Great video. Could you also just add your computer directly to the switch (vs router) and still see the camera? Also, is your computer setup to automatically access "both" VLANs?

Only if they're on the same vlan , so if pc is plugged into port 7 the uplink to the router remains as 8. Port 7 would need to Be on vlan 2 same as port 1

Hi. Thanks for the video. I recently found out about VLANs. I bought a managed switch and have cameras setup currently going through this (it was previously unmanaged). I would like to ensure that nobody can unplug my external cameras and simply connect a laptop to the network cable going into that camera (in my garden); enabling them access to my full network. If I change my cameras and router connection on that managed switch to run on VLAN 2, for example, would that stop someone accessing my network as per the above example?

      Yes

@@SmartDevicesChannelHi. In your example, a malicious user could unplug your camera (lets say its 25 meters away outside) and plug in their device in its place and then see your laptop on the network because they're on the same VLAN? How can that issue be stopped? i.e., the camera still needs access to the internet via the switch, but if internet access is assigned to the switch (via the same VLAN as the laptop or all ports) could the malicious user just scan your network via the camera connection and see all your connected devices that way?

Since you connected computer to switch (port 8) to use the 6 remaining ports on the switch are they all gonna have to be on vlan 2?... or are you just trying to dedicate the switch for future camera use? . Why not just leave it all on vlan 1

Because the idea of the video is to teach how to use VLANs. You can have port 1 to 4 in the VLAN 1 and port 5 to 8 in VLAN 2 for example so it's like having two separated swiches. Got it?

    Hi Smart Devices,
Maybe you can assist me as I followed your youtube and I cannot understand why, the exact same model, switch is not working correctly. I have it powered, and connected to my router and the tool is not finding the device. I went to my router settings and see the device is sitting under offline devices.

I have separated my Reolink poe cameras in dedicated VLan but I can not stream those cameras in the Reolink app. Any advice?

Hey you should be port #8 Tagged you did Untagged that means port #1 and port #2 became connected thru port # 8 unless you changed port # 8 Tagged
