Amanda!! AMANDA! OH MY GOD!!! This is literally LIFE-CHANGING! I have struggled with inconsistent width in my strokes since day one. I have watched countless videos about angle and pressure and even grip. Nobody has explained what you did in this video. This is absolutely BRILLIANT. Thank you SO much.
I am writing this comment after proper practice, so this is true experience. Yes, this grip does miracle! My lettering got so much better and consistent Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful tip😄
Thanks for this video, Amanda! I needed this reminder to make sure I am holding my pen correctly. I think it will help in some of the issues I have been having with my flourishes, for one thing. You’re the best! Love your videos so much!
Amazing!! This hand-completely-to-the-side technique fixes MANY problems! It also fixes the shape of my transitions, where unwanted thickness used to continue thru the bottom of the curves moving from a thick downstroke to a thin upstroke (like at the very end of the 2nd stroke of an "a", etc). Thank youuuu!
Thank u so much for this tutorial! I absolutely love your videos they are so helpful!!! Could u do a tutorial for people after the beginner stage? Or a more advanced tutorial?
Oh my!!! The difference this made! I’m so excited! I was is another room had to go to my craft room bc I knew that I only had my grip partially correct & my down at rocks weren’t consistent bc I would adjust my hand position as I went. I wish I had discovered your channel & online course before I had invested in another beginners course.
Wow! This was really helpful. I’ve seen many videos recommending to release the tension in your grip but none of them explained how to do it! I’ve been struggling with trying to release the death drip I have on my pens lol Thanks, going to try this out later.
I’m not Amanda, but I can definitely answer your question here- Cursive is meant to create letters and words in one continuous stroke. You don’t lift your pen nearly as often as you do in calligraphy. Cursive is meant to be quick, and flowing from one letter into the next. You CAN alter your pressure as you go, but it becomes messier than it would be if you constructed your letters one step at a time. Calligraphy, not only uses differences in pressure, it creates its letters and words using several basic strokes to construct your letters. You lift your pen off the page FAR more often in order to maintain consistency in your letters. Hope this helps!!
I've always held my pen like this. 😂😂 my dad actually had me write lines when I was kid to try to correct it. Well little did he know....now I gave a leg up 😂😂
try to keep your paper at an angle and hold your pen not so close to The nib! oh, and write slowly so your ink has time to dry. you can also keep a piece of paper between your hand and The paper youre witing in, it avoid smudges most times.
