enough to fool credible people who had laid hands on the deer. I hope one day, if he is alive, something concrete comes out. Hope you cross paths with the buck of a lifetime this season.
This one might be my new favorite buck
As a Montgomery county native people around here have known about this deer for years, glad it’s finally getting some well deserved publicity!
Amazing buck. But how do they know it was shot in PA? Could this gentleman have potentially shot it out west somewhere?
I don’t understand how they can certify a record based on a story of something killed that long ago. How do they know it wasn’t killed on a deer farm or something?
Screw deductions. If he grew it , it should count. Period.
there's monsters in pa you half to climb the mountains there's buck that never had human contact before.
Or go through deep swamp.
I've killed some dandy bucks in my 25+ years in the whitetail woods. If I ever get a crack at a deer of that caliber, I'd cry like a baby.
It could of been off a deer farm for all we know.
Kinda lost me when you said The General (aka, The Nebraska Giant) was discovered in Missouri...

Port Royal is in Juniata County, PA. The Perry County fair grounds are in Newport, PA.
What about 'Rackzilla' from PA?

No tag, No report card , others hunters would of been fined if found out truely from PA.

Have you put your hands on the Barry Kern Jr archery buck? That's another mega frame typical from Pa.

PA tourist campaign, more than likely
An absolutely incredible buck! It was amazing to see in person!!!!
This guy makes me sick. Saying pa. Don't have big bucks like that. I know some places in pa. That the deer have never scene a human.
Ok they have never seen a human what's that supposed mean and sorry but there ain't no deer in pa that hasn't seen a human
PA definitely has a lot of remote places, but PA see plenty of people no matter where. Be real. JFC.

Net is for fish🙄
This rack proves the double standard in PA. Other hunters have been FINED for having an untagged unreported rack.
They only care when there is someone to fine and make money. In this case the game commission only cares about showing it off.
