- The best CINQUE TERRE Travel Guide for 2019: Visit Monterosso, Manarola, Riomaggiore, Vernazza & Corniglia. We did all five villages in 48 hours and each village offers a different experience. Please share your experience and tips below for other to read. Our top tips for your visit:
1. VALIDATE YOUR TRAIN TICKET: If you don't validate your ticket in the green machines then you risk being fined €50 (which we did - gutted).
2. CARRY CASH: Many places are cash only, so don't forget to carry some with you.
3. PREPARE FOR STAIRS: We were surprised by the amount of stairs and uphill climbs there were. For those with mobility issues I would recommend Monterosso and Vernazza.
4. HIKING MUST KNOWS: Planning to hike? There are lots of hikes in the Cinque Terre national park, you will have to pay to walk some of the routes (but if you bought a day train ticket then it's included). The terrain does require hiking boots and be sure to take plenty of water and sunscreen. Also the coastal walk through all five towns is no longer fully accessible. Due to a landslide you can only do a few of the routes, we did Corniglia to Vernazza and then to Monterosso.
5. NO DRONE ZONE: Drones are now banned in Cinque Terre and the villagers will approach you if you attempt to fly one.

Anna's Big Adventure Hello , planning to stay one night in cinque terra where do your recommend to stay ? Is it easy to visit more than one island in a day ?
Just a different tip- You can travel by car to any of them. There are roads. They just don’t encourage it as it’s a lot for the infrastructure. Riomaggiore is my home away from home. :) There’s also a free beach in Monterosso but the water quality isn’t the best. It’s fine to relax though. Price for the chairs and what else you get is worth it.
G is silent in Corniglia. ;) You can take a shuttle up to it. You don’t have to walk the stairs. The shuttle stop is right outside of the train station. Vernazza crowds are insane during the day. Amazing early and in evening. Back street are great at any time. Corniglia is the middle of the CT and only one not on the sea, manarola and Rio are the best for sunsets. @cinqueterreinsider is a great resource for Cinque Terre.

just to put it into perspective, they are not cities!!They are 5 small fishing villages and are legally preserved for their natural heritage and culture as UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE sites.

Hi! I'm from La Spezia, near Cinque Terre. I really hate to pay to stay to the beach... In Monterosso, there's a beach called "Spiaggia del Gigante" where You don't Need to pay, not all the beaches are payament! :)

If you are a strong walker, you could visit all those places completely on foot.
Maybe this is one of the reasons why Italians look so slim to foreign tourists. ^_^
Not all the beaches have paid admission fee, but most of them have it.

Io ho cominciato ad andare a Riomaggiore in estate in vacanza quando avevo soli 4 anni insieme alla mia cara famiglia. Siamo andati per tanti anni a trascorrere lì le vacanze estive, posso dire che le 5 terre sono stupende. Sono 5 piccoli paesini molto caratteristici e originali, rilassanti, favolosi. Io personalmente ci penso spesso, a Riomaggiore ho lasciato una parte di me... un pezzo del mio cuore... non dimenticherò mai le bellissime giornate estive trascorse là con la mia cara famiglia. Quindi consiglio a tutti vivamente di andare alle 5 terre, sono posti meravigliosi

We were gutted about not getting a drone shot, but I understand why the locals wouldn't want drones.
This was SOOO helpful. I'm going to Italy in a month and will be travelling through Cinque Terre.
As italian, i think there are better place to choose for your vacation. Cinque terre are expensive and there are TOO MANY tourist to enjoy (expecially in summer!).
Listen to me, avoid the region Liguria. If you want any advice, put a like on this ( I have a problem with notification, I can't see if you answer)

There are streets and cars to get there but it s quite complicated so taking a ferry or a train is the most convenient way :)
If I travel by car, where do I find a safe place to park and take the train to Cinque Terre ?How much are the fees for parking?
@@andrei.s7171 you can park your car on parking lot/places at the entrance of each village..fees are around 2eur per hour or around 15eur per day

If you'll ever come back to Italy, if you wanna less crowded places, maybe head to some central regions of Italy.
Lots of steps and rises there!
Or maybe you could visit Bergamo and its wonderful Città Alta (= High City) and then visit all the mountains around it. Very easy to be reached.
Nice places, most of them perfect for families and little children, lots of mountain trails and cycle paths for all tastes and lots of mountain chalets, not too many people and tourists and exquisite food.
Bergoma kinda ugly outside of the old centre tho
Hella Anna, my wife and I visited the 5 lands this year in Easter, It was amazing, we did it in the best way: we arrived at La Spezia railstation very early at 7:30 am, that time there were very few people there, We could enjoy the five beatifull villages in peace without straggling with a lot of tourists, I can tell you that at midday it became very crowded, It was very difficult do move and we had to come back to La Spezia railstation, the train was very crowded, and also we had to queue for long time, But at the end it was worth it. It was very sad the the Via dell amore ( it s a path that cross all the villages) But it was closed for security reason, because a couple of years ago, there were heavy downpoor that made the hills collapse, In the last 20 years this strip has been becoming very popular for tourists, I recommend that people visit this land, many thanks for all usefull video massimo from Italy

Thank you I am researching for my trip this June. I was going to stay in Corniglia but I don't want to carry cases up those steps (even small ones) After watching I think I may stay in Manarola. We are ok walking up stairs but not with luggage :)

Hi there Gabriela, you can definitely do this with your young family, i would recommend child carriers instead of prams. Maybe a super lightweight travel plan for your little one. We drove to a town just south of Cinque Terre called La Spezia and took the train from there. Make sure that you validate your train ticket before you get on the train. There are these yellow machines on the walls for doing this but it’s not obvious that you have to do it. They charge you a lot of money if you don’t do it. I hope you have an amazing holiday. :)

We flew to Milan and drove down to La Spezia. That was our base to visit Cinque Terre

we did manarola-corniglia by foot (about 2,5 hours through the "vineyards" - i've never been so glad to reach civilization again (and a resting chair) :-) but it's fully worth it ! but i warn you.. it was april, and already loads of other people doing the same track (sometimes very narrow paths) , so i dont wanna know, what it looks like in july or august ! ;-)

Too many tourist in august. We (italians) don't go in 5T in summer.. you should go in monte argentario or monte conero for nice sea, NOT in Liguria

I would be happy to coach you on how to pronounce the Italian names (toponyms, foods etc.) correctly next time, if you wish ;-) For instance, "bruschetta" is pronounced with a |sk| sound (not |sh|), which is always the case for a word containing the 'SCH' group (unlike English, Italian is quite predictable when it comes to pronunciation rules).

I think staying out in La spezia would be easier for getting your luggage in and out of the hotel. That is what I would do if I went back with baby now at 6 months old. Hope you have a wonderful time.

I avoided most cheeses, shellfish and they have an issue with pregnant women eating raw salad / vegetables in Italy so perhaps be cautious there too (it’s to do with the soil). Oh and the Parma ham and other cured meats. Enjoy the pasta and the bread. Have an amazing time and best of luck with the little one x

Can't bethat bad if a 20 minute massage only cost them 10€ airbnb for around la Spezia is around 100 or less per night for 2 people in August. Not bad. Been looking myself, it's why I'm here. :)

I think that the amount of tourists flying drones was causing a lot of disturbance (noise) and becoming hazardous. So it was banned.

there is a time and place for drones, they are noisy,disruptive to those around, they are invasive, I attempt to enjoy the moment at hand! Every moment and place doesn't need to be documented

Yes if you are happy to do it in a hurry. If you want to enjoy it and take your time then three or four days would be better

It’s complete the opposite. Many Italians speak very good English. Those who don’t speak English tend to be much older.
Mostly it depends on the age, imho as italian.
Older Italians in general understand and speak French, German or Spanish.
Younger italians in general understand and speak a quite good English.
After all, there are apps today! ^_^
@@AnnasBigAdventure it CAN be a bit of a problem ! in our hotel (in deiva marina), we couldnt really find anybody that speaks another language than italian - and i speak fluently english, french and german ! that's why i started to learn italian as well ;-) (besides, its a wonderful language)

@7:10 U say you dont like crowds and your bf says you dont like people and then you say you're put off by the crowds... yeah I don't recommend you stating that on a travel video. You can state that it gets crowded and that it may not be for everyone but don't throw out your disdain for them. You are the same as any tourist there and you yourself add to that crowd. If you don't like crowds then dont travel to a popular travel destination. This video started out cool but now Im put off.

This is stunning! I have videos on my channel about the great coast of Orange County California. I think this is the modern equivalent of Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast.
The Cinque Terre were villages of fishermen and farmers, wild lands where people were doing well. They were poor and happy living on the fruits of the sea and nature. Only the Ligurians knew them, going to the beach on summer. Globalization and mass tourism are ruining everything. Where did all this start from?
Cinque Terre is only beautiful for photography purpose. People are nice! I prefer many other places in Italy. I gave 3 stars for Cinque Terre.
